Multi-Channel Surround from a Compact Component
As amazing as it seems, the YSP800 can actually deliver multiple channels of sound that surround listeners the same way that sound from front, center and surround speakers does. There is a wider range of optimum listening positions thanks to the proliferation of audio "sweet spots." The YSP800 applies sophisticated Digital Sound Projector Technology to precisely control the orientation of the sound by focusing it through multiple beams. The center channel sound is heard directly, while sounds from other channels are heard after reflecting off the walls. The result is true multi-channel surround sound that sounds just like a multi-speaker system -- but without the need for extra speakers.
Thin Profile Design, Flexible Placement
Flat panel LCD and plasma monitors are becoming very popular, but many people wish they could also have thin speakers, rather than the usual boxes to the front and sides. The YSP800's compact, slim profile is a perfect match for 32" and also smaller TVs and video monitors. Connecting the YSP800 is much simpler than with conventional home theater systems, because multiple speaker cables are not necessary. Placement is flexible. The component can be positioned above or below the display in the front-center of the room, or in either of the front corners. It is compact enough that space should not be a problem in almost any setting. It can also be wall-mounted (with an optional bracket -- sold separately), or placed on a shelf or rack.
Intelligent Design
The YSP800 incorporates digital amplifiers that power 21 beam drivers at 2 Watts each and two woofers at 20 Watts each for a total of 82 Watts of power. Its advanced digital design is highly efficient and keeps distortion to an absolute minimum. Yamaha's ultra-sophisticated CINEMA DSP technology creates thrillingly realistic soundscapes in your room. Three CINEMA DSP programs are available (Movie, Music and Sports). The YSP800 is also compatible with Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic II (Movie, Music and Game) and DTS Neo:6 (Cinema and Music) sound formats.
Easy to Set Up
Yamaha's exclusive IntelliBeam Automated Calibration System ensures optimum multi-channel sound reproduction with acurate image location by monitoring and analyzing the sound with the microphone included with the YSP800. IntelliBeam automatically sets the best beam angles and modes, while optimizing the level and frequency response of each beam. This makes initial setup both extremely simple while acoustically perfect. Manual setup is also possible. Five different beam modes can be selected via the remote control. Five Beam mode provides true multi-channel surround sound. Stereo mode reproduces the effect of a two-speaker system. Stereo + Three Beam mode and Three Beam mode surround effects are also available, plus a Target mode that focuses one specific direction.
Volume Modes
During low-volume listening, such as late at night, dynamic range suffers and you may miss some sounds. The Night Listening Enhancer offers two settings, Cinema and Music, with three-level selectability, which will ensure that you don't miss movie dialogue or quiet passages, or lose overall surround spaciousness. There is also a TV Equal Volume mode to prevent sudden bursts of loud sound such as from commercials.
