No need for a moment of silence
We’ve gathered here today to celebrate the loss of bad headphone audio. It has plagued anyone who’s wanted to just enjoy their music on the go, introducing tinny sound, indistinct frequency ranges, and sound that might be more appropriate coming from a fast food loudspeaker. The Denon AHNC800 over-the-ear headphones use a 42mm neodymium magnet for a wide frequency response, while hybrid material housing keeps the headphones from coloring the sound. Plus a compressed sound enhancer built into the headphones restores frequencies lost to compressed music files during encoding.
You came for the music, not the ambience
Imagine for a moment, your favorite song. The melody as it moves along, lifting your spirits and honking like a flock of geese. Wait . . . let’s try that again. Imagine the bridge, the shift in the music that introduces the sound of a police siren and a backfiring car. Hard to imagine all that with all the extra noise involved, which is just how hard it is to enjoy it when you can hear everything else going on around you. The AHNC800 cuts down on extra noise by using two microphones that gather sound from not only outside the headphones, but also from inside the headphones and generate canceling signals for the two sources so that all you’re left with is the pure audio of your favorite music.
Feel good sound
Sound quality is great, but if you can’t wear them, how can you enjoy them? The hybrid material construction that creates resonance free sound also helps to make sure that it fits comfortably over your ears. The ear pads have been modeled in 3D, and contoured to make sure that it fits the head naturally. Combined with a soft protein leather material for the ear pads, you’ll be able to listen for hours without discomfort. Plus, an energy efficient design gives you up to 40 hours of continuous use on a single AAA battery.
Have case, will travel
Sound quality, comfort and noise reduction aren’t the only things that AHNC800 gives you. You’ve also got portability. When not in use, the headphones can be broken down to fit into a carrying case so that you can easily take them with you. Plus, two detachable connecting cables give you the option on how to listen. A shorter, 0.7m cable is short enough to connect to a portable mp3 player without excess cable, while a longer, 1.5m cable gives you the ability to connect inside an airplane or into home stereo equipment.
In the box
The following items come with your purchase of the Denon AHNC800: two connector cables (0.7m and 1.5m), conversion plug for aircraft use, AAA battery, carrying case, and the AHNC800 headphones.

Bought these open-box for about $180. Well worth it. They came in original packaging and in like new condition. Performance is top notch. They sound great especially with noise canceling on. Fortunately noise canceling does not have to be for them to work like a a lot of other brands do, which is great when I'm at work just listening to talk radio. They are also the most comfortable pair I've ever owned and they look cool. Overall, no complaints.

I purchased these mainly for use with my laptop at the public library to drown out ambient HVAC noise and the throngs of loud, rude people and their wild children. I long for the days when the library was a near sacred place, but I digress...
The sound and build quality of these headphones is excellent, though their passive noise reduction through the ear pads is virtually non-existent. Voices and the rustling of newspaper pages ten feet away will pass through easily unless the volume is cranked beyond healthy levels. If you are looking to totally disengage from the world while listening in a noisy environment, these will not do the trick.
My niece has a set of Sennheiser PXC-450s which nearly close out all external noise even before playing music. They will be my next set of cans.
The Denons come with short and long detachable cords, a nice carrying case, and are super comfortable for hours at a stretch. They look very nice, are designed well, and fold easily. It is a snap to install the battery and to flip the on & off switch.
I have not tried them on a flight yet, but they would probably do well in that environment.
I will be keeping them solely because I paid considerably less than retail as they were an open box item. Had I paid full price I would have sent them back and replaced them with the aforementioned Sennheisers which are priced similarly.

After purchasing a turntable made by Denon and experiencing the quality of the build and the performance of their engineering, I knew I needed to buy a pair of these. Before these, I had always bought Sony high definition headphones and trusted the name and the following to point my ears in the right direction. Then I bought these Denon headphones, they perform so well and have a different, truer live-performance feel to the listening experience. I have suggested these to many of my audiophile friends and hope you consider making the purchase.
