Perfection Now
Were you to wish for the perfect center channel speaker, what would it include? The OM Design Series OMD-C1 is a dedicated three-way center channel that brings the wonders of OMNIPOLAR to your home theater. Its crystal clear dialogue, unsurpassed dynamics, and tonal accuracy are unlike any other center channel. Mirage's proprietary OMNIPOLAR technology reproduces sound in a perfect 360-degree dispersion pattern - creating a soundstage so impressive walls virtually disappear. The net result of this timeless design is the speaker's ability to reproduce a wider listening area that affords excellent sound quality to all listeners, regardless of where they are seated within the room. So, whether you're into Black Sabbath or Beethoven, you should imagine your favorite music through these speakers, each instrument distinguishable amid the orchestration of the piece. If you close your eyes, you think you're actually attending a live concert. The same goes with NASCAR. It sounds like the race has been rerouted across the middle of your couch. Whether it's the mellow hum of a cello or the full-throated growl of a super-charged engine; it's sound so true, it can only be OMNIPOLAR.
Sound Worthy Of Being Heard... And Seen
A combination of elegant design, sophisticated driver technology, and Mirage's exclusive OMNIPOLAR technology make this center channel speaker the ideal solution for virtually any sound application. With a system frequency response of 65Hz to 20KHz, this system defines home theater. The OMD-C1 center channel speaker features a pair of powerful 5.5" Poly Titanium Deposit Hybrid woofers and a 4" Poly Titanium Deposit Hybrid midrange -- each featuring Mirage's patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround. Floating above the midrange is a precisely angled cast aluminum version of Mirage's proprietary OMNIGUIDE module. This OMNIGUIDE module houses the latest generation of Mirage's world-renowned 1" Pure Titanium Hybrid Tweeter. Its beautiful, curved sealed cabinet with high gloss exterior allows it to be integrated into any decor. The combination of these state of the art drive units, the rigid curved cabinet design and the latest OMNIPOLAR technology make the OMD-C1 the best center Mirage has ever built. Never before has a center sounded so realistic, uncolored, detailed and balanced as the OMD-C1. The OMD-C1 comes equipped with two mounting options -- allowing installation either on a wall or on a flat surface using the table top stand.
OMNIPOLAR
The effect OMNIPOLAR speakers have in a Home Theater system is markedly unlike traditional forward-radiating speakers. OMNIPOLAR speakers use walls, ceilings and other surface areas in the room to reflect sound towards the listener. With more reflected sound than direct sound reaching the listener, a tremendously large soundstage is created that makes the listener believe the sound is virtually coming from beyond the walls. Mirage's innovative technology creates the most realistic sound you could ever imagine. With OMNIPOLAR technology, you no longer have a small "sweet spot" in which to enjoy your speakers. With the OMD-C1, the entire room is a sweet spot.
A Little History
For 30 years, Mirage has researched the ways humans perceive, capture, and comprehend sound. This research and development has allowed Mirage to produce a true evolution of sound products. In 1987, the first bi-polar speaker, the M-1, won countless awards for revolutionizing speaker technology. The creation of OMNIPOLAR sound, which radiates sound in a 360 degree spherical spectrum has also won numerous awards and obtained rave reviews. Mirage continues to strive towards the goal of producing sound as realistic and powerful as possible from small, attractive and affordably priced speakers.

My home theater SACD listening system has been a set of 5 of the original Mirage Omnisat speakers, paired with a Boston Acoustics VPS-210 sub, all driven by a Harmon Kardon DPR-1001 receiver. Overall, Ive been happy with the sound, particularly for SACD music and PS3 games, but dialogue in some movies and TV shows could get muddy and lacked depth.
In another part of the house, our two-channel music listening setup is a pair of OMD-5 speakers. Ive been impressed by their sound, as well as the look and feel and build quality, so it is natural at this point to consider Mirage for any upgrades.
Based on the extensive reviews on this site, I picked up the OMD-C1 to use as a center channel, replacing one of the Omnisats. Ive had it in place for only a week, but even without much break in, there is already a significant improvement in sound stage. It is a lot easier to hear differences in spoken voices in different parts of a shot -- the guy in the foreground sounds closer, the woman in the background sounds farther. The clarity is increasing as the speaker breaks in, but its the increased sound stage that has been the most impressive part of the upgrade.
I dont think most people realize how vital an exceptional center channel is to the whole home-theater experience. If people are on a budget, and home theater is their primary application, Id advise them to skimp on the fronts and surrounds and devote most of their budget to the center and the sub. Those two pieces make-or-break the movie experience.
Ive been impressed by Mirage and the omnipolar sound. Its very different and takes some acclimation, but, as promised, it does offer a wider sweet spot and easier integration into less-than ideal environments.
Anyone serious about their home theater has read a dozen articles on the perfect setup for arranging speakers, but the reality is that for most of us, well never have the chance to build a dedicated HT space, and so were always looking for the best compromise between sound, aesthetics and price within whatever sub-optimal space we happen to have available. In my experience, Mirage is one of the best choices for getting the most sound for the best value across a wide range of environments.

