Everything You Need

This six-piece home theater speaker system includes a 10-inch, 200-watt, bass-reflex, powered subwoofer; four identical, 2-way satellite speakers for left/right, front/rear speaker positions; a dedicated, dual-midrange, center speaker; wall-mount brackets for the four satellites; and all the color-coded speaker cables necessary to connect your speakers to your receiver or amplifier. The four satellite speakers and center speaker make for crisp, clear reproduction of dialogue, and seamless pans and flyovers. The subwoofer delivers thunderous special effects. All speakers, except the subwoofer, are magnetically shielded for placement near a TV or display. So, with this one package, you get everything you need to treat yourself to truly delicious surround sound.

No Substitute Subwoofer

The subwoofer that comes with this surround sound system delivers top-notch connectivity, as well as terrific low-end sound. The 200-watt powered subwoofer is easy to connect to your system, since it has a special subwoofer input for use with components that have a dedicated connection for low frequency effects output. Other conveniences include level control and a low-pass filter switch for fine-tuning bass response to match room acoustics. The subwoofer also automatically senses the audio signal and powers on or off as needed. This subwoofer definitely provides an easy way to put some boom into your room.

Why The Colors Matter

The HKTS18 uses the surround sound channel color-coding system established by the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) to make setting up your home theater speaker system as easy as possible. Your system includes a set of colored stickers that may be placed near the speaker terminals of each of the four satellite speakers and the center channel speaker. Speakers and electronics terminals have corresponding (+) and (-) terminals. Most manufacturers of speakers and electronics, including Harman Kardon, use red to denote the (+) terminal and black for the (-) terminal. Newer Harman Kardon receivers conform to the CEA standard and therefore use a color other than red or black for the (+) and (-) terminals to indicate some speaker positions. Although the HKTS15 system has red and black collars on the individual speaker terminals to denote the positive and negative connections, your system includes a colored band on the positive lead at both ends of every speaker cable and a matching colored sticker for each of the four satellite speakers and center channel speaker. The center speaker has a green (+) terminal, and the subwoofer has a purple SUB input jack. This system is intended to help you ensure that the speaker in each location is connected to the correct terminals on your receiver or amplifier. With the advent of multichannel surround sound systems, connecting all of the speakers in your system with the correct polarity remains equally important in order to preserve the proper ambience and directionality of the program material.
