What You Don't See--But You Do Hear |
The flagship model of Mirage's OM Design series, the OMD28, features dual 8" multi layer woven carbon fiber woofers, one 5.25" multi-layer carbon fiber/fiberglass hybrid midrange with underhung driver system and a new chambered 1.1" titanium dome tweeter. Two downward firing ports utilizes the space between the bottom of the cabinet and the stylish high gloss base as a loading surface to further enhance low-end performance. This ingenious design allows the OMD28 to reproduce incredibly low frequencies at stunningly high volume levels without sacrificing dynamics. With a frequency response of 25 Hz - 20 kHz +/- 3db and a usable low frequency response of 18 Hz (-10 dB anechoic), the OMD28s are sure to fill even the largest rooms with incredible bass. High power handling and the ability to tri-wire/tri-amp complete this impressive speaker system. |
Ribbed Elliptical Surround |
The OMD28 uses state of the art drivers which feature the latest in engineering and high-tech materials. All drivers and components used for the OMD28 have been specifically designed for this particular model and are custom made to guarantee superior performance. The woofer and midrange cones utilize woven carbon fiber and are mated to Mirage's patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology. The Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology was developed to guarantee linear inward and outward travel of the woofer, increased cone area and increased excursion. This technology, when applied to the new OM Design woofers and midrange drivers, allows the OM Design series to reproduce a level of sonic detail and accuracy unlike anything ever experienced. These revolutionary drivers are housed in exquisite, heavily braced, curved MDF cabinets. |
How We Hear What We Hear When We Hear The Things We Hear |
Research proves that in a live musical environment, approximately 30 percent of what we hear is direct sound while 70 percent is reflected from walls, ceilings, and floors and only reaches our ears a few milliseconds after the direct sound. The human brain uses direct sound for identification and to calculate location, but uses reflected sound to determine musicality and spaciousness, as well as direction. If this reflected sound arrives at our ears with inadequate high frequency content, then the reproduced music is identified by the brain as artificial. A speaker capable of recreating the correct direct-to-reflected ratio would therefore reproduce sound with far greater realism and faithfulness to the original instrument and environment. Guess what: that's exactly what the OMD28 floorstander delivers, using Mirage's newly-refined OMNIPOLAR technology. The effect OMNIPOLAR speakers have in a home theater system is markedly unlike traditional forward-radiating speakers. OMNIPOLAR speakers have incorporated the latest acoustical research and use walls, ceilings, and other surface areas in the room to reflect sound towards the listener. With more reflected sound than direct sound reaching the listener, a tremendously large soundstage is created that makes the listener believe the sound is virtually coming from beyond the walls. Mirage's innovative technology creates the most realistic sound you could ever imagine. With OMNIPOLAR technology, you no longer have a small "sweet spot" in which to enjoy your speakers. With Mirage, the entire room is a sweet spot. |
25 Years Of Making Waves |
For 30 years, Mirage has researched the ways humans perceive, capture and comprehend sound. Critics raved as Mirage, led by acclaimed audio engineer Ian Paisley and his protege Andrew Welker, delivered both trendsetting design and award-winning products. Among these was the world's first bipolar speaker, the M-1, which revolutionized the industry in 1987 by dramatically increasing sound dispersion, turning flat recordings into full-bodied, near-realistic performances. Mirage now launches a speaker so advanced, the world of sound as you know it will be completely shattered. The OMD series refines Mirage's unique, patent-pending Omnipolar technology to radiate sound in a full 360 degree spherical spectrum, enveloping you in a musical heaven like you have never experienced before. Pioneering research, state of the art engineering, and out-of-the-box thinking have produced a speaker so advanced, you will go quickly from admiring the design (easy enough to do) to marvelling at the nuances of the music and the complexity of the arrangement. This is sound with such unparalleled depth and feel, it could almost be live. |