OMDC1 exceeded my expectations in terms of sound quality. The design, being more open and less direct, concerned me. My personal taste in a 5.17.1 or 9.1 system is that each speaker if given the chance should standout and create an environment that immerses the viewer in a sonic, head turning, experience. I wanted a very realistic audio arena created. My concern was that the dialog wouldn’t be pinned to the screen buy rather “everywhere”. Well, the OMDC1, like all the Mirage speakers somehow do open the sound radius, but still very much remain pin-point and directional.
The speaker takes on a very different quality depending on the frequency cut-off setting on your receiveramp. yet is able to handle deeper than expected hz. The tonal quality is clean and full, and very much anchors the dialog as it should. Being a center channel driver it also handles very well all the other responsibilities, though, not in a room shaking way.
The design is very pleasing and easy on the eye offering different and eye catching unique view allowing it to properly take a center stage position.
My only misgiving is the provided way Mirage has designed the hanging of the speaker on the wall – like their other bookshelf speakers it put too much concentrated weight in a single area that necessitates a beam, thus limiting positioning, unless a shelf is used to disperse the weight.
The magnet grill is great. Construction top notch, as is the finish. Be very careful of touching the tweeter dome it’s very delicate.
I have been very pleased with the Mirage line and have my friends who have heard them.

This speaker is beautiful along with the rest of the 5.1 set. The wood veneer is second to none that I have seen. I went with the rosewood and am very pleased with the appearance of the speaker. However, the center channel is lacking in the extended lows that are necessary when listening to Dolby Digital and THX modes. Voices are pitchy and lack depth and bass in male voices. I have a powered 12 sub that picks up the lows for sound tracks but in movie 5.1 sound modes my sub and fronts dont produce the vocals. Not sure if the OMD C2 is any better for voices but would be worth a try. I am disappointed with this center channel at the price of $350. I can think of many other centers for this amount that would out perform this center.

This is an excellent speaker, well designed and very well constructed. The rosewood OMD speakers are simply beautiful. However, I wanted to write this review to point out the importance of considering the room environment when purchasing speakers. I have owned many Mirage speakers over the years, starting with the original Omnisat, which I used as LCRsurround speakers in a 5.1 setup. I also own a complete Omnisat2 5.1 setup consisting of the OS2-FS, OS2-CC, and the OS2-Sat. These are all great speakers, which I used in a 14x22 rectangular listing room with 8-foot ceilings and plush carpeting. Properly set up in such an environment, they create a very spacious atmosphere which I prefer for both music and movies. My first quality speakers were a pair of Bose 901 Series IV in the 70s. When setting up a home theater in a new home, I purchased OMD15 speakers for LR, an OMDC1 for the center, and OMD5 speakers for the surrounds. I have to admit that this system did not perform as well as expected, simply due to the vastly different listening environment in the new home. The speakers are located in a spacious great room open to a kitchen, formal dining room, and breakfast nook. The area has an 18-foot cathedral ceiling and all wood floors, so the room is very reverberant. Under these conditions, the room reflections created by the omnipolar design of the OMD speakers are detrimental to clarity and imaging. By contrast, the sound of a Definitive Technology system Mythos 4, LR Mythos 3 center is much better under these listening conditions because more of the sound is directed towards the listeners. This is not a knock on the OMD line, which is a great line of speakers and a great value at current prices. Just be sure you consider the characteristics of your particular listening environment when selecting a speaker design.

