It features a 1-inch PTH tweeter and a 6.5-inch carbon fiber woofer with butyl surrounds in a 2-way configuration. Like all Incognita in-wall speakers, the HDTWM7 is mounted on a baffle of 1-inch thick MDF (medium density fiberboard) for an extremely solid and vibration-free mounting platform. A high-cut switch is also included for situations in which high frequency equalization is required. What's Under The Grill?

The HDTWM7 In-Wall Speaker employs a 1.0" Pure Titanium Hybrid dome tweeter and a 6.5" carbon fiber cone woofer to produce a perfect sound reproduction. The 1.0" Pure Titanium Hybrid tweeter found on the HDTWM7 boasts crystal-clear and lifelike high frequency reproduction, low distortion, high power handling, and wide dispersion. This tweeter is mounted in a compliant cloth suspension that provides a low fundamental resonance, allowing it to extend lower -- without distortion -- into a frequency range where its dispersion is widest. So, what the heck does that mean? It means you can count on these speakers for notes only your dog will hear, plus the deepest bass notes and rumbling low frequency effects, and everything in between.

Three Is The Magic Number

Mirage loudspeaker design philosophy is based on three key factors: First, low distortion and resonances. Any alteration of the original sound is called distortion and can come from a variety of sources including mechanical, electrical, cone break-up, and/or phase changes. Mirage minimizes potential distortion by precision manufacturing processes, with close-tolerance electrical components, linear motor systems, well-damped linear suspension designs, and very rigid, damped cabinet construction. Second, flat on-axis response and wide bandwidth. Most of what we listen to is in the midrange frequencies, so our listening is very sensitive to inaccuracies and distortions in this part of the audio spectrum. Mirage speakers achieve the desired flat midrange response through well-designed drivers with wide bandwidth and smooth roll-off characteristics, and by precisely calculated crossover frequency points and slopes. And third, wide and constant dispersion. A wide dispersion speaker reproduces sound with far greater realism and faithfulness to the original source. The wide dispersion characteristics of Mirage speakers are largely due to well-designed, high quality dome tweeters with excellent waveform properties. Also important is the ability to pass the sound over to the midrange/woofer at frequencies of about 2 kHz--where the industry standard is an easier to achieve 3.5 kHz--before the midrange/woofer can no longer camouflage its location and becomes directional.

UltraDamped Mounting System

Mirage's UltraDamped Mounting System revolutionizes in-wall speaker performance by eliminating drywall resonances. The mounting system also enables quick installation while dramatically improving performance. First, an optional all metal pre-construction bracket reinforces the drywall and installs between the studs and joists rather than on the face, leaving no drywall bulge. After the drywall is installed, or during a retrofit where drywall is already in place, the mounting kit's WallBracers and acoustic and fire rated damping material are installed above and below the speaker opening. The WallBracers expand to reinforce the drywall and reduce resonance. Resonances are further reduced by the speaker itself - all speaker components are mounted on an extremely dense one inch thick piece of MDF baffle, which is screwed to a rigid clamping bezel with unique spring-loaded mounting dogs. The overall result is a thoroughly damped and vibration-free platform for Mirage Incognita driver technology.
