I purchased this product to protect a recently purchased stereo system. I have invested in a high-end stereo system that I want to protect electronically. My spouse has inquired about the function of the J10 and the easiest way to explain is to scroll through the menu of items that are being monitored. The most noticeable affect is the voltage regulator correction performed by the J10. My house voltage usually runs around 115v and the J10 corrects it to 125v, which is displayed. I am also benefitting from line noise filtering EMI and RF, which is a LED notification. I purchased the silver case because of the huge price difference between the silver housing and the black. Both units are identical except for the color. The silver J10 is a bargain! My stereo normally runs between 100 watts to 130 watts of output, which leaves plenty of capacity for additional components in the future. The factory labeled receptacles make it easy to stay organized.

I couldn't be happier with this purchase. My sons will be playing XBox, and the power will go out. Not only are they annoyed they lost their game progress, but I was worried about the electronics. The power will be out for just half a second with no storms around, but enough to shut everything down hard, which is terrible for electronics. I was looking for just a regular computer UPS hoping it would be enough when I came across this amazing deal on the J10 that is made just for home theater equipment. Vanns price was incredible with free shipping to boot! The unit was at my door in 3 days, again, amazed! Installation was a snap, and sure enough, a few days later there was a half a second power bump while my boys were playing their game, and everything stayed up without a single glitch. I was hoping the backup would be strong enough to hold my plasma, XBox, and Receiver for 5 minutes so I could have time to power it down, but this is showing it will hold it for 12 minutes, so it is plenty strong.
I seriously couldn't be happier with this purchase. It is such amazing peace of mind for such a low price.
The unit is big. Make sure you have room for it, but if you do, get it!

This device works very well and is especially useful to those of us who live in areas with frequent brownouts. I did have to contact APC as my unit was cycling on its own at night, but after lowering the sensitivity of the device so that it would switch to battery after a slightly longer period of time, the problem was resolved. Power conditioning appears to be good, and APC makes excellent products.

I purchased Qty 2 APC J10s from Vanns a few weeks ago... these units are awesome! I immediately got to test both of the units as I lost power during multiple violent thunderstorms that hit the northeast over the last several weeks. The J10s did a terrific job of protecting my two Flat screen TVs one is Plasma, the other is LCD. The setup on these units is simple and they are VERY high quality. I'm very pleased with this purchase and with Vanns for shipping them out so quickly. These units are a steal at $150 a piece, don't hesitate!
What I like
- Easy set up
- Great info on the display
- Ability to shut off the alarms in event of power outage you don't need a UPS waking you up at night
- Quality of this unit Built like a tank, much better then past UPSs I've purchased from other companies.
- Excellent design the batter is easy to get to, plugs are well space and ample, also protects Ethernet, Cable TV and Satellite.
- Good Documentation
>What I don't like Nothing so far!

The unit runs similar to any IT-type UPS I have seen from APC. The inverter makes a noticeable buzz, but that is expected when the unit is on battery power, and I didnt buy it to run my theater equipment while I was listening to music anyway. It will run my projector through short outages, and has enough capacity to let the PJ shut down properly to protect its bulb. It also allows my Media Center PC to stay up during smaller outages. This keeps my raid5 array from needing verification nearly as often.

I was in the market for a power conditioner for my home theater system and came across the APC J10 model. I use APC products at work for a data center and they have performed flawlessly, so I wasnt hesitant at all to give them a try in my home. Not only does the J10 power condition, it also has AVR Active Voltage Regulation which is essential to keeping a steady flow of voltage to your equipment, and Battery Backup. All these features combined is worth it. One night I was watching a movie and the power flickered for no apparent reason. There was no storm outside or anything, the lights in my house just flickered the battery immediately kicked in for a split second and then shut off when the power came back on. I was amazed at how quickly the APC unit reacted. I couldnt praise APC any more than I can now for such an outstanding product.
I have 300W loaded on the battery which is good for 15 minutes of battery backup time. That is more than enough time for me to shut off all my electronics in the event of a blackout.
The components I have connected to it are
47 LG LED LCD TV
Yamaha RX-V667
Samsung Blu-Ray Player
BIC F12 Subwoofer
Logitech Harmony One Remote Base Charger
Pros
- AVR
- Battery Backup
- Powerchute software is fantastic showing you power consumption usage, cost over time, history of power events, etc...You can set it to shutdown your HTPC correctly when the battery kicks in saving you from hard shutdown and possible software failure.
- APC quality
- Easy to use menu on front LCD panel, LED and LCD front panel can be dimmed or shut off completely
- Quite large for an average home theater setup. The unit measures 18 in depth, which is slightly longer than my home theater rack shelf so it sticks out a bit, but I knew this when I bought it since I measured is before-hand. Maybe APC will design a future product that is more compact for those with space limitations.
- Front panel power button LED light cant be shut off so it is bright at night when everything else is shut off.
- At 44lbs, make sure you have a TV standrack that can support its weight
I would not hesitate to buy another one of these. If the size and weight of the battery backup is not an issue, go ahead and get this, you will not be disappointed.

