Perfection Now
Were you to wish for the perfect speaker, what would it include? Featuring Mirage's proprietary OMNIPOLAR technology, the OM Design Series OMD-15 reproduces sound in a perfect 360-degree dispersion pattern - creating a soundstage so impressive walls virtually disappear. Whether you're into Black Sabbath or Beethoven, you should imagine your favorite music through these speakers, each instrument distinguishable amid the orchestration of the piece. If you close your eyes, you think you're actually attending a live concert. The same goes with NASCAR. It sounds like the race has been rerouted across the middle of your couch. Whether it's the mellow hum of a cello or the full-throated growl of a super-charged engine; it's sound so true, it can only be OMNIPOLAR.
Sound Worthy Of Being Heard... And Seen
A combination of elegant design, sophisticated driver technology, and Mirage's exclusive OMNIPOLAR technology make this floorstanding loudspeaker the ideal solution for virtually any sound application. With a system frequency response of 33Hz to 20KHz, this system defines the highest standard of home theater sound. The OMD-15 features a 5.5" Poly Titanium Deposit Hybrid midbass driver, a 5.5" passive radiator, and powerful 5.5" Poly Titanium Deposit Hybrid woofer with down-firing port -- each featuring Mirage's patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround and all mounted in a beautifully curved sealed cabinet. Floating above the woofer is a precisely angled cast aluminum version of Mirage's proprietary OMNIGUIDE module. This OMNIGUIDE module houses the latest generation of Mirage's world-renowned 1" Pure Titanium Hybrid Tweeter. The OMD-15 cabinet is internally divided into two sections. The top section features the tweeter, one of two woofers, and the passive radiator for greater bass extension. The bottom section of the cabinet houses the other woofer in a down-ported enclosure. This ingenious design allows the OMD-15 to generate exceptionally low frequency reproduction considering the very small footprint of the cabinet. The combination of these state of the art drive units, the rigid curved cabinet design, and the latest OMNIPOLAR technology make the OMD-15 one the best speakers Mirage has ever built. Never before has a speaker sounded so realistic, uncolored, detailed and balanced as the OMD-15.
OMNIPOLAR
The effect OMNIPOLAR speakers have in a Home Theater system is markedly unlike traditional forward-radiating speakers. OMNIPOLAR speakers use walls, ceilings and other surface areas in the room to reflect sound towards the listener. With more reflected sound than direct sound reaching the listener, a tremendously large soundstage is created that makes the listener believe the sound is virtually coming from beyond the walls. Mirage's innovative technology creates the most realistic sound you could ever imagine. With OMNIPOLAR technology, you no longer have a small "sweet spot" in which to enjoy your speakers. With the OMD-15, the entire room is a sweet spot.
A Little History
For 30 years, Mirage has researched the ways humans perceive, capture, and comprehend sound. This research and development has allowed Mirage to produce a true evolution of sound products. In 1987, the first bi-polar speaker, the M-1, won countless awards for revolutionizing speaker technology. The creation of OMNIPOLAR sound, which radiates sound in a 360 degree spherical spectrum has also won numerous awards and obtained rave reviews. Mirage continues to strive towards the goal of producing sound as realistic and powerful as possible from small, attractive and affordably priced speakers.

I have owned several brands of speakers in this price range. The OMD-15s are my favorite. Other reviewers have mentioned the huge soundstage. This is true, I was surprised to identify two factors that significantly influence the soundstage and details speaker placement and room characteristics brighter vs. darker sounding. In my darker room carpet, wallboard, cloth sofa, this speaker is best when placed at least 2 feet from the rear and side walls when the speaker were closer, the sound was less detailed and soundstage reduced. I burnt-in the speakers in my unfinished basement which has concrete walls and floor i.e. much brighter room. The omni-directional sound in the basement was simply unreal and extended beyond width of the speakers. The OMD-15s are great for movies. They also excel with classical music, producing especially lifelike and full-bodied sound with wood instruments. Pink Floyd is especially holographic. Male vocals and acoustic music also sound great. The OMD-15s are less impressive with female vocals and at times with traditional rock electric guitar. The speaker can struggle in this area of the midrange, producing a less articulate sound than I would like. For example, Jewels Spirit CD is well-recorded but her vocals are veiled in comparison to my Wharedale Evo2. Overall, a great speaker for me mostly classical and movies, but you may want to consider another option if you listen heavily to female artists.

Great product. Great price. Vanns service was more than I could have asked for. The OMD 15 is a beautiful floor stander. Finish is second to none for the price and the clarity is outstanding. I have a 5.2 with OMD 15s OMD 5s and a OMD Cs1 and 2 pb12 plus subs. The soundstage offered by the omnI-dIrectIonal guIdes Is is very deep and fills my room. I would suggest adding a powered sub if your use is for the AV side. Very happy with the towers. Breakin time is important though. They have only gotten better with time. I've owned mine for about 7 months and am very satisfied.

Everything about the Mirage OMD-15 speaks quality. Both speakers arrived, unharmed, even though the exterior packaging looked somewhat beat up. The speakers sound great, I'm pretty sure from all the other reviews, these speakers will sound even better after the initial 100 hour burn in. Couldn't be happier, unless maybe I could have bought the OMD-28s, out of my price range..... but I can only imagine.