Currently I have a full range of the FR-x series speakers, and decided to upgrade one last time to the OM series considering the value Vanns is offering. Thus far I have purchased the OM-C1 and these OM-5s. I am halfway through the 100-hour break-in period, and Im already hearing an unbelievable amount of openness in their delivery. Also, their construction is flawless. Between the piano lacquer finish and the magnetic grills, I don’t even want to handle them for fear of fingerprinting such beautiful pieces of art. I bought 2 OMD5s and the OMD C1 to replace OC3s and V-2 center. The OMD C-1 is way better than the old V-2, more accurate, better and fuller midrange, and dialog is perfect.. I should say I use this set-up for classical music concerts in bluray, where sound is normally DTS MASTER AUDIO. I also watch HD-TV with dolby surround tracks. The OMD5s are much different than the OC3s..The 5s are much flatter and sweeter on the top and do not have the exaggerated lower midrange punch that the 3s have. This effect is good for rock music and movie soundtracks, but not for classical music, especially strings and female voice. The 3s sound a bit coarse by comparison with the 5s. I am deciding whether to demote my OC3s to the rear or just keep my nanosats back there as is. Im not through playing yet! I also have one of the early Mirage LF150 subwoofers that goes down to 23hz In short, these are the best speakers Ive yet heard for this kind of set-up.I and and get

After years of satisfaction with a 5.1 set of Mirages Omnisats coupled with a Polk PSW404, Ive begun building a home theatre based around the Epson 3010 3D projector . Lacking the budget to discard my beloved Omnisats, I decided to retire them from their old duty as SACD music array driven by a venerable Sony DA5ES and use them as the HT array. I purchased Mirage OMD-C1, along with an Energy VSW 10 to augment them in their new home theatre role, given the importance of the center channel in a HT setup. I could not be happier with my choice. The OMD-C1 blends seamlessly with my Omnisats with regards to timbre and dispersion. Dialog is crystal clear, lifelike and appears to be coming directly from the screeen. As regards build quality, the OMD-C1 is 15 pounds of awsome! As great as the Omnisats were, the OMD series easily trumps them with their gorgeous lacquered burled maple finish. Although the piano black finish would have made for a better match with the black composite enclosure of the Omnisats, I couldnt resist the burled maple. No doubt in the back of my mind I know it would match my new OMD-5s should the eventually migrate to HT duty, possibly displaced by OMD-15s in my dreams. Bottom line Especially given their current price, I cant imagine doing any better in choosing the OMD-C1. One more thing. This has been my first experience with Vanns and I couldnt be happier with their service.

Ill just say this, I have champaign taste on a beer budget, Im sure a lot of us probably do. Inspite of the fact most people seem to rate the klipsch rc-62 that I did have, very highly, I wasnt real happy with it. On some things it just wasnt as clear as Id hope it to be. I decided to take advantage of vanns sale on these mirage center channels and see if there would be any improvement. It didnt take long to hear a difference. The mirage is definately a more accurate sounding speaker, so much so that I never realized the different sound quality in things the way you do with the mirage. Even using it as a direct firing speaker instead of its omni reflecting that its supposed to be, it sounds just fine. I think that horn design of the klipsch gave it a bit of loss of clarity that I didnt like in it. With the mirage, it just sounds a lot more natural, period. For the price of these, you can have a much more better speaker than anything at or around its price. Did I also mention, its very good looking too!

This is a very nice center speaker. It looks awesome and the sound is very full and rich. The omnipolar technology is great for a surround system. Watching movies is very immersive with Mirage speakers. The omdc1 is a bargain ! However as with most good center channel speakers, it is quite large and heavy. And although it comes with a wall mounting bracket, this is very small and totally inadequate unless you just happen to be lucky and have a wall stud located exactly where you want the center of the speaker to be located. Also, do not listen critically until you have played about 40 hours of sound through the speaker, because the initial sound is not impressive, but once the speaker has broken in the sound is very good.

First let me say I have a terrible room. Weirdly reflective and the way I am forced to set up my system doesnt help either. I have had a few different speaker setups in here and have not been happy at all. Some of them quite expensive. Monitor Audio Nothing sounded right. Poor imaging and soundstage despite spending thousands of dollars. Very distressing. I sold the Monitor Audio speakers and while researching something else to try, bought a pair of OMD5s for rear surround. Mostly because of reviews and Vanns incredible price. Hooked them up as rightleft and Wow! Great! Clear dynamic sound and the harshness is gone! Omnipolar uses my horrible acoustics to an advantage! I immediately bought a pair of OMD15s and a C1 center and I am very happy. Whats also impressive is the look and finish of these speakers. pictures dont begin to do these justice. The finish is absolutely gorgeous. The only downside is the low bass response is a tad light but I have a pair of great DIY Dayton subs so this is a moot point.

