Powerful home theater
You've just dropped a pretty penny on a brand-new home theater system. We're talking the whole she-bang here: 55" HDTV, Blu-ray player, media server, multi-channel receiver, and 7.1-channel surround sound system. And chances are, you're planning on enjoying your new system for years to come. However, there's also a good chance that one of the most important components in any home theater system has gone over-looked — power. Every home-theater component requires electricity to operate, but your power supply can threaten both the quality of your entertainment experience and the integrity of your A/V devices. Not only do minor irregularities in a power current cause interference and distortion in audio and video signals, resulting in less-than-perfect listening and viewing, but major fluctuations in the power supply — i.e. power surges — can significantly damage or destroy your equipment. Combining innovative noise-filtration technology with advanced surge protection and battery backup, the folks at Panamax offer a powerful solution: the MX5102 power conditioner and uninterruptible power supply unit.
Cover me!
Hey, we could all use a little back-up now and again, and your A/V system's power supply is no exception. With average surge-protection units, the power is cut to all connected devices as soon as a power spike is detected. Now, in most circumstances this operation is satisfactory — by cutting the power supply, connected devices are protected against damage. However, some components can also be damaged by sudden power loss: a processor- or hard-drive-based media server might lose media or setup information; a satellite receiver may lose program information; and a DVR may stop recording. Recognizing this deficiency of most surge-protection units, the MX5102 includes a 2-outlet bank with battery backup. In the event of a power surge, incoming power will be cut to up to two connected devices, and battery power will seamlessly occupy power supply to the components, ensuring maintenance of important system data.
Stop surges dead in their tracks
Power irregularities like electrical surges damage home A/V devices when they come into contact with those devices' internal components. Preventing damage is as simple as stopping surges before they reach your components . . . as simple as the MX5102 from Panamax. Sporting Automatic Voltage Monitoring circuitry, the MX5102 brings your home theater an advanced level of power-surge protection. Automatic Voltage Monitoring (AVM) continuously monitors the incoming line voltage. As soon as a power irregularity is detected, AVM and Protect or Disconnect circuitry instantly and automatically disconnect your equipment from the power source, impeding any infiltration. Further, once AVM technology detects that the incoming voltage has returned to safe levels, it reconnects equipment to the power source. Achieve advanced protection for your investments.
Custom performance for your audio system
In the home theater repertoire, speakers have unique needs when it comes to the matter of power. While powered subwoofers have high power demands in relation to other home theater components, loudspeakers in general tend to respond more sensitively to power fluctuations, increasing their susceptibility to damage, even from minor, routine irregularities. As such, the MX5102 offers high-current capacity and sequential powering for select outlet banks. First, the two-outlet High Current bank is wired to effortlessly fuel components with high power demands, such as subwoofers and amplifiers. Second, both the High Current bank and the other 4-outlet switched bank sport sequential start up and shutdown operation. As it happens, when an audio system's amplifiers or subwoofers are powered on or off, small current rushes are generated. These "transient" currents can unintentionally "thump" speaker drivers, tripping product circuit breakers and even slowly damaging speaker components over time. Using sequential powering technology, the MX5102 is able to ensure that appropriate delays are inserted in the power chain of command during the start-up and shutdown of your system, minimizing rush currents and maintaining the performance and life of your audio equipment.
No matter the source
Now, surges don't just attack your devices by way of power cables. Power irregularities can enter and damage components via other connections like cable/satellite cables, telephone lines, and ethernet cables. Thanks to its diverse array of connections, the MX5102 protects a wide range of devices. Three coaxial input/output pairs protect cable and satellite boxes, a telephone jack protects your land line, and an RJ-45 LAN ethernet port guards an internet or home network connection.
Beyond protection
While power surges present a serious threat of damage to home A/V components, there's another home-theater enemy, one that preys on your system's level of performance. As you might imagine, all home A/V components use electricity to operate, both in the form of power input and as audio and video signals. Unfortunately, the electricity that enters your home often has some degree of "noise", or interference. Accordingly, when that electricity is used to power your home theater, its natural interference disrupts A/V signal quality, possibly causing a loss of overall detail in audio or video signals. Ensuring that your home theater experience is fueled by clean, low-noise power, the MX5102 offers a variety of premium noise filtration technologies — including EMI/RFI Noise Filtration and Linear Filterig Technology — removing electrical interference and helping to deliver high-fidelity audio and video signals. As an added measure, the MX5102's ten AC outlets are divided into four isolated, independent banks, eliminating cross-interference within the unit itself.