If you are reading this you have likely read or will read the numerous other reviews on the OMD-15s. They replaced a pair of OMD-5s I used for general stereo music listening, movies and TV. I gave up my surround system some years ago because l prefer the simplicity and subtle nuance of ordinary two channel stereo. Like the other reviewers have said, the Mirages need a minimum of 100 hours to hit their stride...and when they do, magic happens. You must, must have quality amplification for solid base and well defined midrange. I am using a vincent SA 31 power amp with 150 watts each side bi-wired with Audio Quest 4 speaker cable. The only hit I would level on the OMD-15s is they may not be the last word in pinpoint imaging. They image like crazy but in a more floating in space sort of way. The muscians or vocalists are not exactly nailed to the floor like a high end direct front firing speaker might offer. Dont worry audiophiles, there is still a sweet spot where accouistic holographic magic still happens! Just be sure to keep the Mirages at least 24 from the back wall and at least 36 away from side walls. Ive been messing around with stereo audio for something like 40 years and I must say the OMD-15s are perhaps the best sounding speakers I have ever owned. Buy them before they are gone.

After two weeks to reflect, this purchase now feels like it should fall under the heading of getting greedy. Our TV room is pretty good sized 18x17 but with four OMD5s and a strong sub woofer, we already felt lavishly immersed. What you get for the step up is mostly horse power. Have no regrets because this is great value but if you have somewhat less family room- definately consider the little sibling. Given the modest dimensions, its even more of an engineering marvel. However, if you need to accommodate bigger spaces or make bigger impressions, cant go wrong with this purchase.

Went from the Mirage OS3fs to the OMD 15s and was not expecting a huge improvement in sound. Boy was I wrong the OMD 15s sounded great right out of the box. The OS3s and OMD 15s both sounded great for movies in a 5.1 system but when it came to music the OMD 15s excelled big time. Music just came alive, cant wait to the 100 hour break in period so I can really push the speakers. I purchased 2 open box returns and both speakers looked brand new. Only issue was Vanns did not check to well on what speakers came with. One speaker was missing 1 of the 4 carpet spikes and the cleaning cloth and other speaker was missing manual, gloves and Mirage peal of label you can attach to speaker. Plus the accessories where ina seperate bags and should have been put into one bag. When I opened boxes, accessories just fell all over the place. But for the price it was a amazing deal.

The sound is full and I can appreciate the reflection of the music. The Mirage OMD-15 speakers were replacements for my 20 plus year old dbx speakers. The mirage speakers are the same height, but only one third the over all size. They more then match the dbx for sound quality, and look so much better.

The OMD-15s are a bit expensive for the average consumer, but it makes sense to invest in high quality speakers as they are the weakest link in any modern sound system. Compared to my Cambridge Ensemble II surround speaker system, the OMD-15s are a significant performance upgrade. Build quality is excellent and the beautiful Rosewood & Black finish is of the highest furniture quality. Connected with a 12” powered sub-woofer, I then AB switched the OMD-15 with my existing speakers. The mid range and base response was strong and tight. I found the upper frequency response to be superior with very distinct and clear reproductions of cymbals, vocals, snare drums, bells, guitar picks, etc. All this at low sound levels! More like you would expect from headphones, not floor standing speakers. Blues, Jazz and Instrumental CDs all benefited from the omni-directional sound pattern of the OMD-15s. The words of vocals jumped out as clear and distinct. My wife, no audiophile, was surprised that a speaker upgrade could result in such an improved and pleasurable listening experience. Bottom line is that I can listen to these Mirage speakers for hours, at moderate sound pressure levels, without them becoming numbing or tiring to the listen experience.

I hooked them up using 14 guage speaker wire to a Denon AVR 1707 reciever. I did the recommended 100 hour break in period using a moderate volume level. I did this in surround mode with the Mariage OMD-C1 center speaker also hooked up. Then I did an additional 80 hours using the direct mode and just the OMD 15s. I am very pleased with these speakers. They excel when used for home theater and for music. They are certainly the best speaker buy, for the money, on the marker today!

I have a medium end system, denon 4803ci, infinity Kappa 600 speakers, ect. Adding these is not a huge upgrade, but they hang well with world class Kappa 600 speakers and the Denon is powerfull enough to drive these with 170 rms per channel as these are 6 ohm speakers. Finish and build is outstanding and rivals any high end speakers out there. Although, I would say the finish and grills are much more durable than most. Placement is important and you will have to move them around for the best sound. Breakin is a long one, mine went weeks before they started to really open up, but who cares about that, it just gets better and better.

Ive only had these speakers a little over a week so they have just gotten past the 100 hour break-in period that Mirage insists on. I ran them all day while Im at work to hurry it up. I bought a full 7.1 setup with 4 OMD5 surround speakers and an OMDC1 center in addition to the OMD15 fronts. Im keeping my old sub for the time being at least. These speakers are beautiful and arrived in perfect condition. I dont know that the gloves and polishing cloth are strictly necessary but a nice touch. Setup was very simple once I lugged away the much heavier old speakers they are replacing. Im using an Onkyo TX-NR809 THX Certified 7.2-Channel Network AV Receiver. At first I was a bit concerned that the highs were too soft but these speakers certainly do change as they break-in. They are sounding great now. I have not run the Audyssey Room EQ yet, that should only improve things. The sound stage is amazing, very spacious with a large sweet spot. In fact its not really a spot at all but a large area. Only when you get way off toward one speaker does it fall apart. At the price Vanns is closing them out with no tax or shipping these are one fantastic bargain.

