Take your Blu-ray experience Live
Combining Blu-ray Disc media with the internet is kind of like combining chocolate and peanut butter — the result is nothing short of delicious. With its built-in BD-Live capability, the Onkyo DV-BD507 Blu-ray player takes your Blu-ray experience beyond HD video and audio. Simply connect the DV-BD507 to your pre-existing internet service via the player's built-in ethernet port, plug an SD memory card into the media slot, and instantly begin enjoying a diverse array of bonus features and materials. How diverse? With BD-Live functionality, you can watch deleted scenes, shorts, and trailers. You can participate in online gaming. You can even chat with other BD-Live users thanks to audio and video messaging capabilities. It's time to go live.
A whole new kind of blues
We're not talking about the kind of blues that get you all blubbery about long-lost loves. We're talking about a kind of blue that super-charges your home theater experience with high definition video and audio. While DVD technology uses a wide red laser to encode and read information on an optical disc, Blu-ray Disc technology uses a much narrower, blue-violet laser. Because the Blu-ray laser is so much finer than the DVD laser, it is able to encode significantly more information in the same space as DVD. And by "significantly more information" we mean five times as much! Consequently, Blu-ray Disc media are capable of storing both Full HD 1080p video and lossless, 7.1-channel studio-quality surround sound audio. And, guess what? There's still room left over for a variety of bonus materials like deleted scenes and director commentary. And thanks to its advanced HDMI output, the DV-BD507 lets you send both the HD video and audio to your receiver via a single cable. While the DV-BD507 outputs Full HD 1080p video, its bitstream 7.1-channel audio output must be sent to a Dolby TrueHD or dts-HD Master Audio-enabled receiver for full decoding.
DVD lives on!
Given Blu-ray Disc's Full HD video, studio-quality audio, and bonus materials, any reasonable person would expect a dismal future for DVD. Nothing could be further from the truth, however. Using integrated video-upscaling technology, the Onkyo DV-BD507 enhances standard definition DVD video to HD levels via HDMI, ideal for viewing on your HDTV. Your DVD collection lives on!
The advanced connectivity of HDMI
Bringing you the absolute best in connectivity, Onkyo's DV-BD507 features a single HDMI output. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the only interface in consumer electronics that can carry both uncompressed high-definition (HD) video and uncompressed multi-channel audio in all HD formats including 720p, 1080i and even 1080p. Your incoming media content comes in a variety of sizes, resolutions and formats, and with that in mind, HDMI systems automatically configure to display that content in the most effective format. Since HDMI carries all channels on video and audio, there is only one cable to plug into any HDMI-enabled source and display device. No more complicated cable set-up when installing your home theater system, and no more ugly cable mess behind your components. HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on this single cable. Also, HDMI is fully backward-compatible with DVI. (Please note that a physical adapter, sold separately, is needed to make the conversion from HDMI to DVI.)
Your HD lifeline
High Definition Multimedia Interface, or HDMI, is the only home A/V connection that allows for both Full HD 1080p video and 7.1-channel studio-quality audio to be passes along a single cable. In other words, in order to take full advantage of your home theater’s high definition potential, you need to HDMI cabling to link HD-capable components. It’s only natural that you might have questions regarding how best to outfit your personal HD system. Vann’s sales representatives are here to explain all of your options.
