The low-frequency bass output from a subwoofer is the foundation of your home audio experience. In turn, a single, front-firing 12" Cerametallic&trade cone driver and 800W BASH® digital hybrid amplifier are the foundation of your Reference Series RT-12d's bass performance. The Cerametallic&trade cone is lightweight with a high rigidity level that dramatically reduces resonance. With 800W of continuous output and 2000W of dynamic output, the BASH amplifier designed into the RT-12d is capable of delivering seriously powerful, seriously big bass. No third eyes around here — Passive radiation

More than just an attractive addition to you living room's decor, the cabinet enclosure on your new Klipsch RT-12d is a part of the bass-enhancing system. Loudspeaker enclosures are designed as an integral part of any driver's ability to deliver powerful, accurate sound. The cabinet serves, primarily, to prevent out-of-phase (or out-of-sync) sound waves that are emitted at the rear of the speaker from combining and interfering with the in-phase sound waves coming from the front of the speaker. Cabinet designs can, however, also serve to enhance a speaker's performance. Within the category of loudspeaker enclosures, there are three principle classes — closed-box cabinets, bass-reflex cabinets, and passive radiator cabinets. While closed box cabinets are really only advantageous for reproducing the lowest of low frequencies, bass-reflex and passive radiator cabinets take advantage of the movement of air at the speaker's rear — movement that might otherwise cause interference — to extend the frequency-response range of the speaker. By housing its 12" driver — backed by 800W of output power — in a cabinet enclosure featuring dual 12" passive radiators, Klipsch has equipped your RT-12d with the ability to deliver accurate, clean, rumbling bass.

The "delta" shape means alpha performance

Of any loudspeaker type, subwoofers perform best when they can interact with the layout of your listening area. Low-frequency sound waves have a long wavelength, and consequently they are less easily localized by the human ear and less directional. This has two implications. First, you have greater freedom in choosing a place in your room for a sub because the output will be heard the same just about everywhere. Second, the design of your room — i.e. walls, location of furniture like couches, tables and bookshelves — can be used to direct or "focus" low-frequency audio for improved impact. Thanks to its triangle-shaped design, the RT-12d allows you to take advantage of each of these phenomena. First, the "delta" shape makes it easy to place the RT-12d in the corner where it is both out of sight and out of the way. Second, because each passive radiator is placed on a different "rear" side of the triangle enclosure, you are able to use two walls to enhance directionality.

Through proprietary DCS&trade technology, the RT-12d gives you more control and flexibility with different source material. The DCS digital user interface offers quick and easy adjustment of all functions, including three equalization modes (flat, depth and punch) and five user-adjustable presets (music, movie, night and two name-your-own settings) to create customized listening preferences. The DCS interface is located on the top panel of the sub.
