This purchase was a replacement for our first GE Spacesaver Microwave which failed after just under 6 years. Given the price, I felt this was a reasonable service life and because we had it in a custom sized cabinet, we replaced it with todays comparable model.

When we unboxed the new unit, we found the door latch would hang up when we tried to open the microwave. An obvious QC issue. We exchanged the oven for another and the second unit worked fine.

This is a small and light microwave but does everything we want from one. It is full featured from our perspective and does what mircrowaves are supposed to do...warm up food, pop popcorn, thaw food and heat drinks. The turntable will hold a full size dinner plate. Dont be afraid of the 800 watt rating as it heats food in reasonable time. A higher output oven might cook faster but only by seconds. Best of all, it is small and doesnt take up too much counter space or in our case, cabinet space.

I bought this GE profile microwave to replace an exact similar one that I had for a few years. The only reason I bought it because it is shorter than all other standard microwaves and is the only one that would fit within my kitchen cabinets in a small spot for the microwave. But obviously reliability is very low on this product.
I bought it through Vanns and I have to say that the standard shipping was really fast and with best customer service. But the microwave sometimes wouldnt work just lights up and counts down without any cooking effect. It is an onoff problem and I called Vanns to return it. Ill probably look for another brand first that would fit my kitchen space before considering this one again.
I give it a 1 star rating as it didnt last more than a week. Otherwise it looks good and has good functions when it works.

I ordered a repalcement microwave for a GE Profile spacemaker built-in microwave that came with the new house. The old microwave showed signs of paint peeeling and so, despite reviews saying that it is ok to operate as is after painting over if needed, we decided to replace. We went with the model from GE that replaced the older one and were able to install it very easily. We are hoping that this model will not have problems. The order from Vanns was painless and item arrived as promised and on time. Overall we are happy with the experience shopping with Vanns.

This GE spacemaker microwave is virtually the only one out there which has a shallow depth, making it perfect for placing in a kitchen shelf or cutout.. As such, consumers have little choice if they want to address that need. It is a very nice oven, overall. We had one just like this which only lasted about 2 years before the turntable motor died, followed by blowing an internal circuit. Hope this one lasts longer. I had a 20 year old GE Spacemaker II that gave it up. This new GE Profile model mounted exactly the same under the cabinet as my old one. All I had to do is transfer the hardware from my old microwave to the new microwave and this new model was hung under my cabinet just like my old one in only 5 minutes. I was very pleased. My mother has a 30 year old GE Spacemaker II that mounts the same way. Hers is still working! Thanks GE for keeping the mount the same.

This microwave looks good and works good, however sometimes when we shut the door the light comes on and it seems to be engaged without the turntable revolving and without setting any time. Do you think this is supposed to happen?

My wife and I decided we should get a 2nd nuker since our 25 year old Toshibahas been 5 star might quit at any time and we didnt want to have to make a hasty decision. We studied a lot and decided on the GE Profile PEM31DMBB. There were lots of good ovens out there, and it was hard to decide on a particular one. The one factor that made us decide on this one was the fact that you can turn the turntable off if you want to. Which we do often, depending on what we are preparing. It is full featured, in fact, it has some features we may never use, but who knows? I went to many sites, and visited the local Walmart. It was hard to find a reasonably priced oven in this category1 cu. ft. which had the onoff turntable feature.
Everything else works perfect for us and 800 watts suits us fineI prefer slow cooking.
CONS Only one. The keypad is not backlit or lighted in any way, and there is not a lot of contrast between the numbers, etc. and the face. If you have it located where there is not light shining directly toward the keypad, you have to bend over and get up close and personal- with the keypad to make settings. We compensated with little white stickers next to the priority keys, and that works fine as soon as you get used to itfew days.
We are very pleased with this microwave, and YES, I would buy the same one if I had it to do over again.

And on top of all that, we found the best price at Vannsbetter than Walmart even, AND got free shipping, right to our house! Cant beat that. This is our 2nd purchase from Vanns, and we think they are a class act.

Replacemment for a similar earlier generation ge model that failed after 4 years - tried to find different brand but seems this is only unit that works under my small cabinet - measures aprox 12 inches deep, 24 wide and 10 high - still lots of room for our uses - looks nice -great price at Vanns - key pad is not as user friendly as other microwaves I have used but features are greatly improved- really dont need an undercounter mounting kit if you are a little handy - four long screws and washers from hardware store and your drill and easily installs - dk