The manual and other reviews suggested a good break in period so I ran them every day at a slightly lower than moderate level 12 hrs a day for two weeks. BIG difference between the 1st day and now. I chose these speakers because I needed speakers that dont force you to have a sweet listening posistion. They fill the bill for me but Ill be getting an amp with more power. I started reading reviews from all over the internet, literally over 100. So after reading the reviews, I pulled out my charge card and took the plunge. Think about this for a second...I purched these speakers without ever hearing or seeing them, but just from the reviews I read, is that crazy or what. Well the speakers arrived within 4 days by standard shipping, that in itself is outstanding. I opened the box the speakers came in and it was like Christmas morning, these speakers were beautiful. I couldnt believe the finish on the cabinets, it was unbelieveable. Ive never seen speakers at this price that looked this good. If the sound was anything like the looks, I made a great choice. Well...I made a great choice, the OMD 15s sound great. Ive got them hooked up with a 300 watt sub, but they sound great all by themselves. Mirage and everyone in the reviews says they need about 100 hours of break-in period. Well Im about 15 hours into the break-in period, cant wait to open these bad boys up!

I recently purchased the Mirage OMD-15 front speakers, along with OMD-5 rears, the OMD-C1 Center and a and Mirage Omni S-10 sub. This is all powered by a Denon AVR-1912 AV Receiver. To say that I am satisfied is an understatement.
First of all the review of Vanns is important. There customer service representatives are extremely helpful, the person Ryan that I worked with spent all the time it took to look through user manuals for the receiver to ensure that it would properly pass through 3d signal, even when not turned on so that I could ensure my mother can operate the TV without having to learn the stereo. They also gave me a great price, and worked out discounts on shipping from different facilities so that I would get all of the components at the same time. Great onlinephone shopping experience...
As for the speakers. The OMD-15s sound especially amazing for speakers in this price range. I hooked these up in a bi-amp configuration because I had an extra set of outputs on my receiver just for that and it made them sound even better. Movies I get deep punchy bass through these even without the sub which surprised me given the somewhat small form factor of the speakers, the midrange sounds fantastic and the highs are unbelievable. I have a VERY oddly configured room and these speakers fill it better than anything I have tried. Movies are best watched with the 5.1 setup, however I play music just through these fronts and it sounds remarkable. Ive never been much of a classical fan, but ifwhen you buy these you have to put on some Mozart through a high def. source just to experience the remarkable range of sound!
The final thing I want to state about these is the stunning look and build quality of these. Ive owned lots of speakers, and most of them are either ugly as can be because they are huge rectangles, or tiny things that are meant to be unobtrusive and therefore overlooked. These speakers are a statement in any room. they are also very Stable I have 2 dogs, a 5 year old and a 6 year old running around my living room and they have not managed to nock these over yet.
If you are considering speakers in this price-range I would advise you to add these to the list!

I have had many speakers over the years and these are some of my favorite. I have these OMD-15, and a pair of Mirage OMD-28s. They sound very similar. The advantage these have over the 28s, is that they are not nearly as power hungry. They play very well, with a standard receiver. The OMD-28s need a lot of power to make them sound good. I am running the 15s on an Adcom GFA-5802, and the 28s on two Emotiva XPA-1 Monoblocks currently. But i auditioned the Omd-15s on a Marantz SR7005. That is what actually convinced me to buy them. There is not another speaker series, that has the sound stage of Mirage, and i have listen to plenty. There only downside, is that you have to be at the proper elevation, in relation to your speaker. Sit to high above them and they become very bright. So they arent the best for tiered seating. All in all, the Mirage OMD-28s are my favorite speaker everKlipsch, Martin Logan, Boston Acoustics. The Mirage Omd-15s Are a real close second with just a little less bass output. Overall they are fantastic speakers, that are incredibly warm and enjoyable to listen to.

I bought this for my fathers birthday present. He opened the box and he was amazed at the quality of the Mirage speaker. Inside the box contained a pair of gloves which use for handling of the new speaker. The glazed rosewood color brighten up the room and it shows the quality of the wood. My father loves them so much. The high are very precise and omni directional, the bass kinda weak I suspected the Sony AVR 100watt x 5, but the subwoofer filled in the gap. My dad saids he has not heard any speakers giving so much detail and clarity like this speakers. I would give this Mirage OMD15 all 5 STARs, and I told my father wait til the speaker break-in. He started to bring out all of his CDs and started listen to them again.
5 STARs for me.

I paired these speakers with the Mirage OMDC1 center speaker and the Mirage OS3 satellite speakers. I can honestly say that I've never been immersed in sound until now. Whether I'm listening to music or watching a movie, my Mirage system just blows me away! In addition, two days after I bought the OMD15’s from Vann’s, they reduced the price for a Memorial Day sale by $100.00 per speaker. Vann’s promptly honored the reduction in price. I’m sold on this company for all my audiovisual needs!

I purchased 4 OMD 5s for surrounds, 2 OMD 15s for front mains, and a C1 center to replace my 10 year old M&K 750 THX system. I loved my M&K system but due to our limitations with wall mounting siderear surround speakers I stumbled upon this line in a search for new surrounds that would offer me better installation options, needless to say I took the plunge and purchased an entirely new and matching system. I researched and agonized for months before pulling the trigger and all I can say is that I couldnt be happier!
Botttom line... once these speakers went through the 100 hour recommended break-in they blew away my old system. The sound isnt anything special right out of the boxes, they really do need to break in for 100 hours before they fully come to life, and once they do they will bring a huge smile to your face. Yes, omnipolar sound is a little different than the direct and diploar sounds that I had been used to but the sound stage they produce is amazing to say the least. I used the MCACC auto set-up on my Pioneer and everything just sounds perfect, but I cant wait until they are hooked up to the new Yamaha flagship receiver that will be my next purchase. Movies are significantly more dynamic sounding than my M&Ks and music sounds so much more musical. All sound is much more dispersed and deep with no localization. You cant find a better deal for the quality I dare you to try!
The build and finish on these babies is top notch, not to mention the high WIFE APPROVAL FACTOR, they look and feel high furniture grade I bought the gloss piano black. Make sure to set your receiver to 6 ohms in order to power them properly my Pioneer is pushing them at 150 watts x 7 at 6 ohms with no problems. Corner mounting is not advised per the manufacturer but I had no choice for my rearback speakers and they still sound great there.
If youve been holding off on these because you cant demo them live, or for whatever reason all I can say is PULL THE TRIGGER AND DO IT!. My leap of faith in purchasing these un-heard has turned out to be the best home theater purchase Ive ever made. VANNs customer service was great with answering my pre-purchase questions thanks Ryan! and they were delivered to me in 3-4 days well packaged and undamaged.

