Get Active With Your Bass

The included subwoofer is an active bass reflex design, rather than passive; active means that a subwoofer picks up and amplifies the signals being sent to it, whereas passive means the unit only picks up and resonates the signals without any extra amplification. An active subwoofer adds the extra power you're looking for in a low frequency effects channel. This subwoofer uses a 135 watt amplifier and an advanced SAW Bass Reflex design to pump out big bass from a surprisingly compact cabinet. The stylish appearance compliments most any decor, so you may want to display it out in the open. If you want your sub out of site, its slim exterior makes it easy to conceal . Since the sound it produces is non-directional, you can easily place this subwoofer practically anywhere. You will also appreciate the added convenience of the subwoofer's Auto On/Off, Level Control and both RCA and high level (speaker) inputs.

Magnetic Shielding

You want to position your front and/or center channel speaker close to your TV, so dialog seems to come from the screen as in a movie theater. This may mean the most convenient location for your center channel speaker is directly on top of your television, or at least in very close proximity. You may also want to position your front speakers next to your TV or place your subwoofer behind or beside your TV. With this in mind, all the speakers in this system are magnetically shielded to prevent magnetic fields from inside the speaker from causing problems elsewhere. Operating a non-shielded speaker too close to your TV and other sensitive components can actually cause damage (much like these same magnetic fields can damage the magnetic strips on credit cards). Be kind to your components, make sure your speakers are shielded.

Several Ways to Display

One advantage of small satellite speakers is that you can place them practically anywhere; on an entertainment center, bookcase, small shelf or mounted to the wall. Sony has expanded your
