The HTUPS 3700 from Monster may be the most important piece of equipment in your home theater setup. Why? With Tri-Mode power protection and Advanced Monster T2 technology, this PowerCenter will protect your equipment from sudden surges that can sear your circuitry. And unlike other surge protection devices, this one isn't designed to sacrifice itself to save your connected components; instead it disconnects from the power source before being damaged so you can count on it for years of trouble-free protection. If the power does go out, this PowerCenter is equipped with a battery backup to keep your essential devices running. This is great for DVRs, devices that need a fan to cool properly after shutting down (like projection TVs), or devices you want to preserve the settings on. In addition to keeping your home theater components safe from major surges, the HTUPS 3700 uses Automatic Voltage Regulation in conjustion with HD Clean Power Stage 3 filtering to provide your devices with a clean, steady supply of power. This filtering can extend the life of your electronics by an impressive amount. Even more impressive is the fact that this Monster PowerCenter will not only facilitate the protection of all of your devices' power cords, but your data lines too. A full array of status lights including a voltage/battery life display keep you informed as to the status of your system, while an RS-232C port allows you to control the HTUPS 3700 remotely. Even more impressive is what Monster calls GreenPower. This option allows you to plug in a device like your HDTV or AV receiver to a "Master" outlet, and plug in up to three dependent components like your Blu-ray player player or game console. With GreenPower on, when you turn off the master component, power will be cut to the dependent devices so you don't waste power while they sit in standby mode. And it's all backed by a five year warranty (2 years on the battery) with a 5-year limited warranty to cover any connected equipment. This unit offers true voltage regulation via battery. There are plenty of power options to customize each bank of outlets. The manual is a little vauge, but workable. THERE IS NO USB COMMUNICATION port or software to automatically shut down components before battery back-up runs out. The countdown display is great , but you must physically be there to softly shutdown a media server. The big wiring diagram silkscreened on top of the unit is kind of an eye soar, but if the unit is installed in a rack brackets included or other components sit on top, no big deal. The green power monitoring outlet is a nice touch. I like seeing the amount of power being used, kind of an eye opener to vampire standby power. This is currently one of the only UPS units that has a power and USB outlet in front. Not a big deal until you need it. Overall the unit has performed well and meets my needs. Monster needs to add USB communications and the unit will be a 10.