Based on the other 71 reviews it is probably safe to say there is some consistency and excitement around these. Got mine yesterday... Full, rich, crisp highs, good mids and lows, positioning makes a big difference... in my room at least. Very high quality build... think BW CM series, great packaging and fast shipping... thx Vanns! Slightly power hungry in a good way. I am running north of 180w per ch on high end Marantz and am in good shape by a large margin. These are one of those rare buys you stumble across and pat yourself on the back after you unpack and listen to. From what I have read, they are discontinued, hence the price. First let me say I have a terrible room. Weirdly reflective and the way I am forced to set up my system doesnt help either. I have had a few different speaker setups in here and have not been happy at all. Some of them quite expensive. Monitor Audio Nothing sounded right. Poor imaging and soundstage despite spending thousands of dollars. Very distressing. I sold the Monitor Audio speakers and while researching something else to try, bought a pair of OMD5s for rear surround. Mostly because of reviews and Vanns incredible price. Hooked them up as rightleft and Wow! Great! Clear dynamic sound and the harshness is gone! Omnipolar uses my horrible acoustics to an advantage! I immediately bought a pair of OMD15s and a C1 center and I am very happy. Whats also impressive is the look and finish of these speakers. pictures dont begin to do these justice. The finish is absolutely gorgeous. The only downside is the low bass response is a tad light but I have a pair of great DIY Dayton subs so this is a moot point.

I would like to first start that Dustin was a great rep that assisted me with my purchase and Vanns being so prompt with the delivery.
As for the product itself, although I am still in the breakin period, these speakers are wonderful. I had a chance to give the OS3-FS a listen at BB but found this deal for the OMD-15 and since it was a higher line, great reviews on the AVS forums, and Dustin, I took a shot at OMD-15s and have not been disappointed. I have these as fronts with my Mirage MX 5.1 powered by Denon 3311 and they sound amazing. The crisp highs, the clear mids for voice.. I havent had a chance to test the lows much though but I was satisfied after watching the Depeche Mode Live in Barcelona Bluray. I cant wait for these speakers to be broken in...
Bottomline, these are a must have if in the market for tower speakers especially at this price range...

I have completed my purchase of the OMD15, OMD5 and OMDC1 rosewood. These are a downsize for me from some old Infinity Beta speakers. I wanted something smaller, better looking and better performing. These speakers accomplish this and more. I am currently running mine without a sub and using an Emotiva XPA-5 amp and UMC-1 processor. This provides plenty of power for good bass response. These speakers output good bass, but do require more power than my old betas to reach the same volume level. The look and finish are a work of art and look great in my living room. This is the best upgrade I have made in years.
To bad the parent company for Mirage, Klipsch, has been bought out by Audiovox. This could be bad news for Mirage, Energy and Klipsch speakers. I know I will not be buying anything from these companies until Audiovox can prove that they are not simply turning these brands into simple Walmart products. My advice is to buy these product while you still can.

Recently purchased a pair of the Mirage OMD-15s for use in a future 5.1 system. having already experienced the incredible field of sound the OMD-5s presented I decided to upgrade my mains to the 15s. And man am I completely satisfied!
While the 5s are a tremendous speaker themselves, they are only a glimpse into what the 15s offer with regards to presentation, depth and room-filling sound.
Vanns had them to my door in perfect condition in 3 days. Absolutely beautiful speakers with a very high WAF rating. Take your time with experimenting the placement of these fantastic speakers, for they sound good most places but extraordinaire when that sweet spot is discovered. For myself the formula was 1 ft from rear wall and 15 from the side of my large entertainment center.
I cannot convey the smile of happiness that these brought to my system. And they are not yet to the 100 hr break-in point yet, so somehow they should get even better!
Two thumbs up for the Mirage OMD-15 and Vanns.com Truly a great product at a fantastic price.

Im on board with the rest of the reviewers, and it’s hard not to be cliché, but speakers really are awesome! Ive just crossed the 100 hour break-in period most time was spent on a digital cable audio channel that played a wide variety of music - recommended procedure! and fed them some decent power - I swear that every decibel increase improved the body of sound exponentially. One thing you may notice - speaker sound, specifically bass response, is WHOLLY dependent on the recording quality and aspects of the music you are listening to - be sure to listen to a variety of different tunes before fully developing your opinion.
A Couple other notes - bi-ampbi-wire is a must - make sure you have an amps that are compatible. Also, make sure you adjust your amp settings to recognize these as 6 ohm speakers.
I have not been happier with a purchase in a long LONG time. If youre still not sure about pulling the trigger...DO IT!

Mirage OMD Product Quality -- One of the best audio packages for their finish and assembly. The piano black was fantastic, binding all tight, etc.....
Mirage Sound Quality -- After letting the system break in for 145 hours at 25 volume, it was amazing how they came alive hour after hour. The clarity and presence are what sold me when I heard them in a local AV boutique. The OMD series of speakers are true reference quality. And the two S-10 subs hit clean and hard, the THX Blue Ray movies sound great.
After setting up the home theater I ordered another system for the upstairs system. I was going to go with a Paradigm HT package, but honestly believe the Mirage system sounds as good if not better at more reasonable cost. The bottom line is that Mirage and Vanns rock!

