Your Ears Will Thank You, So Will The Little Hairs On The Back Of Your Neck |
The OMNI S12 subwoofer is the flagship model of Mirage's Omni line of subwoofers. The S12 features a 12-inch Titanium Deposit-Polypropylene Hybrid driver with Mirage's patented ribbed Elliptical Surround. This revolutionary technology enables it to play to the incredibly low frequency of 19Hz, below what humans can hear and into the region where you feel the bass. The OMNI S12 uses an FTC rated 1200 Watt dynamic / 300 Watt continuous RMS amplifier and a computer-designed cabinet to reach incredible sound pressure levels, at low frequencies. Aren't you glad these guys are designing your speakers? |
Elliptical Surround Technology |
Finally you can enjoy a subwoofer with top quality performance and near ZERO distortion. This is achieved through Mirage's patented Elliptical Surround Technology. With conventional woofers, outward and inward cone movement is never the same because the surround flexes differently as it moves. Another problem with conventional subwoofers is surround dimpling. Dimples that occur on normal subwoofers radiate in and out of phase, causing distortions at all listening levels. The more the cone moves, the more the surround dimples. With Elliptical Surround, cone movement in either direction is identical, resulting in no distortion. And, with Mirage's exclusive patented rib design, the ribs either expand or contract based on their position and the position of the cone. The expansion and contraction of the ribs eliminates any dimpling that can occur, thereby eliminating the distortion that dimpling creates. Mirage leads a huge leap forward in audio innovation, and you benefit. Cool, huh? |
And So... Bigger Boom, Smaller Box! |
Elliptical Surround allows for larger cone surface, resulting in greater efficiency when compared to conventional subwoofers. The Elliptical Surround design also allows for greater peak to peak movement. When compared to other subwoofers on the market, these newly-designed drivers travel more than double the distance of the competition. The combination of these attributes enables the OMNI S12 to move incredible amounts of air even with a smaller-sized woofer. This results in more output and efficiency, allowing it to play louder and deeper. Think 300 watts of continuous power. Think 1200 watts peak. |
Port Placement Is Important |
It's just a hole in the box, so who cares where it goes, right? Um, wrong. Downward-firing ports are nothing new, but the Omni S12 uses two of them. This effectively halves the speed of the airflow and greatly reduces turbulence-induced noise. The ports also use the floor for boundary reinforcement. Downward-firing ports were used because forward-firing ports gain little if any loading from room boundaries, and their "chuffing" is much more audible because they're pointed toward the listener. Rear ports minimize port noise, but there can be too much boundary reinforcement if the subwoofer is pushed up against a wall. On the bottom was the best choice. That's one well-thought-out hole, pal. |
Other Features |
Features common to the OMNI series include: level, frequency, and phase controls, all of which are located on the front panel of the subwoofer, making slight adjustments simple. Rear inputs include high and low level (including LFE) connections, as well as power mode selection, thereby increasing the installation and connection flexibility of all OMNI subwoofers. |
