This is achieved through Mirage's patented Low Distortion Loudspeaker Suspension. With conventional woofers, outward and inward voicecoil/cone movement (known as excursion) is never the same because the surround (where the voicecoil/cone are mounted) flexes differently as it moves. But because of the semi-elliptical shape of the Mirage surround, the voicecoil/cone movement in either direction is identical, resulting in no distortion. Another problem with conventional subwoofers is dimpling (distortion) of the surround. Since the dimples that can occur on ordinary subwoofers radiate both in and out of phase, distortion is introduced at all listening levels. Omni-Series subwoofers are virtually immune to surround dimples.

Shaking Up The Competition

The Omni-Series subwoofers' semi-elliptical surround allows for larger cone surface, resulting in greater efficiency when compared to conventional subwoofers. The semi-elliptical surround design also provides for greater peak-to-peak movement. Compared to other subwoofers on the market, these newly-designed drivers travel more than double the distance of the competition. All of these attributes combined enable the Omni-Series subwoofers to move incredible amounts of air, even with smaller-sized woofers. More air movement means more output and efficiency, which means Omni-Series subwoofers play louder and deeper.

The expansion and contraction of the ribs cancels any potential dimpling of the surround, eliminating the distortion that dimpling creates.
