Care, capacity, cleaning . . . the performance of Duet washers
You want to get your laundry wrapped up so that you can spend the rest of your day off having fun. Thanks to its enormous 4.4 cu. ft. stainless steel wash tub, Whirlpool's WFW9450 front-load Duet washer lets you wash more clothes at once. And larger loads mean fewer loads. And fewer loads mean less time spent washing and more time spent playing. Further, the WFW9450 sports Whirlpool's Duet HT Fabric Care System, integrating a variety of wash technologies that deliver a high-performance, gentle clean for all your duds. For example, Care Control Temperature Management adjusts cold- and hot-water inlets, optimizing water temperatures to properly dissolve detergents while preventing overheating for minimized shrinking or color bleeding. And when it comes to Duet HT Fabric Care, this is just the beginning.
ESW — Extra-sensory washing
One of the highlights of the Duet HT Fabric Care System is Whirlpool's 6th Sense sensor-wash technology. As soon as you begin a wash cycle in the WFW9450, various internal sensors automatically measure the size of the load and then precisely set the amount of water necessary to wash that volume of clothing. Further, as the tub fills with the wash water, integrated Care Control heat sensors monitor the water temperature, ensuring that the water warms gradually to optimize the effectiveness of cleaning enzymes in the detergent. Finally, suds sensors work to prevent messes caused by excessive suds. Ultimately, this precise level of sensor-based washing operation minimizes water and energy use while delivering an effective, gentle clean to your clothes.
Direct Inject . . . get things done right, the first time
Washing poorly cleaned clothing a second time is a huge drain on energy and water use. Further, multiple washings subject your duds to unnecessary and premature wear. For this reason, Whirlpool's Duet HT Fabric Care system incorporates a Direct Inject wash system, ensuring that clothes are fully, gently, and efficiently washed the first time. Prior to the start of a wash cycle, the WFW9450's Direct Inject wash system injects a highly concentrated dose of detergent into fabrics, working to penetrate stains and pre-treat soils. Only when the entire load has been treated with the concentrated cleaning lather does the wash cycle begin.
Moving beyond "clean"
Whether the kids got carried away at the petting zoo or you've just finished butchering this year's big-game harvest, there are times when you need to do more than merely "clean" your clothes. You need the WFW9450's NSF-certified Sanitary Cycle, part of Whirlpool's Duet HT Fabric Care system. This specially designed wash cycle eliminates 99.99% of microorganisms without the use of bleach, serving up clean and healthy clothes that still receive the utmost care.
Blissful silence
With the WFW9450 washer from Whirlpool, enjoying well-cleaned, well-cared-for clothing doesn't come at the cost of a little peace and quiet around your home. Sure, you might have had to endure some serious sloshing, gurgling, and whirring from your old washer, but not so with this Duet front loader. A Quiet Wash design with integrated, sound-absorbing pad combines with a six-point suspension system to dramatically reduce operational noise and vibration for a little blissful silence on laundry day.
ENERGY STAR qualified efficiency
Seeking to meet your demand to reduce energy use and preserve the environment, Whirlpool has made sure that the WFW9450 meets the U.S. government's standard for ENERGY STAR qualification. What does the ENERGY STAR qualification mean? ENERGY STAR is a government-backed program helping businesses and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency. For the family or homeowner, energy efficient choices can reduce energy consumption and expenses by up to one third while resulting in similar savings of greenhouse gas emissions, without sacrificing features, style or comfort. ENERGY STAR helps you make the energy efficient choice. When a product boasts the ENERGY STAR qualification, this means the product meets stringent government standards set by the EPA and US Department of Energy for conserving both energy and the environment. So whether you are concerned for the environment, your pocket book or both, this appliance helps ensure both are given an easier load to bear.

After much research I finally decided on the Whirlpool Duet Washer. I was well aware of the one disadvantage of the front load washing machines and that is mold building up inside of the tub without proper maintenance. I can understand why that problem occurs and will take the steps to prevent it since the advantages of a front load washer outweigh the top load machines. The washer came with everything needed to set it up and install except for a wrench to remove the shipping bolts. I am very mechanically inclined and had no problem getting the bolts out even though the instructions were a bit vague. But the removal of the shipping bolts is something that may cause a problem for those less mechanically inclined since it took a bit of maneuvering to remove the bolts along with the plastic cushion attached to the bolt. You cant remove the bolt completely, because if you do the plastic shipping cushion will remain inside the washer. Whirlpool could make that a bit easier. Also you cant remove the power cord until you remove the shipping bolts. Once the bolts are removed the power cord comes right out. After the shipping bolts were removed the installation was pretty simple and washer was running in just a few minutes. The dials are very simple and intuitive. No more wash water levels to worry about because this machine sets the water level according to an internal sensors monitoring of the load size. The machine tells you how long the wash will take and monitors the time remaining on its digital readout. That is pretty cool Two of my biggest reasons for buying this machine were water usage and spin speed. A top loader can use 40 gallons of water compared to the front loaders 20 gallons of water. Living in the desert, water savings is important. Spin speed is important because if the clothes are dryer when they come out of the washer they will dry faster in your dryer. An electric dryer has a 5500 to 6500 watt heating element and each time it kicks in it is like lighting 60 one hundred watt light bulbs so the spin cycle will save you big on your drying bill. My wife has noticed a considerable drop in time needed to dry clothes. The high speed spin of some washers sometimes leaves you clothes wrinkled, but the Duet tumbles the clothes gently after the spin to help remove the wrinkles. Vanns shipped the machine to my door and the shipper called to set up an appointment to meet the delivery truck. It was very will coordinated. Im pleased with Vanns service. Time will tell how well the washer is made and our opinion of it, but for now we love it. One thing the Duet has not done is change our view of doing laundry. We both still hate doing laundry, but at least it will be much cheaper to do.
