2-Way Black Ci Series On-Wall Speaker |
Custom installation calls for additional creativity, plain and simple. That's why the clever engineers at KEF adapted the Ci400 from their immensely popular HTS2005 speaker, adding moisture-resistant alu-skin midrange cones, an optional built-in power transformer for 70v/100v applications, and an adjustable ball joint mounting system that allows for a highly-focused soundstage, wherever you happen to need it. Satisfied? You will be. |

Custom Installations Call For KEF |
Developed from the multi-award winning KHT2005, the Ci Series Ci400 is an innovative loudspeaker offering many advantages and benefits to the professional installer. The discrete, but aesthetically pleasing, cast aluminum enclosure houses a 4" UNI-Q driver array designed to provide ultra wide dispersion and uniformity of sound quality throughout the listening area -- an essential attribute for commercial applications. Unlike other so-called coincident source loudspeakers, KEF's revolutionary UNI-Q technology positions a fully functioning moving coil tweeter at the exact acoustic center of the midrange/bass cone. The use of high-grade crossover components in conjunction with the UNI-Q array contribute to hi-fi sound quality across the full frequency range, making the product ideal for both foreground and background music. The adjustable ball joint between the loudspeaker cabinet and heavy duty mounting bracket provides flexibility in positioning, enabling horizontal or vertical placement on walls, ceilings, in corners, or on shelves. An optional transformer is available, mounted within the bracket, for use with 70/100v line systems. Despite the small size, it delivers extremely impressive performance; and with a choice of silver, soft black or pearl white finishes, to cater for a variety of interior d?cor schemes and architectural specifications, it is ideally suited to commercial installations such as bars, restaurants, leisure facilities, or retail outlets, as well as custom installation in luxury homes. |
An Improvement Upon An Instant Classic |
The first-generation HTS2001 satellite that these custom installation speakers are based on collected so many accolades that the engineers at KEF got greedy. They wanted all the awards... so they built a second-generation product that was even better than the first, and they shared that technology with their custom installation line-up. The result? The new Ci400 satellite speaker, stylish little units outfitted with triple neodymium driver magnets for greater efficiency. Yes, they still look like eggs. Yes, they still sport Uni-Q technology. Uni-Q technology consists of an aluminum tweeter small enough to mount in the acoustic center of a 4" alu-skin midrange driver. This disperses the sound over a much wider area, so everyone enjoys the same clear, warm, realistic sound instead of just those listeners positioned in the small 'sweet spot' that you get with conventional speakers. |
Stylish Satellites |
An evolution in style and function, the Ci400 is a completely new design that looks even better and sounds even sweeter than the kit-based speaker it's based on, and anything else in its class. The new 4" Uni-Q driver in these satellite speakers has been comprehensively re-engineered for even cleaner, smoother response. An improved triple magnet system delivers even heftier bass by allowing greater movement of the speaker cone. The cast aluminium enclosures are shaped to minimize internal resonance so that the satellites fill the room with a lush and incredibly detailed 3D sound. The attention to detail is plain to see, from the shine of the finish to the ingeniously simple wall mounting bracket system. Dynamic. Perfectly balanced. Seamlessly integrated. That's KEF, in a word. |
Uni-Q Explained |
You don't have to be a genius to understand why the latest KEF speakers sound so good. After all, they incorporate the Uni-Q technology originally designed for one of the world's finest speaker ranges, KEF's legendary Reference Series. The Uni-Q concept is based on using aerospace materials to make the tweeter small enough to place at the acoustic center of the bass/midrange cone. With both drive units on exactly the same axis and sharing the same waveguide, they behave as a single point source that projects a more natural sound image over a much larger area than the usual tiny 'sweet spot'. This is because the Uni-Q configuration eliminates the inherent problems of having the separate midrange and high frequency drive units of a conventional speaker. As loudspeaker radiation varies according to frequency, low frequency and high frequency drivers have intrinsically different radiation patterns whose directivity - known as 'Q' - changes at the crossover frequency. Interference (or 'lobing') between the two units causes a dip in power response around this frequency, with a peak above it due to their differences in directivity. These factors introduce colorations that muddy the sound image. You get no such problems with Uni-Q. Being coincident and perfectly time-aligned, the directivity of both LF and HF units is controlled by the profile of the midrange cone, with no possible path or phase differences between the two, and no 'lobing' interference at the crossover. The 'Q' is unified, in other words - hence the name, Uni-Q. So instead of narrowing towards the crossover and then widening again as is the case with separate drive units, the Uni-Q radiation pattern remains stable. Power response is uniform, with smoother variations on and off-axis. The acoustic image is better balanced and more natural sounding across both direct and reverberant fields. With refinements like these, no wonder the sound is so open and natural. No wonder the action on screen suddenly becomes more compelling. No wonder you get so utterly immersed in the listening experience. It's what the KEF experience is all about. |
Better, By Design |
KEF has always been renowned for design integrity, and the new Ci400 is no exception. The parabolic cast aluminum enclosures of the satellite speakers are computer optimized to minimize internal resonance and distortion for a purer, cleaner sound. The ingenious adjustable ball joint base of each speaker allows you to mount them virtually anywhere -- on any flat surface, at any angle on walls, or on poles, using the optional bracket. And the Ci400 has the additional transformer mounted within the base, providing an option for use with 70/100v line systems. KEF: perfect solutions, perfect sound, wherever you are. |