I really like some things about the OMD series. The Rosewood finish is very nice. The towers are also quite nice and seem to sound pretty good for the money. However, that center is really loud. It is not a pleasant loud, but almost a bothersome buzzing loud. I find I have to attenate the channel by 4 db to even enjoy that speaker. Unless durring a movie, then 0 db is fine. my other centers always were pleasant and not too noticable, I think that is proper. Otherwise, maybe I should mention, this is a smaller room, 10 x 20 and a larger room with more distance may sound better. If you want to comare speakers, dont compare on the retail price. The sale price is about what they are worth in this economy. But again, beautiful finish on these babies. MY SYSTEM Denon 5308, OMD C1, OMD 15, OMD 5.

I decided to add a true center channel to my Mirage Nanosat 5.1 system to give it that extra detailed sound in a home theater. I loved the Mirage omnipolar sound and decided to go with the OMDC1. The Nanosat CC was just too small for me and the OS3CC was nice, but Vanns had the OMDC1 on sale I saved even more by buying an open box in the clearance center. The OMDC1 is one of their top of line speakers and the price from Vanns could not be beat. The OMDC1 delivered on the extra clarity and detail that I was hoping for. I believe the center channel is the most important speaker in a home theater setup for dialogue. The OMDC1 will not disappoint. The nanosats were an improvement, but the OMDC1 took it to a whole new level. I love that there are no sweet spots in the room - the whole room is a sweet spot with the omnipolar. Ive had Klipsch and Bose. They dont hold a candle to the Mirage series. The open box was in mint condition and I could not tell that it had been opened or used at all. Saved me a bundle.

Presently, its going through the manufacturer prescribed break in process of 100 hours. So far the sound is amazing. The saying - you get what you pay for - holds true for this unit. For those of you who are looking for a solid center channel speaker, get it at Vanns.coms sale price. You wont be disappointed.

Ive had the chance to properly break in this center channel for the recommended 100 hours, and Ive listened to it. First of all, within the first 24 hours, I was amazed at how the speaker opened up and transformed. It sounded good out of the box, a little break in made it sound amazing. All around, this is an excellent center channel. I love that Im able to wall mount it upsidedown and above my tv. What other center can do that? Also, I swear that the sound is coming out of the center of my tv and not above it. The sound reproduction is crystal clear, with appropriate proportions of treble and bass. Voices on both movies and music have power and clarity no matter how much action is going on around them. When I bought this one, I also purchased 2 OMD5s with it as front L-Rs. I have 2 nanosats in the back for rears, with my nanosub filling in the bottom. Altogether in my 15x25ft room, everything matches and sounds very full. If I had to buy a center channel over again, I would not hesitate for a moment to choose this one.

I ordered the maple version. I wasnt sure how it would look based on the picture ...but its great. Amazing finish and would compliment other light or dark hardwood furniture and accents. The wall mount which I am not using is simple but I assume functional. Not articulating in any way. The table stand basically a thin cradle seems sufficient, but its more of a balancing act then I would ideally like, and doesnt allow for too much tilt adjustment.
You care what it sounds like too? After first hooking it up I was disappointed. After all, a center that truly retailed for $750 initially should knock me off my feet upgrading from an entry level Polk speaker. This wasnt the case. It really seemed to stand out and not sound natural. Overstated highs, annoying harsh mids, and very little low end. I didnt give up ...and ran maybe 20hrs of music an movies through it. Yes, it came to life. Ive never seen such a pronounced break-in transition, but I love it. I cant wait to get a hundred more hours on it so I can sit back and take in all its glory!
Now, do I bite the bullet and order some OMD5s to go with it?

