AWESOME MEGA POWER...itty, bitty size
About the diameter of a credit card and less than 2 inches thick, Sony's DSCM1 Cyber-shot Digital Still Camera packs a major punch with 5.1 Mega Pixel Resolution that enables it to produce stunning shots of almost any scene in nearly any situation. A big part of the impressive performance of the DSCM1 is due to Sony's exclusive Super HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCD that provides excellent image quality by allowing more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise. The ultra-compact and thin size of the DSCM1 makes it the perfect camera to tuck in a pocket or purse for capturing high quality, high resolution photos wherever you go.
An Equally Great Lens For Videos and Still Images
The world renowned optical experts at Carl Zeiss developed the Vario-Tessar lens used in the DSCM1 specifically for compact cameras. Utilizing a highly transmissive optical grade prism, the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens is able to provide rapid auto focus and impressive zoom range, yet the lens is housed entirely inside the camera and does not extend from the camera body during use. The impressive zoom range gives you an optical zoom of 3x power to help you compose your shots without having to move your body. Sony's Precision Digital Zoom provides an additional 2x magnification without the jagged edges produced by some digital zooms. And, unlike some cameras, the zoom lens on the DSCM1 isn't out of commission when you shoot movies. The lens on this camera does double duty for both still images and videos. So you can frame your shots as you please and know that your videos will be as good as your still images.
Break Out Of The Design Mold
Composing and sharing playback of your pictures is made much easier by the huge 2.5" LCD screen that utilizes a unique hybrid design to provide a beautiful high resolution image that's very easy on the eyes, even in bright sunlight. It's easy for you and your friends to view images when they want to gather around to look at the shots. The unique Free Angle LCD on this camera is also quite freeing for your creativity. You can turn it to the side, twist it up or down for high and low angle shots, or even twist it 180 degrees to not only include yourself in the picture, but to actually see yourself in the image before you decide to take the shot (that way you can always look your best!). Turn it back again against the camera body to conveniently view the pictures or videos you have taken. As good as that all sounds though, because the LCD screen pivots away to reveal a dedicted surface just for control buttons, it means Sony could make all those control button FAR larger and much easier to read. Additionally, the flip-out LCD screen alters the entire design of this camera into a VERY hand-friendly shape that just begs to be held. You can wrap your fingers around the body of the camera for a very natural hold while your thumb can single handedly (no pun intended!) operate the controls. This camera is especially great for anyone who doesn't have perfect vision, or wants a camera that is operated in a simple and direct manner. That's not by accident either, it's by design.
Hybrid Recording
When you're really serious about getting just the right shot, you will probably want to take advantage of Sony's most powerful video technology ever put into a Cyber-shot camera. The MPEGMovie4TV mode of the DSCM1 delivers distinct advantages. It doesn't produce jumpy videos, it delivers full-screen resolution and stereo sound with surprisingly low bit-rates. Additionally, the DSCM1 captures full-motion, full-screen MPEG4 video at 30 frames per second, the same as broadcast TV. It even features a hybrid recording mode that captures both a still image and five seconds of video before you press the shutter and three seconds afterwards. You'll get the full memory of a suprise party, the full toss of a bridal bouquet, or the complete slide into home base. This feature basically allows you take take a picture and a video segment at the same time- talk about convenient. The maximum length of your video clips is limited only by the capacity of the media you are using. The DSCM1 uses Sony Memory Stick Duo Media which is a high capacity flash media in a more compact size than traditional Memory Stick Media. When you remove the Memory Stick Duo media from the camera, just pop it in the included Memory Stick Duo adapter and it works just like a standard Memory Stick.
This One is Just Right
With nine scene modes to choose from, it's a simple matter to get great shots in almost any situation. Just select the mode that best matches the scene you want to photograph and the DSCM1 knows just what to do. Since the camera is smart enough to know how to automatically compensate for the challenges associated with different scenes and lighting situations you don't have to fret over the exposure and can concentrate on your composition. Sony also uses an advanced Multi-Pattern Measuring system that independently meters 49 points in the frame, enabling the DSCM1 to obtain the optimum exposure even when highlights and shadows are scattered throughout the scene.
With Sugar on Top
Already a phenomenal camera, Sony spread lots of icing on this cake with extras like the supplied USB Cradle for a quick and easy connection to your TV for a better look at all those images. If you have an available USB port on your computer the DSCM1's USB Cradle is your key to quick and easy transfer of your still images and MPEG video clips. The USB Cradle also supplies power to the DSCM1 for charging its high-performance, long-lasting, rechargeable InfoLithium battery- at the same time you're enjoying the pictures. This sweet little digital camera is creating more buzz than spilled soda on a picnic bench, so snap one up before they disappear like all those memorable moments you're missing out on now.
