I purchased 2 MP HTUPS 2700 Home theatre UPS units because I just purchased 2 new LED TVs. I received the product from Vanns extremely quick and as advertised.
Now to the UPS unit... the unit is heavy and feels like it was put together and built with quality parts. The design is nice and thin and only measures at approx 17 wide so it fit in narrow spaces within my entertainment center. For the geek in me there is a schematic diagram of the internal circuitry on the top of the unit. The unit also does extremely well with heat dissipation. The 8-segment LED screen informs you of the actual voltage received from the wall receptacle outlet. It also performs well through small surges and tests of unplugging the unit. No damage or voltage loss was seen during either scenario.
The Monster product itself has a few disappointing features. The first is there are only 2 constant power outlets on the back. The other 4 outlets are switched and non-switched outlets which their product booklet does not have any information on their interpretation of the label. So unless you look it up online or ask Monster customer service you will not know the difference and Im trying not to nerd up this review. With the newer digital receivers and equipment provided plugging the coax, cat 5 or telephone wire into the equipment you may get signal errors I would not cast full blame on the surge protection of this product, its just an inconvenience. The final downside is the noise, while not as loud as a normal UPS during a power outtage this UPS is not as quite as I would expect. Maybe I have a convoluted expectation for a quite UPS but considering home theatre UPS are much more expensive than a typical computer UPS I would think it would be close to silent with maybe only the fan kicking on and producing the only bit of audible noise. I am no expert on DC backup systems so who knows, maybe this cannot be averted... just my opinion.
LAST, Please read this if nothing else please not the power sonsumption of your equipment. My TV uses 280W and the DVR uses 27W. The nominal value Monster gives is VA which does not take into consideration the power factor. In short VA does NOT equal W. At 307W the UPS will hold backup power and keep the TV and DVR only for a little more than 3 minutes. To get the advertised hour out of the UPS the DVR and maybe your cable box if they are separate units might be able to keep energized for that long of a duration. Do not expect to watch TV for an hour. The hour indication may also beoffered if you buy the extrnal battery pack... again not much test data or written information on how to reach a backup duration of an hour.
The 5 on value is purely for purchasing through Vanns.com