I bought this as a replacement for my Omnisat V2 CC, as the price was incredible and I had previously bought a pair of OMD 5 satellites for my bedroom 2-channel system. I have had the speaker for about 2 weeks now, and I can say that it produced an immediately appreciable improvement in sound quality, voice timbre, and clarity. The larger woofer complements vs. the V2 CC result in a much better sound. I have to re-calibrate my system yet, and I anticipate changing my receivers crossover point for the center speaker due to the deeper bass end.
For the satellites in my 7.1 system I am using six of the original Mirage Omnisat speakers, and the OMD C1 definitely matches well with those acoustically. At the prices Vanns sells the OMD 5 speakers for, I might just replace the other six, but I would have to justify this expense to my wife, and I simply cant do so.
This speaker is GORGEOUS and is a monster compared with the V2 CC I was previously using. It looks much better than my silver V2 CC, at least in terms of matching my entertainment stand and LCD TV. The irony is, I spent 25 less on this speaker than I did on my V2 CC 4 years ago, which is sad. However, I would never go back, and IMHO, any Mirage purchase is a wise purchase. And I must say that I LOVE the old Mirage logo that this center channel sports, compared with the newer logo found on the OS3 series speakers, for example.
If you are on the fence, pull the trigger. The value is outstanding at the current price. No regrets on my end!

Mirage OMD Product Quality -- One of the best audio packages for their finish and assembly. The piano black was fantastic, binding all tight, etc.....
Mirage Sound Quality -- After letting the system break in for 145 hours at 25 volume, it was amazing how they came alive hour after hour. The clarity and presence are what sold me when I heard them in a local AV boutique. The OMD series of speakers are true reference quality. And the two S-10 subs hit clean and hard, the THX Blue Ray movies sound great.
After setting up the home theater I ordered another system for the upstairs system. I was going to go with a Paradigm HT package, but honestly believe the Mirage system sounds as good if not better at more reasonable cost. The bottom line is that Mirage and Vanns rock!
Packing of Speakers -- Mirage did it right, they were packaged so well that these could have been tossed off the truck with no damage to the product.

The high gloss black finish of this unit has a very professional grabbing style and the sound that complements our high 20 ceilings. My wife can actually understand what is being said. The Crisp dialogue is unsurpassed in clarity. Have read that you need 60-100 hours to break in but this sounded wonderful out of the box from the start.
The Dual 5.5-inch woofers, 4-inch midrange and 1-inch Tweeters give this speaker some oomph versus the tinny sound you get from some units on the market. We have this paired using our Dennon 71 amptuner and OS3-Sat speakers which fill the room from all directions. This is the one thing that I did notice different than the 601 Bose that I use to have is that these give you clarity throughout the room not just the direction that the speaker is pointing. I would highly recommend these speakers to anyone that is looking to upgrade to a Theater quality experience.

The finish of this product in gloss black is simply amazing. The omnipolar arrangement of the drivers allow for a more immersive center experience, with easy positioning of the speaker without requiring center audio delay adjustments for bringing the sweet spot to the center of the monitor, as it is often necessary with conventional directional speakers. I adjusted the center volume 3 dB up to match the volume of my directional left and right main speakers at my listening position, and I am as happy as can be. If you are planning to install your center speaker in an enclosed shelf, this is not the speaker for you. Use a directional acoustic suspension or front bass-reflex-ported center channel speaker instead. This one is perfect for sitting on top of furniture under the monitor, or wall-mounting bellow or above the monitor.

The instructions said to give it about 100 hrs of break-in and this was echoed in most of the reviews I read. To speed the process along I put my cable box on a music station and ran it all night for a week. I now have about 125 hrs on the speaker and it has really opened up. Highs are nice and clear and the lows are really good. I male voice has weight to it that I wasnt getting from my previous center. I also have notices that the volume doesnt have to be as loud to hear and understand dialogue. Im very happy with my purchase and cant wait to get the matching OMD5s. Recommended!!

The build is exceptional and the gloss black look is stunning with the titaniumpoly speakers and the grill removed Sound is excellent and is expected to get even better as I only have about 50 hours on the C1 speaker and Mirage recommends 100 hour breakin period. Precise, not too bright highs, and nice and tight lows. Using an Onkyo TX-NR808 receiver to power them and no issues with power requirements for the speaker. Have the center paired with some 20 plus year old Sony Towers and they match the timber well, but I will be ordering the OMD-15s and OMD-5s to complete the 7.1 setup.

