Simple surround in one speaker product
Surround bars are the next amazing product in the ever-evolving world of home theater. Instead of running wires to several speakers around the room, simply mount the Surroundbar 50 below or above your television, and let sound imaging create a complete, full, surround effect. People love the way this speaker frees up space in the home theater room it eliminates clutter and simplifies your whole experience. Compared to the regular Polk Soundbar, the Soundbar50 is simply made for a wider-screen television, and has two extra drivers for a more immersive, deeper sound.
A solution for every room
Our homes don't always have the ideal space for good home theater speaker placement. Some rooms are simply too small, others have odd shapes so that the furniture can only be in certain locations, and still others don't have enough places to hide wires. While a sound bar (like other speaker systems) performs best when paired with a subwoofer, consumers report with delight that the Polk SDA Surroundbar 50 has a dynamic, rich, convincing sound all on its own, in a variety of room styles.
What is SDA technology all about?
SDA stands for Stereo Dimensional Array, a patented Polk Audio exclusive. Matthew Polk describes SDA Surround Technology as "a mixture of acoustical engineering, psychoacoustic principles and a little magic." To understand how SDA Surround Technology creates 360° surround sound, it's important to know how sound works. Sound travels through air from the source to your ears at a fairly high speed, much like waves travel through water. Your ears are positioned at the sides of your head so you can distinguish exactly what direction a sound is coming from. The tiny difference in intensity and arrival time from one ear to the other allows us to sense immediately from which direction sound is coming. The ear closest to the source of sound hears the sound louder and slightly before the other ear. Cool, right?
More on sound technology...
So that (above) is how sound travels through the air. Next, it's important to know how a recording is made to be played over an audio system. When a multi-channel recording is made, sound supposed to be heard at your left ear comes only out of the left speaker. However over a sound system, you hear sound from the left speaker not only in your left ear but also your right ear as well. The dedicated SDA driver produces a SDA signal to control the amount and type of sound the further ear hears. By carefully controlling the SDA signal, SDA Surround Technology allows the sound image to be precisely steered and projected into the room. You'll experience sound effects and instruments coming from all around you, with no physical speakers beside or behind!
