I bought this for my wife for Christmas. She now loves it! We had to upgarde our router to get it to function on our home network but after that she has just had a blast. She loves reading her e-mail, likes the music, the photos are great, reading books is fun, and there are so many apps that make it even easier to use. Speaking of photos though...if you download from your computer, expect to have a lot of trouble getting rid of the many duplicates you didnt want. We also bought the applecare which has been very helpful, and likely will be!
All in all this was a great idea on my part for her gift! Josh at Vanns was great help with ordering

this has basically replaced my laptop when I travel. its light, 64 gigs gives me enough memory to load up on movies, books, music, photos, and all of my work documents. apps keep on rolling out which enhance the user experience. screen color is great, it would be better if the screen did not smudge so easily. a real winner...

Always been an anti-cult follower and so I've avoided Macs, iPod and iPhone in favor of other brands, however too many friends and coworkers raved about their iPad and so I broke down. 'This is just the most versatile electronic device with an interface that is so cool and easy to use. I've only scratched the surface with the App Store, but just amazed what developers can do on this platform. Not only is it great for Internet and email, but I get the Wall Street Journal every morning, have books loaded for reading, great way to view family photos, and have been fighting over time to play games on it.

I went to the a big box electronics store in Billings, MT to purchase a 64GB Wi-Fi iPad. They did not have this item in stock and so they recommended and directed me to the Vanns store almost across the street. Within minutes I was connected up with salesperson Ken Cole. Yes he had some in stock. Ken was very knowledgable about the product and had me off and running with my new iPad very quickly.
I have had Apple computers since 1995 and have always had good product and service. But this iPad is incredible in what it can do. It was so easy to get it up and running. I just plugged it into my 17inch MacBook Pro and did a complete Sync. That included adding in almost 4,000 pictures and 7,000 songs. I was not used to the touch screen concept but it is very, very easy to use. Very slick indeed! Just glide your finger across the screen or tap.
I stayed in a motel in Billings that night and was on the internet in the blink of an eye with the Wi-Fi. Ken said I would need to charge the battery before use but it worked fine right out of the box with the charger plugged in.
Over the past couple of weeks I have downloaded several Apps from the Apple store. The only one I paid for was Pages so that I could create documents on the go. The selection of free Apps is astounding. My favourite is the Google Mobile App which allows you to search the internet just by speaking what you want. How cool is that! The iPad comes with Maps installed and this is very neat as well. It asks you if you want to use your current location. Then if brings up a map of where you are with restaurants, hotels and other things shown on the map. Wow! There are many more Apps that you can download including some very good games and NewsSports sites. ABC News the Globe and Mail and the Score are three that I use regularly.
Im very pleased with my iPad. I ride my motorcycle around the country a lot and so the iPad will free up some much needed luggage space by leaving the MacBook at home. It should be able to do all the things I need while on my motorcycle jaunts. I sometimes wish I had bought the 3G Version so that it wouldnt matter whether there was Wi-Fi or not not now that I am home and using it around the house it will be just fine.
One of my goals with the iPad is to get my computer illiterate wife to get involved in the Internet, using Mail, Safari and other Apps. Think this will be easy enough for her to pick it up and start using it. A friend of mine said he was going to buy one for his parents who are in their 80s. He felt that it would be easy enough for the old folks to pick up and allow him to email them etc without the need to learn about computers. This might be a great consumer segment to aim at with the iPad.
Any shortcomings? Yes just one! It should come with a forward facing camera so that you could take occasional pictures but mostly so that you could use it on a video Skype call. Otherwise it has every thing I need.

The Ipad has revolutionized our lives. The possibilities with it are endless. We have had it for about a month and everyday we learn something new about it. Our laptop crashed and we were in the market to replace it. The Vanns associate which I believe ended up being the manager was very helpful. We were torn between the MacBook and the Ipad. He was extremely helpful in helping us consider reasons for and against each. All the while not being over salesman like. We ended up going with the Ipad for the versatility and for our purposes of mobility around the house for the Internet.
We are so happy with our decision of choosing the Ipad and our 5 year old is also extremely happy too. The apps are never-ending and a lot of them are free!! You cant go wrong without the Ipad and with Vanns service and knowledge.

Has some qurks. Video podcast program lets you watch a podcast, but then leaves you in the movie program, not the podcast list. A few other quirks like that. Hiopefully will be fixed in an os update.
