| For years, Microsoft Office has been the uncontested champion in work applications. But now, Apple's got an answer. To start, Apple decided not to attempt to replace Office. With only about 15% of all computers being Macs, this would be a battle they couldn't win. So instead of creating applications to rival Office, Mac designed a set of applications to work with Office. After all, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, then beat 'em, right? iWork '08 brings the functionality of Office's top 3 programs: Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Products similar to the other two basic Office applications are available at no charge to Mac owners (iCal, Mail, Address Book, Messenger, Adium, or other Instant Messaging applications). Apple manages to maintain the familiarity of Office while combining it with typical Mac convenience. There are numerous time-saving changes to this software not available in Office, as well as many additional features and functions. But, since Office is the universal document language in the world of work, you can effortlessly import and export any Word, Excel, or Powerpoint documents to/from Pages, Numbers, and Keynote (respectively). So, you can receive a Word document from a colleague, quickly add flare to it in Pages, and send it back with a ".doc" extension. Your associate will be amazed at what you could get Word to do in such a short time. Little do they know . . . Beyond Word processing |

| Maybe there's something in the water at Apple. Many of Apple's products seem to be very modest about their abilities. iPhone is a "cell phone", the super-powerful Mac Pro is a "desktop computer", and now Pages is a "word processing application." Sure, you can type in Pages, just like you can make calls with an iPhone, but the potentials for both extend much beyond their modest monikers. Some of the new features, such as the "track changes" function or the format mimic Pages' less refined cousin, Word, but as can be expected, Apple went one step farther by adding touches like easy-to-see color-coded changes, or a toolbar that changes to fit what you're doing. There are other areas where Mac simply outdid Word, such as with their smart automatic list formatting, the key difference being "smart," or on their templates. Then, there are other areas Pages added that Word simply has no answer for, such as its easy-to-use advanced graphics toolbox. Word also can't answer Pages' ability to switch between word processing and page layout, at least not by itself. In one application, Pages combines the powerful word processing of Word with the freedom of Publisher (only available on higher-end packages of Office) to create a convenient, powerful "word processor" that outperforms Word with a smaller price tag. But, you can also import or export Word files with Pages quickly and effortlessly. |

| There are some inventions throughout time that have made work much easier. The pulley, the wheel, and internal combustion engines are all good examples. Well, now there's Numbers. Sure you could always work in spreadsheets, just like you could always lift things without a pulley, but inventions like those make the work much easier and quicker. Numbers is the new spreadsheet application from Apple. It can both read and write in Microsoft Excel format, though. However, don't confuse the two. Mac maintains all the functionality and the familiar interface of Excel, but there are several distinct differences between the two. The biggest difference is this simplicity of Numbers. Its movable intelligent tables, interactive print view, flexible canvas, and easy-to-manipulate smart tables will save you hours versus performing the same functions in Excel. The difference is that, while maintaining the functionality of a typical spreadsheet, Numbers is a little more liberal with the freedom to manipulate documents. With Numbers, you can quickly drag and drop tables, pictures, text, graphs, or just about anything else anywhere in the document. All that, and its got great templates for whatever you need. The question is: "What will you do with all that extra time you would have spent working in Excel?" |

| Go from a creative idea to a finished project in minutes with Keynote. Rather than spending hours wrangling with PowerPoint in a hopeless attempt at formatting your slideshow, simply select from Apple's pre-designed, custom options to create a jaw-dropping presentation in no time. Keynote features easy-to-use, customizable transitions or text effects, as well as stunning A to B animations created in literally seconds. You can also remove unwanted backgrounds from photos with just a click and drag with instant alpha. Voice-over recording is another great feature which allows you to give an Oscar-deserving vocal performance without even being there for the presentation.