I ordered these speakers just before Christmas with other OMD components that make up a 5.1 system. While they are still not fully broken end, I must say that I am very impressed with the sound stage of these speakers. It is wide and deep. Decent volume levels can be achieved without a hint of harshness. The build quality of the speakers will floor you. The fit and finish is beyond anything that I have ever seen before. Even the floor spikes are heavy and polished works of art. What I really enjoy about these speakers is the sound quality as low volume levels. I dont typically turn my stereo up very loud unless I am the only one in the house. The detail and imaging from the OMD15 is stunning. I do have these mated to the OMD5 surrounds, OMDC1 center and Prestige 10 sub. As for the acoustics in my living room, they are challenging for any system. It is large 24X28 irregular shaped room with 12 foot ceilings, brick, glass, and open walls into adjoining rooms. The amp that I using is a Pioneer Elite with 110 watts at 8 ohms, but since the Mirages are 6 ohm speakers, the power jumps up to 140 per channel - which is plenty. I havent noticed my receiver getting hot or the speakers being power hungry. As for bass, the OMD15 do have a nice refined punch to them, but the drivers are small for my room anyway and the Prestige 10 is a welcome addition very nice sub by the way. For the money, you really cant go wrong here. Personally, I would get the matching surrounds and center channel since they are timbre matched and really compliment one another.

After having listened to these speakers before I was very happy to find them at such a great price at Vanns. After placing the order it took about three days to get the speakers delivered with the free-shipping option.
The packaging was ok, btu when I started unpacking the individual speakers I got my first pleasant surprise - Mirage not only had excellent fit and protection, they included a pair of soft cloth gloves with a non-slip rubber grip to ensure you wouldnt drop your high-gloss speakers! Included was also a comprehensive manual on how to set up your speakers to get the most of them. The high-gloss finish and the craftsmanship in these speakers are amazing!
After having hooked them up to my stereo system I started playing some music, and I was immediately impressed with the incredible clarity in the highs and the composed mids, however I did find the low-end a bit lacking. As I let the speakers break in by playing at low to normal volumes it was clear that the bass was improving, and now I feel that these speakers handle every style of music I have thrown at them with no problem.
All in all I feel that these speakers with the omni-technology set a wonderul soundstage with crips and clear highs, defined mids and will provide adequate oomph in lows after break in period is over. However, if you are a bass-aholic I would have to suggest something else or combine with a subwoofer, but for the normal hifi person these speakers are incredible even at regular price, but at the the current price point I have a hard time seeing anything could give you better value for money!

Im grateful to the person who posted on an audio forum about these speakers being on sale at Vanns. After looking at the product page then reading as many reviews as I could, I purchased them even though Ive never heard any Mirage products before.
This is a no-brainer buy - these speakers look gorgeous - build quality, materials, fit and finish are first rate. The sound is superb - very natural, clean, crisp and balanced. For music I dont feel a sub is necessary but for home theater use I think you need one.
Also, even though it is an omni-polar design, that doesnt mean you can just place them anywhere in the room. I would advise experimenting with where you put them. Even changing the toe-in very slightly made a difference in my room.
Overall, these are truly excellent speakers at a crazy good price. All I want to do is spend time listening to them!!! Of all the speakers Ive owned, these are the most transparent, i.e., are most like they disappear and you dont feel you are listening to speakers. I also purchased the C-1 center and a pair of the OMD-5s for surrounds and those are wonderful as well.

If these speakers do not sound like everything you would expect after reading all of these countless reviews, blame your receiver.
I made the mistake of blaming these speakers for a severe lack of mids and bass while hooked up to a Marantz NR1501. After trying these speakers on my Band & Olusen Beomaster 9000 I was blown away. Absolutely stunning trebles, nice mids, clean bass not boomy.
Pros
Pristine Trebles
Clean mids. and bass
Imaging is stunning
Fit and finish is gorgeous
Cons
A bit power hungry dont bother running 50watts or less
Bass and mid response could be better, wish this had a 6.5 woofer instead of the radiant woofer
Summary
Dont hesitate to buy these. Expect sub-par sound during the break-in period and it just gets better, even after the 100 hour break-in. Plan on investing in at least a $600 receiver to get the full potential out of these great speakers.

The Mirage OMD 15 is truely a unique speaker and provides a truely unique sound experience to boot. I have always been a fan of front tower speakers that had a presence. However, with the OMD 15 the presence came in way of it unique look and that was before turning on the receiver...and once the receiver was on the difference was audible immediatly. The music was around me and envloping me rather than coming at me. It did not matter which direction I shifted my head the full spectrum of crisp, clean audio could be heard. It was like the whole room was the sweet spot. I have only had the speakers for a week and am still in the break in period per the manufacturers recommendations. However, I cannot wait to really hear what these things can do. I have been so intrigued and captivated by the sound produced by these speakers I have gone ahead and ordered 4 surrounds and a subwoofer from Mirage. I cannot imagine what that experience will be like once the whole package comes together. I am truely impressed.

Then the sound, at low volume, I started to hear things, from music that Ive heard for years, that i never noticed before. I cant wait to crank them up after the break in. Last, but not least, is Vanns. At Vanns they are fast and they know what they are talking about.