Either I am over critical, or most speaker reviews are too much on the positive sides. My experience with this center channel speaker from mirage ended in disappointment.
I bought one after reading the reviews and had good but not over-optimistic expectation, but I found it just average after taking my time breaking it in. The sound is boxy, lacking in both the lower end and high end. Tenor voice is very chesty. The sound although is smooth, but is dry and is over laid-back, severely lacking in overtones. In my honest opinion, it is just a so so performer, and its price at deep discount reflects its right value. Do not expect an audiophile grade speaker when you buy this, otherwise you will be disappointed.

I have this paired with two OMD 5s for L&R along with two nanosats for rears. Compared to the OMD5s, this center is a monster. Centers provide roughly 60 of all movie sound and you want quality. This was originally a $750 center channel. In my opinion, this would be a reasonable buy at that price, but pretty steep. At the current price, its a STEAL.
Sound quality is something only found from the highest end of audio equipment. Its clean, crisp and despite some people opinion, I find it not overly bright at all and accurate as they get.

I purchased this along with a pair of the OMD-15 towers and a pair of the OMD-5s for surrounds.
Buildconstruction quality is first rate. I got the piano black version and it is gorgeous.
Sound quality extremely clear, crisp and clean. It tends to be a little on the bright side which you can tone down if you want by adjusting the tilt angle. However, I think that works very well since it makes dialog so clear. Also, unlike other center channels I have used, there is no trace of a boxy quality. The sound is precise and remains clear no matter where in the room you are.
One warning - be very careful with the tweeter assembly, especially when removing the grill. I accidentally put a dent in the tweeter, which I had to pull out using scotch tape. Mirage support told me as long as the tweeter wasnt torn it was okay, but even though the sound doesnt seem to be affected, it still bothers me that the tweeter still has a few little dimples in it that I couldnt pull out.
Overall, this is an excellent center channel at a really nice price from Vanns. If you are on the fence about purchasing this, just do it. It is well worth the price and more.

I purchased this center channel to replace the tiny CC Mirage center channel I had been using.
I am very impressed. The voices in my programs now jump out at us, and the overall enjoyment we get from watching movies or television has definitely increased.
I previously have had a B&W center channel, and in my other room I have a Paradigm CC-290. The Mirage definitely compares favorably with both and may be the best center channel I have had when it comes to watching television.

Much like a lot of the other reviews listed for the OMD Series, when you open the box on these speakers the first words out of your mouth are WOW. They are like holding a crown jewel. The look of the OMD C-1 is something to behold. Now to the sound--The Mirage Omnipolar design, especially on the center channel, has definite benefits vs direct radiating speakers. With the woofer, midrange, and tweeter elements angled upwards the sound is directed up in front of the screen and then dispersed out to give the illusion of voices actually coming out of the TV picture. This is quite effective for the dialogue that center channels handle. The sound is crystal clear with excellent range throughout. The low end is solid with crisp mids and highs, Already have the OMD 5s and with the summer sale going on, will be looking to get the OMD 15s soon. You wont be disappointed with this speaker line!! The only regret is I ordered the OMDC-1 two days before the summer sale started.......could have gotten the C-1 for an even better price, oh well, you still cant beat Vanns pricing and quality service. All your elecronic purchases should be through Vanns they cannot be beat!

First let me say what a great company Vanns is to order from. When I ordered this they helped make sure my order was processed right away so it could make the FedEx truck that day. The product arrived in great time and I hooked it up right away.
I have Mirage speakers all over the house and this was part of my theater set up using the OMD-15s up front and this one as the center. My sides and rears re all Mirage Omnisats and my subwoofer is the 10 Mirage. The sound is amazing and way better than my previous center channel.
One other note, shortly after buying these Vanns adjusted the price down. All it took was a quick call to customer service and a price adjustment was headed my way. Way to go Vanns!!!

Combined with my all Omni speakers, driven by a big Denon 7.1 receiver, the OMDC1 works perfectly. Previously I had an older Mirage for center, and often I'd be straining to hear the dialog. This unit shines in that respect. If you think about it, the center speaker is probably the most important for clarity, as almost all the dialog is there. Great build quality, sweet sound. Ive had this for over 2 years now and it always delivers! And as always, Vanns is the place to order from, a great company!

The dialog coming through is crisp and clear, and the Rosewood speaker is beautiful to look at as well. Only minor issue is that I think the speaker was older so the rubber on the negative speaker terminal broke off. Nonetheless the sound is fantastic so no issues there.

