When used in conjunction with the Philips TSU9200 remote control (sold separately), the RFX9200/37 combines RF and IR technology to allow you to control up to 4 IR-enabled A/V components placed out of sight of the remote control, as in a cabinet or closet.

Overcoming obstacles with RF technology

You've finally put the finishing touches on your new home theater system. With the HDTV mounted on the wall, a surroundbar or center-channel speaker mounted below it, and all of your A/V components tucked away in a cabinet or closet, you've achieved the clean, spacious, minimalist look of the modern home theater. There's just one problem: you use your remote control to command your home theater experience. Your remote uses infrared (IR) technology to transmit signals, but IR signals can't pass through cabinet or closet doors. Combine your new Philips TSU9200 remote control (sold separately) with the RFX9200/37 IR network extender, and you're ready to take control with the power of radio frequency (RF) technology, allowing seamless signal transmission even trough obstacles like doors or walls.

Now for . . . "How it all works"

Taking advantage of the installation potential of RF and IR technologies is all about "line of sight". Because the TSU9200 remote and the RFX9200/37 communicate using RF technology, you have the freedom to place your IR-enabled A/V components out of sight of the remote control. However, because your A/V components still only communicate using IR technology — which requires line-of-sight communication — you need some way of translating the remote's RF signal into an IR code. Enter the RFX9200/37. As long as this network extender is placed in line-of-sight with your components, you can place both your components and the RFX9200/37 anywhere you like with in the remote's RF range. And you have two options for ensuring seamless communication between the RFX9200/37 and your components. First, an IR blaster located on the RFX9200/37's front will communicate with up to four discrete components if placed facing the components' front panels where IR receivers are located. However, if you don't have enough space for this installation option, you can use the four included single-cable IR emitters. With their 9.8' length, it's easy to place the individual IR emitter ends in a place where they can communicate with individual components. The RFX9200/37 combines IR and RF technology for seamless, out-of-sight control of your home theater.