For the price of a standard computer UPS with no voltage regulation line conditioning you can have a well built component that integrates seamlessly into your home theater.
Just having a place to consolidate all of your power connections is almost worth the price alone.
Our household voltage is consistently low at 113-114 and drops below 110 under heavy use. Under heavy loads the J10 switches to battery power and allows all components to continue operation uninterrupted.
As for the sine vs stepped-sine approximation debate, I have not encountered a situation where a device would not run using a stepped sine wave UPS on battery power. Ive tested an AVR TV HTPC XBOX 360.

Second, the J10 is a dream! Its a well built unit with plenty of receptacles capable of protecting and providing much needed backup power to safely power down state of the art electronics in todays home theater systems... This unit was recommended to me by a friend who currently has an earlier model protecting over 10K of electronics without fail... I will definitely recommend both Vanns and APC to all my friends...

My reason for purchasing the J10 is because my entertainment center was hit my lighting. It took out my Onkyo 605 amplifier and a Klipsch Sub12 even though they were plugged into what I thought was a good surge suppresser. I have several computers on battery backups and have never had any hit by lighting. This will also give me the ability to turn off my projector in the event of a power outage. I have a new Onkyo 608, a LG BD390, an Epson 8100 projector, and a repaired Klipsch Sub12 plugged into the APC J10. Combined they all draw 400 watts of power of the 600 watts available so I have a little growing room and 9 minutes of run time to see if the power will come back on and shut everything down if it doesn’t. As always Vanns price couldn’t be beat anywhere, the price I got this unit for was incredible. The customer service was first rate. I called with some questions and the lady I talked to was very polite and helpful. One of my questions she didn’t know the answer to so instead of miss informing me she went and found the answer. She went the extra distance to give me the information I needed to make an informed purchasing decision and I appreciate her effort. Just a word of warning this unit is big and very heavy, so plan where you will put it and if you need help picking it up. I had to cut a hole in the back of my entertainment center to fit it in which worked for me but may not for you.

I have owned the J10 for only about a week. The first thing I noticed is how big it is. It is very deep, almost 19. It is also very heavy, about 45 pounds.
The only features that I would like to see added are the ability to leave an outlet turned on with the unit off for a DVR, or I would like lower power consumption. When everything attached to the J10 is turned off, it still draws about 15 Watts, which isnt much, but it does add up.
Overall, a very solid unit, and I trust it to protect my TV. I even bought a second one for my parents.

I purchased this after my PureAV power conditioner failed. For this sale price you wont find anything that will compare. Trust me I looked. Now to be honest, dont expect this unit to run your entire home theater for very long. With a full system running you wont get much more than 10min run time. I have an older plasma so that drains this battery pretty quickly. New TVs run much more efficiently. You may hear many talk about the size and weight of this unit and you should listen. It is heavy like you might expect but it is also deep. Make sure you have the mounting depth available for this unit. Take the units depth and add at least three inches for your incoming power cords. It has an internal fan but it runs quiet or at least quiet enough for my DVR hard drive to drown out. The PC interface is a nice feature and it looks great with the other components. For the price, I strongly recommend it. I may buy a second to use for my networking equipment.

The APC power conditioner is also really good. it is a big boy, so do not expect to put it on a flimsy shelf held up by a couple of pegs. This needs to be on a supported shelf. The 12 outlets are plentiful, however, if you are like me you never have enough. Setup is a snap and the comfort that you have an APC product protecting your investments is amazing.

This is a nice piece of equipment that provides value and usefulness to your home theatre and also adds to the look and impressiveness of your setup. There are many competing thoughts on whether power conditioning is really all that important for most people, but I wanted to have a battery backup for my system anyway. This works quite well. I would probably not rate it so high though, except that the price was great. Since my main concern was battery backup, this unit is about the same price as other battery backups but comes with a lot more features and better interface. The setup is pretty simple. The only issue I have is that there is supposedly a screen saver option for the LCD readout screen which does not appear to be work, so I have had to just change the setting to turn off the screen display when not in use. Its not a big deal and I havent called support yet to figure out the solution, but it is a very minor annoyance.

I bought the J10 to replace an older APC 500 that could not meet the load of the home theater. After a week of use with the the J10, I am very happy with the performance.
Highlights
Excellent documentation. The unit comes with ample documentation and is easily assembled plug in battery, snap on face plate. The unit also comes with some additional interconnects to help with the wiring--which I thought was a nice touch.
Digital readout of load and battery reserve is very nice. With a 5.1 receiver driving 5 channels near reference level, powered sub, a TIVO, blu-ray player, and a projector all plugged into the unit, the load was around 400 watts which for my use is plenty of headroom to the 600 watts continuous or 1000 watts peak.
Well built The unit is solid and silent running.
Minor Cons
Unit size. Check the units depth to ensure it will fit your location. The weight is substaintual, so placement is critical. For me, the unit did not fit on the shelf I had reserved for it. I made it work but it is not optimal.
Main power button. This actually works as you can imagine push it and it turns everything off, but the problem I have is that I have a TiVo hooked up to it. I would like to be able to completely power down the system but leave one or two receptacles in the back hot. This does not appear to be a possibility.
Child lock-out. It would be good if the unit had a child lock out feature for the buttons. The blue-light illuminated buttons just beg little fingers to try them out.
Overall, the product is an excellent value and for my purpose has plenty of capacity. It is large and heavy, so check to ensure you have a stable place for its installation before buying.
