Casting aside the old red-and-blue technology of yester-year, today's 3D HDTVs look to alternate-frame sequencing (AFS) to achieve a 3D effect. Working in perfect coordination with the left- and right-eye images flashing on a 3D HDTV, active shutter glasses alternately blacken-out their liquid-crystal lenses at ultra-high speeds, ensuring that each eye only sees its intended image on the TV. Plus keeping things neat and tidy, 3D active shutter glasses communicate wirelessly with transmitters built into the 3D HDTVs.

The TY-EW3D1OU 3D glasses are powered by a coin-shaped lithium battery, making the power cord obsolete. So, as long as you're within 10' 5" from your 3DTV, and you stay within 35° horizontal and 20° vertical of the front surface, you'll get the full HD 3D experience.
