The Samsung active shutter glasses make the 3D experience fun. I did not know what to expect but I am glad I made the jump to 3D. The glasses are comfortable and the growing number of 3D programs make for great home entertainment.

These are battery-operated glasses, not the more expensive rechargeable ones, and they are compatible primarily with Samsung technology, although I understand that some brands may also support these. The real question facing Samsung owners is whether to buy the battery-operated or the rechargeable sets. Obviously, I chose the battery-operated kind because the batteries CR 2025 are relatively cheap and because I dont expect to use the 3D feature more than once a week. Still, I have to have extra batteries on hand in case a pair conks out in the middle of viewing.
The glasses are fairly comfortable, although the shutter effect can be annoying at the corners, especially in a lit room. The directions say that fluorescent bulbs can cause visual stuttering, but I found that even sunlight creates a peripheral flicker. The 3D effect is stunning the larger screen TV you have, the better, since everything gets funneled in and out of the frame. For this reason, even with a 55 TV, you wont get the same all-encompassing 3D effect that you would in the theater. But still, true 3D Blu-Ray can be breathtaking. Yes, youll look just as dorky, but so will everyone else in the room. The glasses fit over regular eyeglasses, although I find that if I do this, my eye strain is slightly increased.
To operate, simply start up your Blu-ray player or switch your TV to 3D, and the set will ask you to push the button in near the hinge. Make sure that nothing obstructs the IR sensor, or the glasses wont be picked up. They shut off automatically when the TV isnt displaying 3D or when out of range for several seconds. They dont turn on unless the TV recognizes them.
These shutter-style glasses work. Your eyes may feel slightly off-kilter when you stop watching however, mine recover in a few minutes. Given the price and of these, I recommend keeping them out of reach of the kids when not in use. Samsung also makes a kid version which is smaller, but it doesnt necessarily mean that they are tougher. The price is the biggest drawback, especially since most people will want at least four pairs on hand.

Since this is my first 3D setup, this is the only pair of glasses I have used so far. Usually I use them while playing my Xbox 360. When wearing the glasses while watching TV, it looks exactly like it does watching 3D at an Imax theater. Very, very impressive
I have yet to change the batteries on the set I have been using and it has been at least 40 hours of use in two weeks. I bought extra batteries just in case.
Im sure its a good value if your looking for a basic set. If I had to buy them, I would have chose the rechargeable set.

So far they seem to be fine. Of course, weve never had 3D glasses at home -- other than the paper ones for TV -- so nothing to compare them to. They are comfortable, but the younger kids -- around 8 -- say they get a headache from them.
The only movie weve had is the Monsters v. Aliens, so Ive not actually sat through the whole movie myself.

If you have more than two family members who would watch 3D movies and programs or the 2D to 3D conversion of 2D programs and movies, then additional 3D glasses are needed besides the two provided in the Samsung 3D Starter Kit. For friends and neighbors who may visit, its nice to have extra 3D glasses on hand for them. Samsung battery operated 3D glasses are light weight, fit nicely over regular glasses and are comfortable. Havent experienced any significant double imaging once 3D TV is properly set up. Havent tried the Samsung re-chargeable 3D glasses.
3D effect is much, much better than older redblue 3D glasses. Battery life is about 50 hr and glasses shutters operate from IR emitter at lower left front of TV for 50 degrees left and right and distance to 20 ft from TV.
For 3D movie it is very important to initially set 3D View Point to -1 since factory setting of 0 or plus 1 causes ghosting and double background images. Access thru Menu- Picture- Enter- 3D- 3D View Point. Also important for viewing 2D to 3D conversion to set Depth in range of 7 to 9 to get considerable 3D effect since factory setting of 4 or 5 results in less 3D effect. Access thru TV Menu- Picture- Enter- 3D- Depth.
True 3D movies and cable programs are very limited at present. So 2D to 3D conversion of 2D movies and programs can provide very enjoyable 3D experience now. 3D effect is most noticeable for scenes with foreground and deep background. Movies with mountains and flying sequences can be quite spectacular such as Avatar, 2012, Pearl Harbor, etc., plus HD material and animated movies also look great.

good pair of glasses but the draw back is they are expensive, you cant use them anywhere else besides on the samsung tvs and everyone who watches the 3d movie has to have them on or else they watch a blurry screen