I have never read so many reviews on speakers as I did on the Mirage omd-15 but due to the high price of $2500 per pair I thought that I would have to save quite a while to acquire them but when Vanns advertised these for less than $1000, I emailed Roger Kanno who reviewed these a few years ago to find out why these were so cheap. I quickly placed an order based on his reply. On hearing that I ordered these, my wife became angry because I own about three other sets of floor standing speakers. I just hooked them up and proceeded the breakin process. When she saw them, her eyes popped and when she heard them she was speachless. My most expensive speakers which are over $1000pair are in no class with these. These speakers are very addictive. The more you listen to them the more you get attached to them. Since I got the OMD-15 I spend more time playing all my old CDs because I hear certain instruments through these speakers which I only could only have heard on the Sennheiser HD-600. My advice is to grab them now.

I bought the speakers from vanns.com two weeks ago, They arrived promptly as per the schedule shown in the website. They were very well packed and the speakers come with pair of gloves and wrapped with good amount of protective material. I quickly unboxed them and it took about 100 hours for them to completely break in and start performing at the full potential. They do really good job with music and mid range. The vocals are very clear and I haven't heard such good mid range before at this price range. Very good bass - tight and defined. so far I am pleased with the performance. With $100 off in the summer, it looked like a great deal and I took the plunge. I am glad I did it. If you are looking at this price range, you should give these speakers serious thought. You can't go wrong with them.

I just received these over the holiday weekend and all I can say is that they exceed all my expectation and more. The only drawback is speaker placement, but thats with any loudspeaker, so thats not a big deal. Too close to the wall, it becomes boomy. Too far, the bass thins out. Nevertheless, Im sure after the break-in period of 100 hrs, the sound will loosen up and become even better.
Design - Beautiful piano finish is visually pleasing.
Quality - Not bad for something assembled in China. You might want to remove the made in China sticker on the back as it looks poorly attached.
Sound - For the price, you cant find anything better. Is it as good as the Vienna Acoustics, B&Ws, Wilson Audio of the world? Maybe not, but youre not paying those prices either. Besides, it depends on your equipment amp, cables, line conditioner, etc.
Overall - I would buy another pair for the rear if I have room.

Just got my OMD-15s and OMD-C1 today - already got the surrounds --0MD-5s-- earlier this week... These speakers are absolutely stunning. Right out of the box, they are such a beauty to behold. First class... the gloss finish is very high end. I am an artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist musician. I appreciate the attention to detail in every way on these speakers. Nice touch with the gloves, polishing cloths etc.
They sounded amazing out of the box, but as we all know it takes at least another 70 to 80 hours before the burn-in period evolves. Thats when they will really begin to sonically reveal themselves as speakers. Can not wait to hear them. Meanwhile, I enjoy even just looking at them... Visually artful and elegant. Very natural sounding and airy. The sound stage is transparent and dimensional.
A sonic wonder and for the price, simply amazing. I look forward to also getting the OMD-28s, C-2, and OMDRs as soon as possible... stock permitting...
Thanks Vanns for such great pricing on everything!!!!

I purchased these along with the 28s and OMD-C2 for a 5.1 combination theater and music system. These have been relegated to the rear surrounds. While I have not used them as mains they blend very well with the 28s and C2 to form the best theater system I have heard. There is no sonic differences between the speakers that would draw attention away from the theatrical performance. This is key and usually the rears or surrounds are the weak link in the system. This is not the case with the 15s. I play 5.1 music and they sound great. I have them set-up to run full range and they do have enough bottom-end to approach a true full range speaker. The response is 33-20K hz. This is excellent when you consider the slinder build of the cabinet and that they weigh only 35 lbs. Mirage has a winning design with the OMD series and they have won me over both sonically and visually!

I searched a very long time to get the perfect speakers to replace a barely adequate satellite sub system from a VERY famous speaker marketing company. I looked and listened to nearly every speaker brand with towers in the $1000 - $5000 range. I immediately loved the Mirage OMD line the first time I saw and heard it. When Vanns came out with such a ridiculously low price for a great speaker it was a very easy decision to proceed with the purchase.
When they arrived - sort of - when one of the speakers arrived I was immediately struck again by the build quality and finish. FedEx had dropped the other speaker and Vanns already had a replacement on the way. Vanns CSRs are the best in the business. So after waiting for FedEx to get the replacement speaker, I eagerly disconnected the old system when it arrived.
Upon listening, I was convinced I would never get rid of these speakers. They are the best I have ever owned. I cannot see spending thousands of dollars more when these sound incredible. The Omnipolar design works great in a large open family room with several viewing listening positions. There isnt a bad seat for family movie nights. I am still adjusting their location for the absolute best sound before installing the spikes.
Movie and television sounds effects are very well defined and clear. I hear things in CDs I have listened to hundreds of times and never heard before. The soundstage is expansive and detailed no matter what I am listening to. Bass is adequate for nearly anyone even though I added a sub for LFE.
Simply put, I think anyone that tries these speakers will be very impressed by the performance, build quality, appearance, and thanks to Vanns - value. I considered going with OMD-28s since Vanns has a great price for them also, but the OMD-15s fit into my room perfectly and I think the they sound great. Admittedly the 28s do have some advantages, but it wasnt worth $2K more to me.
Vanns and Mirage have made me a VERY happy customer.

The Speakers were delivered in a very timely manor, ordered late Friday afternoon, delivered the following wednesday. My first impression when taking them out of the box was WOW, the speakers looked so good, I did not want to touch them. Mirage solved my delemma by including a pair of gloves for handling. Once hooked up, I noticed an improvement in sound immediately, hearing sounds and instruments that I never heard before with my old MKs. I have a large room where these speakers are placed and it fills the room just fine, and quite frankly fills every room in the house with sound when you crank it up. I am pleased with my choice to go with this speaker and cant wait to purchase an AVR that can enhance this sound further. Unfortunately, I own a very low end Yamaha AVR and am interested in the Denon AVR 3310. Now with that said I gave a performance rating a 4 but with a nice AVR this could be a 5. Just looking for a bit more treble, which may not be the fault of these speakers and more a fault of my current AVR.

