Once again Bose does it well, but does it at a price that most cannot afford.
The sound is great and the very small size of the desktop speakers are a big plus.
The speakers should not be placed more than 24 inches apart when lisitening to 5.1 thru the decoder.
Also the 5.1 decoder requires that the USB and not Aux in be used.
These are computer only 5.1 speakers but I can still use them as 2.1 on a TV that lacks a dedicated sound system.
Keep the subwoofer controller box at least 6 inches away from a computer HDD or the strong magnetic field can potentially wipe out your data.
The companion 5 sounds great for music alone. Is it worth the extra money if you are just going to use it for music andor as a spare 2.1 by using the Aux-in for a TV that lacks a dedicated sound system? The $399 price tag is high, so as a unit that is only capable of 5.1 on a computer I ahve some regrets with not looking around more before buying this. Perhaps it is Buyers remorse though...
Go listen to a few systems first and keep in mind that the companion 5 has a few quirks that would make it the best 5.1 computer system if the price was less was $300 or less----As long as the speakers are 24inches apart, the USB is used to connect it to your computer, and the Control unitsubwoofer is kept further than 6 inches away from any HDD or monitor.
Any 5.1 simulated system will have its quirks, but the small size combined with great sound of the companion 5 desktop speakers make it worth listening to if you are not into a wired 5.1 system, and want to keep desktop space free while having adequate space on the floor to place the Subwoofercomtrol unit.

I owned the smaller set of Bose computer speakers and I decided to upgrade to the Bose 5.1 Companion set and I sure am glad I did. These speakers are amazing. They are a little expensive but I got a instant rebate of $50 and they are well worth it. Huge sound in a little package

I have owned Onkyo, Denon, Bose, Paradigm, Energy and EPI speakers, but my favorite over the years has become Bose. I am writing about my latest purchase of the Bose Companion 5 multimedia speakers. I enjoy every musical note. We have a wide collection of music representing different times in our lives, I imagine like many of you. The sound reproduction is faithful to how we remember our favorite artists. It is for this reason, Bose Companion 5 are a perfect desktop speaker whose capabilities reach far beyond the desktop. The Bose audio signature brings the art of the musicians performance and delicately blends the science of technology into an articulate listening experience. I prefer the Bose brand because having been gifted a Bose Wave Radio in 1997, to this day it works seamlessly as the day I opened the gift. For me, I know what to expect with the Bose brand, their is an air of certainty with Bose sound exuding trust. My experience with Bose is long product reliability, I find this aspect to be most reassuring in this difficult economic climate. As a result, no buyers remorse here. I dont mind spending good money if I know it will grow old with me. The other aspect of Bose I like is that they dare to be different as a brand. They manufacture a sonic signature with their own blend of expertise and precision. While some of the competitors will place product in the marketplace that is best left turned off and looked upon favorably, Bose has stepped to the plate and given the buying public what we want. Great sound, reliable performance and pride in manufacturing competitive audio in the U.S. This matters to me and best defines my loyalty to Bose through the years.
Anyone, who is seasoned in life, somewhat beyond the campus scene someone who has transitioned from wanting their sound to only rock to listening to their music to add peace of mind at the end of a long day, will enjoy Bose Companion 5 speakers. Perhaps the most compelling reason to purchase any Bose product would be summed up in the word simple. It is simple to operate, simple to look at and simply works marvelously well.
If you are looking for a set of computer speakers for music therapy, I recommend Bose Companion 5 Speakers.

Eventhough they were a little pricey, I truly enjoy the sound quality from these speakers. They were extremely easy to set up to my PC. If you enjoy watching movies or listening to music on your PC, then these are the speakers for you. I have ordered many things from Vanns before, & I remain impressed with their service & fast shipping on all their orders. Thanks!
