Polk's powerhouse sound
Building incredible-sounding speakers at reasonable prices has made Polk Audio a powerhouse in the audio industry. The next generation, updated version of R Series loudspeakers are perfect for building starter systems, or for small room or multi-room applications. With the addition of a PSW Series powered subwoofer, a R150 speaker pair lets you assemble an impressive home theater system on a budget. Use them as surrounds in a den or bedroom system. Wall mount them in your workshop or basement rumpus room for industrial strength durability and great sound.
Dynamic Balance® all around
The drivers and tweeters used in Polk's R150 speaker pair feature Dynamic Balance. What's this mean? Just as an x-ray enables a physician to discover the root cause of a symptom and effect the right treatment for a cure, laser imaging allowed Polk engineers to find the right combinations of materials, geometry, and construction techniques to tune out the offending resonance. Polk calls this technology Dynamic Balance. Dynamic Balance technology produces flat frequency response, sharp detail, transparency, and an ability to play program material with wide dynamic range at life-like volume levels without a hint of strain. Clean, clear, effortless sound results.
Anti-diffraction grilles
It's now time to talk to you about a special cause known as anti-diffraction. We here at Vann's are really concerned about distortion. And no not distortion in the media, but distortion OF your media. You know, your home-theater audio experience? Diffraction is a type of distortion that occurs when sound reflects off an object such as a grille frame. The re-radiated sounds smear the original sound, much like ghost images on a TV smear the picture. Except instead of a ghost image, you get boxy-sounding audio. Well, James Polk wasn't president for nothing: let's just say he worked long and hard to pass the first "anti-diffraction grille" (rhymes with bill), so that audio can be free from the boxiness because you have the right to great audio! Polk's anti-diffraction grilles "Floating Grilles" lift the grilles literally off the baffle area, minimizing grille-edge reflections for clearer sound and more open imaging. (Bet you didn't know President Polk was such an audiophile back in the 1800s, did you.)
Magnetic video shielding protects your TV
In the past it wasn't possible to place speakers close to your TV due to possible damage from the magnetic fields inside the speaker. This limited speaker placement options, which has become more critical with today's smaller rooms and home theater applications. "Video shielded" means that these speakers can be placed in close proximity to your television without disrupting the picture or causing permanent damage.

Im using these as the rear surround speakers for my system. I reviewed many different brands and Polk came out on top always. I deceided to go with the Polk R150 and Im very satisfied with the quality of sound. I was confident they would produce what I was looking for . You just cant go wrong with Polk Audio, especially for the price. I also have the Polk CS10 center channel speaker which I also give an A plus. Yes you can do better if you want to spend a ton of money. My opinion....Polk speakers are quality speakers at a bargain price.

I needed to replace a worn-out low-end Teac 5CD deck in my office. This unit served me well for years, and dated to the pre-DVD days. I had it playing into a good set of powered computer speakers, and it worked okay that way. It is, after all, an office within an office building, and I cant really turn up the volume very loud.
So off to the Internet I went. If youve shopped for a plain old carousel CD player recently, you know that if you can even find one in the big-box stores, you dont get any choices. Vanns was among the many choices I found on Google. Could it be THE Vanns Appliance in Missoula? Sure enough. When I lived in Missoula in the 70s, Id bought TVs, WD, DW, and vacuum cleaner. It was THE place to buy appliances.
I logged onto Vanns and found not only a jazzy website, but lots of products with good prices, plus no sales tax and no shipping charges! They just kill us here in Washington State, with almost 10 sales tax! I wasted no time in picking out what I wanted and having it shipped to my office in Seattle. It was delivered, set up, and playing IN LESS THAN 48 HOURS!
So what did I buy? A lovely Sony CE375 5CD carousel deck. Nothing particularly pricey, but it has all the functions I needed with a very functional remote control. Im not a shuffler or a randomizer, so I dont use those features. I paired it with a Sony stereo receiver DH-100, also not pricey, and a pair of Polk R150 bookshelf speakers which happened to be on sale.
If youve shopped for a plain old stereo 2 channel receiver, youll know you cant find one of those in the stores either. Vanns had several choices, and the Sony DH-100 was perfect for my budget, and for my office environment. So far it greatly exceeds my expectations.
The Polk Audio R150 bookshelf speakers again not pricey sound exceptionally good for the size, and are perfect for the office.
Bear in mind I cant really push any volume limits for any extended length of time because Im in an office building, but this set up sounds dang good, playing my extensive collection of mostly classical CDs, and it definitely will crank up if I feel the urge. Everyday I sit here with great music washing over me, and Im really, really spoiled. Thanks, Vanns!