I recently purchased these speakers as part of an upgrade to a new surround-sound system. Having installed and broken in my pair of OMD-15s, I am very pleased with the purchase.
The strengths of these speakers, as I hear them, are very clear and detailed sound, and very good stereo imaging. The highs and mids are clear and detailed, but not harsh. The bass is tight, and does extend low enough to reproduce kick drums and bass guitar notes well. I noted that, when listening to piano recordings, I could hear the percussiveness strings being hit. Vocals are very realistic - on the Norah Jones track titled, Waiting from The Fall, the vocals seem to emanate from the center of the sound-stage - side to side AND front to back. Ive found the OMD-15s to be very good for classical, jazz, electronic, and folk music.
The placement of these speakers is important - for me, particularly with the bass response. Non-optimal placement may yield boominess at certain low frequencies, or may create a hole in the mid-bass frequency range.
The manual for these speakers available from the manufacturers web site recommends a 100-hour break-in period. I can say with confidence that the bass response improved notably by the end of this break-in period.
I would definitely recommend these speakers - particularly at their current pricing.

Recently received the OMD-15s to replace an older set of Mirage OM-12s. I am a long time Mirage fan. Also have a set of OM-9s that I will be keeping. I have owned Bose, Klipsch, Def Tech, and others, but just always come back to Mirage. The Omnipolar soundstage is definately different than traditional speakers, in that it widens and deepens the soundstage. The speakers seem to disappear , to the point where you cant pinpoint the speakers location. I would compare it to an actual live performance, where sound hits you from all directions. The OMD-15s use the room walls and bounderies to reflect sound, much like a live stage performance would. These are fantastic speakers. Highly recommended. Great detail and imaging. Nice sweet midrange also. Bass is excellent for music, but for HT, a sub is needed.
Did I mention the OMD-15s are gorgeous! I got the Rosewood, and the finish and build quality is exceptional. WAF is guaranteed with these beauties.
It would be hard to find speakers at this price that could equal the OMD-15s.

From what i read, these are some of the best speakers from Mirage and they could be have for a fraction of the price since they are discontinue

The OMD15s are great. Not only are they beautiful, they are powerful and clean sounding. Yeah, their Omnipolar technology is awesome when you are off to the side, but it is what a front LR should be doing - an enveloping and dispersive sound field despite the traditional way of how speakers should be. You kind of feel like you bought more speakers by accident! For the price that Vanns charges, it is a steal! Oh, Vanns free shipping and speedy service helps too!

These replaced my larger Energy Audissey BPS 5plus2s, as I wanted to downsize. But the smaller size of these speakers does not mean small sound.
-Soundstage - With care to placement, HUGE soundstage. Wide, deep and tall. Large sweetspot, no head-in-a-vice listening position restrictions. They sound great from a wide variety of listening positions. Great for large orchestral recordings, stadium rock, movies, as well as small-venue jazz. Really recreates the ambience of the original recording venue. But these are not speakers for nearfield listening. Give them some space, at least 7-8 ft btw your listening position and the speakers, for medium to large rooms--my room is 20x13x8. Also take care not to over-dampen your walls too much or the speakers can sound muffled. These speakers need the walls to open up and sound good.
-Imaging - Amazing with voices. On the right recordings voices are uncannily suspended between the speakers. You can easily pick out instruments in an orchestra or band. Not quite as razor-sharp as some, but then I think the Mirages are closer to what you would hear in a real concert hall, than the artificially hyper-real imaging you hear from some speakers. Great balance of imaging to soundstage ambience.
-Highs - Very open and articulate, but still sweet, esp after burn-in. No listening fatigue.
-Mids - Neutral, with just a smidgen of warmth. Vocals really shine, but so do instrumental recordings like cello and piano.
-Bass - Surprisingly robust, punchy, and tight for a small floorstander. But I still use a Hsu subwoofer to augment the bottom end.
-Transparency - Transparent to your source equipment, but gilded with a very slightly forgiving warmth. Do not hesitate to pair these with high-quality electronics. I am using a Bryston amp, a PS Audio PCA-2 pre-amp, a MSB Link DAC III, Musical Fidelity X-10 v3 tube buffer, and Sony SACD player. But I have also tried them with my budget Pioneer receiver, and they still sound good.
-Dynamics - Will play LOUD without compression. These can rock the house.
Overall, a nice improvement over my old Energys. They are more accurate, less laid-back, more neutral, do not fatigue, and soundstage even better than my Energys--and they were no slouches in this department.

I have been reviewing and researching the speaker systems for a very long time. I originally had BOSE 3.2.1 system. I was living in an apartment and was happy with BOSE 3.2.1. When I moved into a home, I was thinking of upgrading it to either 5.1 or higher systems. I did a lot of research and was mainly concentrating on traditional speakers. Because of my room dimensions and the seating, traditional speakers are not the ideal fit. I had to read lot of reviews on different forums and models and the technology. From the reviews I came across Def Technology speakers and the Mirage speakers. based on the reviews, I went to local BestBuy and spent time to listen to these speakers Def Techs ST series and Mirage OS - FS. I came across Vanns web site at the same time and their great sale on the spaker systems early 2010. after I saw the sale on Vanns, and listening to these speakers for some time, we fell in love with Mirage OS - FS series but never heard OMD 15 series. We took a chance and ordered OMD 15 series @ 60 sale and very happy with the purchase. Now I own the system for about a month. Vanns customer service is great. One of the item in my order was out of stock and Vanns promptly contacted me and worked with me to find a replacement with no additional cost. Highly recommend Vanns. after this experience, now I regularly browse Vanns to find a sale to expand my system from 7.1 to 9.2 speaker system. Thanks Vanns.

