Cast Off Your Electric Chains |
For many years, wireless technology was something that was, at best, a work in progress. But, technology developed, and brick-sized cell phones shrunk to just millimeters thin, portable music became mainstream, and laptops, commonplace. Apple took that idea and applied it to the computers they built. They felt that peole shouldn' t be confined to a single spot while working (or playing). For years, they have been among the leaders in laptops and portable music technology. Now, they're bringing that idea to the desktop. Apple's new wireless keyboard connects to your Mac (v. 10.4.10 or later) via Bluetooth, giving you the freedom to move. It has a range of up to 33 feet, so you can work from across the room just as easily as you can from your desk. This means that, you can pick up your keyboard and walk across the room for a drink, a more comfortable seat, or simply to stretch your legs without stopping your work. This idea has been used before, although not heavily, because picking up a keyboard the size of a small pillow was not a fun thought. Now, Apple has refined that idea into a razor-thin artform, making it convenient to move around while surfing the web, chatting with friends, or typing reports. So get rid of your electric chains, pick up your keyboard, and move freely. |
Isn't It Cute? |
The tiny Apple wireless keyboard definitely inherited some of its looks from its ancestors. The keys bear a striking resemblance to those of a MacBook. The anodized aluminum is the same style used for MacBook Pros and other Mac computers. The difference, though, is the wireless keyboard's size. This Apple is conveniently dwarfed by its forebearers. The keyboard is only an inch and a half thick, and roughly only 12" wide by 6" tall, weighing in at a whopping 1.5 lbs. This small size makes it quite handy to carry around, which is great considering it's wireless. The Mac styling cues ensure it looks good with any Mac computer, and with virtually anything around it. Together, the Apple wireless keyboard's small size and traditional looks make it a great partner for any capable Mac, and even a wireless mighty mouse. |
Easy On Batteries |
When designing a wireless keyboard, one essential idea to think about is the power source. Apple didn't overlook that when designing their wireless keyboard. The Apple MB167LL, as it is referred to formally, was designed not to be wasteful. It includes intelligent power management which turns off the keyboard while it's not being used, and then turns it back on when you begin typing. This means the three included AA batteries it runs on will last you quite a while. With the new Apple Wireless Keyboard, you don't have to stockpile batteries like its Y2K any more. |
