Take a giant step up to a stunning new world in digital sound, beyond your old CDs, (which used Pulse Code Modulation (PCM), where music signals are converted into digital data through sampling and represented as a bit number) to the new Super Audio Compact Discs (SACD), which use Direct Stream Digital (DSD) technology. Sony's stunning new DSD digital sound format dramatically increases and broadens the original wave form of music, which results in music reproduction that is remarkably pure and faithful to the original music. In addition to exceptional sound, the SACD/DSD format can accommodate more than four times the information of current CDs, allowing for more detail in full two-channel stereo sound and for even more stunning 5.1 (2-front, 2-rear surround, one center channel and a subwoofer) surround sound playback, which matches so well with surround sound home theater. A Provocative Collection |
With Sacred Love (released September 2003), Sting has never sounded in better voice and his songwriting skills remain in top form. Sting also has some fun continuing what he terms his modular approach to songs, with brief snippets of lyrics from older songs such as We'll Be Together and Walking In Your Footsteps reappearing. Sonically, the album is superb, engineered once again by Simon Osborne and co-produced by Sting and Kipper. Kipper's touches and influence can be heard throughout the album. Sacred Love is a vibrant, sensuous and provocative collection of songs and a clear demonstration that Sting is at the height of his powers. |
Uniquely Sting |
The theme of this Sting album is there to see in its title, Sacred Love. Every song deals with love, religion or relationships in one form or another. People hide themseleves away from love (Inside), run away from failing relationships (Never Coming Home), are prisoners of love (Stolen Car (Take Me Dancing)), can't put the past behind them (Forget About The Future) or are so deeply in love that it's almost a religious experience whenever they're together (Whenever I Say Your Name). Sting burnishes one of Shakespeare's love sonnets in the Stevie Wonder-ish Like A Beautiful Smile and draws on the not always pleasant memories triggered by the experience of writing his autobiography in the atmospheric The Book of My Life and Dead Man's Rope. You may think there's nothing surprising about Sting writing love songs or being influenced by Shakespeare, but just wait until you listen to the furious guitar-laden protest rock of This War. It's an amazing track that jolts you like an electric shock. |
Hybrid SACD |
A Hybrid SACD contains two separate layers. One layer carries the normal CD information and the other layer contains the high density SACD information -- a multichannel mix and stereo mix. This Hybrid SACD can be played on any CD compatible player. However, if played on a standard CD player, only the CD layer will play. The SACD layer can only be played on an SACD player. |
