Featuring the justly famous Mirage 1" PTH Pure Titanium Hybrid dome tweeter, a pair of 1.5" PTH Pure Titanium Hybrid dome midrange drivers, and a pair of 6.5" woofers with carbon fiber cones, the HDT-WM1 is an ideal choice for your most demanding high performance speaker needs. The tweeter and midrange drivers are configured diagonally for optimum sound dispersion in either horizontal or vertical placement. What's Under The Grille?

The HDT-WM1 In-Wall Speaker -- a three-way, five-driver design -- employs a 1.0" Pure Titanium Hybrid dome tweeter, dual 1.5" Pure Titanium Hybrid midranges, and dual 6.5" Carbon Fiber Cone Woofers, to produce a perfect sound reproduction. The 1.0" Pure Titanium Hybrid tweeter found on the HDT-WM1 boasts crystal-clear and lifelike high frequency reproduction, low distortion, high power handling, and wide dispersion. This tweeter is mounted in a compliant cloth suspension that provides a low fundamental resonance, allowing it to extend lower -- without distortion -- into a frequency range where its dispersion is widest. So, what the heck does that mean? It means you can count on these speakers for notes only your dog will hear, plus the deepest bass notes and rumbling low frequency effects, and everything in between.

Three Is The Magic Number

Mirage loudspeaker design philosophy is based on three key factors: First, low distortion and resonances. Any alteration of the original sound is called distortion and can come from a variety of sources including mechanical, electrical, cone break-up, and/or phase changes. Mirage minimizes potential distortion by precision manufacturing processes, with close-tolerance electrical components, linear motor systems, well-damped linear suspension designs, and very rigid, damped cabinet construction. Second, flat on-axis response and wide bandwidth. Most of what we listen to is in the midrange frequencies, so our listening is very sensitive to inaccuracies and distortions in this part of the audio spectrum. Mirage speakers achieve the desired flat midrange response through well-designed drivers with wide bandwidth and smooth roll-off characteristics, and by precisely calculated crossover frequency points and slopes. And third, wide and constant dispersion. A wide dispersion speaker reproduces sound with far greater realism and faithfulness to the original source. The wide dispersion characteristics of Mirage speakers are largely due to well-designed, high quality dome tweeters with excellent waveform properties. Also important is the ability to pass the sound over to the midrange/woofer at frequencies of about 2 kHz--where the industry standard is an easier to achieve 3.5 kHz--before the midrange/woofer can no longer camouflage its location and becomes directional.

Boundary Compensation Circuitry

Boundary Compensation Circuitry solves the imaging and positioning problems created by in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Every room has structural boundaries -- its walls, floor, and ceiling. A speaker flush mounted near these boundaries will excite certain frequencies. This results in mid bass chestiness, which blurs the image -- a problem which has until now prevented all in-wall and in-ceiling products from matching the performance of an equivalent box speaker. Through extensive computer modeling and many hours of experimental research, Mirage engineers were able to create circuitry that manages the boundary effects of mid-wall, near wall/ceiling, and even in-corner installations via a front-mounted switchable crossover circuit. The result? In-wall and in-ceiling speakers that image and perform like other award-winning Mirage box speakers.

UltraDamped Mounting System

Mirage's UltraDamped Mounting System revolutionizes in-wall speaker performance by eliminating drywall resonances. The mounting system also enables quick installation while dramatically improving performance. First, an optional all metal pre-construction bracket reinforces the drywall and installs between the studs and joists rather than on the face, leaving no drywall bulge. After the drywall is installed, or during a retrofit where drywall is already in place, the mounting kit's WallBracers and acoustic and fire rated damping material are installed above and below the speaker opening. The WallBracers expand to reinforce the drywall and reduce resonance. Resonances are further reduced by the speaker itself - all speaker components are mounted on an extremely dense one inch thick piece of MDF baffle, which is screwed to a rigid clamping bezel with unique spring-loaded mounting dogs. The overall result is a thoroughly damped and vibration-free platform for Mirage Incognita driver technology.
