Uni-Q Technology consists of an aluminum tweeter small enough to mount in the acoustic center of a 3" midrange driver. An evolution in style and function, the KEF KHT1005.2 is a completely new design that looks better and sounds sweeter than its esteemed predecessor, and anything else in its class. The new 3" Uni-Q driver in these satellite speakers has been comprehensively re-engineered for even cleaner, smoother response. An improved dual neodymium magnet system delivers even heftier bass by allowing greater movement of the speaker cone. The cast aluminium enclosures are shaped to minimize internal resonance so that the satellites fill the room with a lush and incredibly detailed 3D sound. The Center Of Attention

H.M. Warner, of Warner Brothers fame, once griped, "Who the hell wants to hear actor's talk?" You'd expect that sort of dismissiveness from a 1930s movie exec, but today our desires are different. We want to hear and hang on every word our favorite celebs say. Nowadays, movie dialogue had better be good, because you're going to hear every word of it. Carrying up to 60% of the sound, the center channel speaker is vital in any home theater system, and the center speaker of the 1005.2 is up to the job, being tonally matched to the satellites. With the same new generation 3" Uni-Q array as the satellites, the full frontal impact includes amazingly clear dialogue. And the response is so superbly integrated across the frequency range that you soon forget you're listening to a recorded signal. Add Some Boom To Your Room

KEf has improved on perfection with the new KUBE-1 compact subwoofer. A powerful, accurate subwoofer adds weight, depth, and intensity to the 3D sound image, and KEF's new cubed design offers 38-150Hz. The integral 150-watt amplifier drives a 8" bass unit with exceptionally low distortion characteristics for clean, well defined low frequency response throughout the room. And, it has another 8" Auxiliary Bass Radiator to extend the depth. What else could you ask for?

Uni-Q Explained

You don't have to be a genius to understand why the latest KEF speakers sound so good. After all, they incorporate the Uni-Q technology originally designed for one of the world's finest speaker ranges, KEF's legendary Reference Series. The Uni-Q concept is based on using aerospace materials to make the tweeter small enough to place at the acoustic center of the bass/midrange cone. With both drive units on exactly the same axis and sharing the same waveguide, they behave as a single point source that projects a more natural sound image over a much larger area than the usual tiny 'sweet spot'. This is because the Uni-Q configuration eliminates the inherent problems of having the separate midrange and high frequency drive units of a conventional speaker. As loudspeaker radiation varies according to frequency, low frequency and high frequency drivers have intrinsically different radiation patterns whose directivity - known as 'Q' - changes at the crossover frequency. Interference (or 'lobing') between the two units causes a dip in power response around this frequency, with a peak above it due to their differences in directivity. These factors introduce colorations that muddy the sound image. You get no such problems with Uni-Q. Being coincident and perfectly time-aligned, the directivity of both LF and HF units is controlled by the profile of the midrange cone, with no possible path or phase differences between the two, and no 'lobing' interference at the crossover. The 'Q' is unified, in other words - hence the name, Uni-Q. So instead of narrowing towards the crossover and then widening again as is the case with separate drive units, the Uni-Q radiation pattern remains stable. Power response is uniform, with smoother variations on and off-axis. The acoustic image is better balanced and more natural sounding across both direct and reverberant fields. With refinements like these, no wonder the sound is so open and natural. No wonder the action on screen suddenly becomes more compelling. No wonder you get so utterly immersed in the listening experience. It's what the KEF experience is all about.

Better, By Design

KEF has always been renowned for design integrity, and the new KHT 1005.2 is no exception. The parabolic cast aluminium enclosures of the satellite speakers are computer optimized to minimize internal resonance and distortion for a purer, cleaner sound. The ingenious base of each speaker allows you to place them virtually anywhere -- on any flat surface, at any angle on walls, or on the optional stands. KEF: perfect sound, wherever you are.
