Thrilling bass freedom |
Styled to match Infinity's Classia Series loudspeakers, the PSW310WBK powered subwoofer delivers the deep, realistic bass that's essential to the cinematic experience as well as live recordings. An internal amplifier pumps out 400 watts RMS (700 watts peak dynamic output) to the active 10-inch CMMD (Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm) driver while dual 10-inch CMMD passive raditors reinforce the bass response. And with Infinity's 2.4GHz technology, installation couldn't be easier. There's no need to run a subwoofer cable around the room. Just connect the included transmitter module to your A/V receiver, place the subwoofer where it works best in your room, and plug the speaker into a power outlet. This is what Infinity calls bass freedom. You'll call it thrilling. |
What's CMMD? |
CMMD technology means improved accuracy, dramatically reduced distortion, and incredibly lifelike sound. Working in collaboration with metallurgy specialists, the resourceful Infinity transducer engineers identified a special combination of materials that have ideal properities to reduce or dampen distorting vibrations. CMMDs are much stiffer than standard metal diaphragms, moving the natural resonances upwards in frequency. At the same time, CMMD cones have more damping than metal cones, making this an excellent cone material for all transducers: woofers, midranges, and tweeters. |
Reinventing sound reproduction |
Today, Infinity acoustic researchers are doing breakthrough work in the fields of transducer and system design. With new materials, new theories and new measurement methods, they are literally reinventing the concept of what a state-of-the-art sound-reproduction system should comprise. Loudspeaker systems should be neutral devices, converting electrical signals from power amplifiers into exact acoustical equivalents, adding and subtracting nothing. Art is in the music itself in the musical sounds from fine instruments. The task of the loudspeaker is to reproduce this art transparently, without changes. Infinity's objective is to build loudspakers that are as neutral as possible, so they accurately reproduce the subtle characteristics, timbres, and voices of musical instruments. |
Reducing resonance |
When designing a speaker, the main obstacle is to reduce the resonance or vibration that is naturally going to occur in any physical structure when sound waves encounter it. Much of speaker technology revolves around reducing vibrations and the resulting distortion within the speaker. For loudspeaker diaphragms (cones or domes), these resonances are the primary source of audible coloration. |
