Looks As Good As It Sounds
The HTB2 is the first subwoofer at this price level that you won't want to hide away out of sight. With an ultra-reliable, high efficiency, 250W class D amplifier powering a 250mm (10in.) driver with a matching auxiliary bass radiator, the radical HTB2 model subwoofer anchors the 3D sound image with stunningly realistic low frequency reproduction. The HTB2 will play loud and clean all day long. Whether you prefer to position it vertically or horizontally, the story's the same: an acoustically inert enclosure shaped to eliminate internal standing waves, extremely fast response and SmartBass "connect and go" versatility with simple bass boost and phase controls.
Subwoofer Drive Unit
The HTB2's drive unit consists of a heavy weight long-throw motor design with an aluminum Faraday ring for reduced distortion. It's magnetically shielded, so you don't have to worry about the subwoofer interfering with your other electronics. A four-layer copper coil providers higher power capacity, and the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) optimized coil and magnet design give a linear BL profile. Rear suspension and surround are FEA optimized as well, providing maximum linear excursion, resulting in reduced distortion. Finite Element Analysis is a design process where individual elements are computer-modeled for the most accurate solutions.
Electronic Components
The HTB2 boasts a highly efficient 250W class D amplifier. Thermal and overcurrent protection are built into the amp and power supply unit ensuring ultra reliable performance. A sophisticated limiter system prevents voltage overload and is optimized for maximum audio quality. Opto-coupled LED and light sensitive resistor senses overdrive and automatically limits this to prevent damage to the unit.
Auxiliary Bass Radiator
The 10" driver has a matching passive bass radiator. This configuration ensures that the surprisingly small enclosure reaches down to give astonishingly deep bass, and can deliver both awesome movie effects and subtle musicality, as needed. A balanced, symmetrical, and low-profile auxiliary bass radiator (ABR) is designed for more linear excursion and reduced distortion. The internally vented ABR air cavity results in less compliance damping, giving better low frequency performance.
SmartBase "Connect And Go"
The HTB2 includes the SmartBass "connect and go" features to help simplify setup. KEF's engineers have carefully designe HTB2 to be as simple and practical as possible; just connect it to the mains and your AV receiver to be assured of optimum performance without the hassle of "tweaking." Plus, this subwoofer offers flexible positioning. Depending on your space requirement or your visual preference, vertical or horizontal orientation is possible.