Purchased this center speaker along with 2 OMD15 floorstanders. Ive owned quite a few centers over the years and the Mirage OMDC1 is by FAR the best center Ive heard! Most centers are a 2-way design, but the C1 is a true 3-way with a dedicated midrange. Clarity of voice and dialog is exceptional. Clear and crisp but warm also. Not harsh, and trebly like some centers can be. Being an omnipolar speaker, it feels like you are surrounded by sound. The effect is that the soundstage is widened and deepened due to the speakers reflecting off the walls, ceiling, and bounderies of the room. Dialog is still tied to the screen though. Build quality is exceptional and Vanns price is the best available. Amazing speaker! Highly recommended. You will not be dissapointed.

I just received these the 5.1 Mirage OMD set and they look absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, as I am in the military, I am about to move to the West Coast and will then be immediately deploying overseas. As a result, all I had time to do for now was open the boxes, visually inspect them and then put them back in the box for shipping out West, where they will have to wait until I return from overseas to put them through the motions. As a result I cannot comment on their sound quality right now, which is what matters most -- however, they have received very favorable profesional reviews, so there should not be any surprises. As far as aesthetics and build quality go, these are phenomenal speakers. They are very attractive speakers, solidly built, quality gold plated binding posts and beautiful high gloss rosewood veneer. Personally I think they look much better with the grills off. A friend of mine was over and he also praised their looks. Vanns customer service was great. The speakers arrived promptly after ordering, were well packaged, and without any visual signs of damage. When I am able I will put them through the motions and write an addendum to this review. Highly recommended.

First, a note about Vanns excellent packing. Instead of just putting a shipping label on the Mirage box, which may have been OK, they packed the Mirage box in another new box that's about 4 times the volume of the Mirage box. Other online retailers I've used recently do an OK to unacceptable job of packing.
The OMD-C1 produces a very clear and full sound. This is our first center channel speaker, but compared with others I've heard, the dialog is much easier to understand, and is crisp.
We have it in a fairly big room, it fills it well. It may seem contradictory, but when we listen at 8 feet, it sounds like the dialog is coming from the screen, like other home theaters. At 20 feet, the dialog sounds like there is a real person in the room talking, its kind of spooky.
I would normally never buy a speaker without listening to it. We already had OMD speakers, so we didnt have doubts. And once you've heard omnipolar, theres no going back.

After several weeks of research and listening to different home theater systems at BestBuy, Bose outlets, MyerEmco and other local stores, I bought 4 OMD5 rosewood speakers and 1 OMD-C1 center speaker as a bundle package from Vanns 3 weeks ago at a discounted price. I also have bought a Mirage-OMNI S10 10 sub-woofer on eBay for $335 and put them together as 5.1 home theater system in my huge, 22x18 family room. They sound amazing and I am so impressed with the sound quality and precision. The speakers in rosewood color look and feel very rich and elegant. I have set it up to a Sony-DN1000 AV receiver using 16 guage speaker cable wires and also connected my Sony Blu-ray player with a HDMI cable. In my opinion, this system sounds either same or better than those expensive Floor-standing speakers. These Mirage speakers at 60Hz-20kHz and the 41 lb OMNI S10 sub-woofer at 21Hz-120Hz have excellent frequency responses and so I setup my cross-over at 80Hz, which gets me great theater, life-like performance.
The customer service provided by Vanns.com before and after the purchase is excellent and I strongly recommend buying any items on the site.

I have this as a cetner and OMD-5s all the way around and have had them for a few weeks now and love them. They replaced a Polk 5.1 set up that consisted of floorstanding fronts with matched center and rears and a sub with dual 10 woofer. The whole set had dual 6.5 drivers and 1 titanium tweeters with a 2 mid.
These OMDs present a much larger soundstage and are a bit more musical. I am thrilled with these speakers. Listen to Dave Matthews Live at Radio City Music Hall in DTS-HD and you will be converted, It sounds like you are in the 2nd row.
I never had a better center channel (June 09, 2009)

I have owned atleast 10 different center channels in my lifetime, even 3 others from Mirage, and I have to say this is absolutely the best center channel I have ever owned. The precision and the natural flow of the voices that come from it are just astonishing. I initially bought another Mirage center from Vanns until I saw this one on sale, and I immediately exchanged the other one for this one, and I am glad I made the decision. Take it from me, on personal experience, you will not find a better center channel for the money. hope to have years of pleasure from this center.