I just received these the 5.1 Mirage OMD set and they look absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, as I am in the military, I am about to move to the West Coast and will then be immediately deploying overseas. As a result, all I had time to do for now was open the boxes, visually inspect them and then put them back in the box for shipping out West, where they will have to wait until I return from overseas to put them through the motions. As a result I cannot comment on their sound quality right now, which is what matters most -- however, they have received very favorable profesional reviews, so there should not be any surprises. As far as aesthetics and build quality go, these are phenomenal speakers. They are very attractive speakers, solidly built, quality gold plated binding posts and beautiful high gloss rosewood veneer. Personally I think they look much better with the grills off. A friend of mine was over and he also praised their looks. Vanns customer service was great. The speakers arrived promptly after ordering, were well packaged, and without any visual signs of damage. When I am able I will put them through the motions and write an addendum to this review. Highly recommended.

I stumbled across these speakers at the end of my speaker hunt. I was looking for bipolarreflective speakers and kept seeing mention of how certain models sounded as good as a mirage. I did some research before I bought these and read a number of complaints about the packaging they get shipped in, so I was fully prepared to be unimpressed and unconcerned when the boxes showed up three days ahead of schedule.
I wouldnt have expected anything better. The boxes are quite sturdy and the speakers are snugly packaged within Styrofoam protectors and wrapped in a foam blanket. The Vanns box looked like it had a long trip, but the speaker boxes inside looked like they rolled right off the assembly line.
My wife had been b*&tching and moaning ever since I mentioned I was going to replace our old satellite speakers with a decent set. Once the speakers arrived and I took them out of the box, we both fell in love with them. They are gorgeous speakers. The rosewood is a
very subdued shade of deep redbrown. The glass base and spikes look great. The finish is glossy, mirror smooth and not a single imperfection. These speakers expect to be put on display.
Ive gone over these speakers several times, looking for something wrong with them. The one thing Ive found is that the magnets that hold the top grill on the OMD-15s arent placed quite right... so either the top two or bottom two get seated. but you would never notice if you didnt look for this. Other than that, theyre perfect.
These are awesome speakers. And Vanns has them at a phenomenal price. Ive had them for a couple of weeks and every time I listen to them, Im blown away.

I consider myself an audiophile as I have always loved prestine sound. One thing I have noticed over the years is that once you reach a certain level of audio, the differences are subtle. Im not saying they arent there, its just that generally speakers that sell for over $2000 a pair are going to have crisp highs and solid mids and lows. Every once in a while you come across speakers that excel at more than just reproducing sound. They produce an emotional experience. These are such speakers. Extremely flexible in their placement, these speakers are much less sensitive to seating position, speaker angle and relativity to walls. Because of the nature of their omni-polar mid and high range drivers, the sound is dispersed in an almost frighteningly realistic manner. These speakers do more than produce sound. They produce child-like giddyness. Buy these speakers. Do it.

One of the OMD-15s strengths was its treble, which was extremely smooth. When I played a music, the sound was sparkingly clear and free from harshness. The vocals, strings, and percussion were wonderfully defined, with precisely the right amount of cowbell set slightly back on the stage.
The bass reproduction was a finley balanced as its high-freq performance.
I would say that OMD-15 is the best speaker that Ive heard from Mirage. Price from Vanns was only $499 each is a very good price for a good quality.
I would recommend this to everyone to buy!

I have been looking at the Mirage Omnistat 5 speakers for some time and then saw this deal on Vanns and could not believe it. I went to a local big name store and they could not even get these speakers and could only match Vanns price by offering me a lower end model. Needless to say, I ordered these speakers and they are awsome. The are beautiful and sound as good as they look. They have a full range of sound that the lower models simply cannot match. They are a bit larger though, so make sure you have enough room for a full sized floor standing speaker. I highly recommend these speakers.

I had originally purchased the Mirage V2 FS speakers, and enjoyed their sound quite a bit. All the Mirage speakers have a wonderful openness from the 360 degree sound dispersion. When the OMD-15 went on sale, I decided to treat myself to the next level up, to see how much better they could get. Wow
what a wise choice that was.
After a proper break-in period, and fine tuning of their position, I started to listen to some of my favorite pieces. Just incredible. The midrange is much more filled out in these, over the V2. The bass is pronounced, and powerful, yet not muddy or boomy. The highs are crystal clear and not harsh
smooth as butter. The soundstage is immense, and the imaging is perfect. Each instrument seems to be coming from a specific location between the speakers. The speakers are really laid back, which makes it easy to listen all day without getting a headache, or feeling pushed around.
I listen to a very wide range of music including alternative like Tool or NIN, acoustic like Tom Kerstnes or Damien Rice, classicalopera, electronic like Zero 7 or Ian Van Dahl
even hip hop like The Streets or Emanon, and these speakers have never let me down. Because they are laid back, they wont give that massive forward sound you get from huge party speakers, but they will get loud and stay crystal clear. Stringed instruments like the cello and violin are absolutely amazing, btw. - Acoustic music is my favorite, and these are perfect for that.
My belief on home theatre is that there is nothing better than Mirage. The openness of each Omni speaker blends perfectly with each other, and it is the best Ive ever heard. I coupled them with dual Mirage subwoofers, and it is just amazing.
Bottom line
buy these, push them with a good receiver, connect with good cables, and you will never regret your purchase.
Good listening!
