Rugged, Compact & Easy to Use
Built to the same rugged specifications as GARMIN military products, this personal navigator stands tough in the harshest environments. The compact case is ultrasonically welded and waterproof to IPX-7 standards. That means it can withstand immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The sleek design of this GPS receiver not only makes it easy to carry, it makes it very easy to use, even when you're on the move in rough terrain. All buttons are located on either side of the unit, allowing for simple, one-handed operation that won't obstruct your view of the display. If the lighting conditions make it hard to see the screen, you can adjust the contrast or turn on the backlight. The eTrex Venture HC is housed in a stylish case.
Increased Memory & Worldwide City Database
eTrex Venture HC's basemap contains lakes, rivers, cities, interstates, national and state highways, railroads and coastlines. Venture HC also includes 24 MB of internal memory, so you can load waypoints and routes from the included MapSource Trip & Waypoint Manager software and add map detail from Garmin's entire line of optional MapSource mapping products. Its 256-color, sunlight readable display makes it easy to distinguish map details, even in bright sunlight.
Enjoy Clear Reception
With its high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver, eTrex Venture HC locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover and deep canyons. The advantage is clear&ensp— whether you're in deep woods or just near tall buildings and trees, you can count on Venture HC to help you find your way then you need it the most.
Included With Purchase
eTrex Venture HC, basemap, MapSource Trip & Waypoint Manager software, USB cable, wrist strap, owner's manual, quick start guide.

It is taking me longer to learn how to use the GPS than I would have expected. The Owners manual fails to provide all the information needed to set up the GPS for your home. Once you do get it set up, the GPS is very user friendly and fun to use. It would be nice if the various maps were not so expensive, but fortunately you can get by without purchasing any if you just want to use longitude and latitude locations which are readily available from a good set of topo maps. The GPS does an excellent job of getting you from one point to another, even without the add on maps. It is also very handy for checking speed and compass heading as you drive. All things considered the GPS is well worth the price paid, and does all that it is supposed to do both accurately and once set up quite easily.

I purchases the Etrex Venture HC for doing measurements of tracts of land for insurance purposes but it has come in useful for coordinates to find fields as well and distances traveled for business and finding routes to get to fields to adjust for insurance purposes. I am not very computer literate but after a week of following the instruction book and experimenting Im catching on relatively fast on its use and am finding new ways of using it daily. It is very affordable and being handheld was a must as I do alot of footwork with my job and it needed to be mobile. The capablility to download information onto a laptop for insurance such as maps, acres and location was a plus as well. It has done everything I hoped it would.

This e-Trex Venture is a low end product in the e-Trex family of Outdoor GPSs and has few bells and whistles. But Vanns price was too good to pass up, so I purchased it for occasional hikes. The refurbished unit sent me worked properly when I turned it on and the only problem that I have is that its use is so different from car GPS units that I have used for several years. The instructions are written for people who are experienced with these type devices, but I am sure that I will learn to use it after a couple trail trips

Bought this to replace my Etrex yellow, very basic, very slow.
The longest its taken my Venture to lock on is 60 seconds and that was inside my house.
After marking my home from the back step. I returned inside only to find my Garmin said I was 8 feet from my waypoint, a step closer it read 6 feet. Very fast to update.
Ive went 3 for 3 finding geo-caches, each time i was taken within a few feet.
This unit updates quickly enough to simply follow the arrow to a cache.
This is a no bells and whistles unit. It does what I want with no muss or fuss. Thats why I chose it.

I was really surprised how easy to learn and be able to use my new GPS as we enjoy geocaching. We download from a computer and off we go. it is much more powerful than the device I use to have. I went to a geocache class and they advised me to purchase a Garmin Etrex and very happy they did.

Ive taken it out to a few spots and found that theres probably a reason I paid less for a refurbished one of these. It will see satellites represented as hollow bars on the bottom of the screen but will not lock on to them -bar goes solid- for many minutes sometimes. Of course this depends on surroundings and sky conditions, but at the most its taken about a legitimate 3 minutes. At the least its taken 45 sec. so unless youre James Bond on the run and need it before the Russians shoot you, youll be good. Otherwise I cant complain, it does everything else as advertised. To get any sort of detailed map for upload to this unit will run you at least 80 dollars. So I suppose just do what I do and use it in conjunction with a -real paper- trusty orienteering map and cross reference your location with the GPS and it works very well. Exceptional battery endurance.
Bottom line, for knowing cool stuff like your altitude, speed, vertical speed, heading, ground track, distance travelled etc. and which way the car is, this thing is worth the 100 I paid. Get a refurbd one if you ask me!

I purchased this unit because we go to a lot of events where we have to park in a large unmarked parking lot think farm field such as NASCAR races. Many times it has been difficult to find our vehicle thus the need for the Garmin. It worked great for this purpose and even guided us directly to our vehicle at the Disney World parking lot at Orlando. I also plan on use it for hunting purposes to mark my vehicle and also mark tree stands.
All in all, a great product at a very reasonable price from a super vendor.
