These devices are great. We took ours hunting and where amazed at how we couldn't get lost. If your in a rough terain area don't expect the walkie-talkies to work great. It's more of a line of sight thing, if you get to many trees or hills in the way you loose communication. Also heavy tree cover can effect satalite reception. Didn't become to much of a problem and we where in some heavy woods. I haven't tested them out in heavy cloud cover but I suspect that may effect satalite recetion as well. |

An excellent system for keeping track of your buddies. I use it while snowmobiling. First time out, my buddy got lost and didn't know where he was. He talked to me on the radio and told me he was lost and was going to stay put. I got the signal on my radio and used the GOTO option and and it pointed me right to him. If we hadn't had the radio, I wouldn't have known he was lost. If we hadn't had the GPS I wouldn't have known how to get to him. A very smart system. I bought it to keep track on my young son when we go hunting. The option of turning on a warning when my son gets to far from me sold the product. I may have to start turning that option on with my grown up snowmobile buddies. |

I have been using the Garmin RINO 110 for about a year now and as for the GPS portion of it, I have yet to see a better user interface. It is extremely easy to use, very versatile and very customizable. I consistently get GPS accuracy of beter than 20 feet!
The radio on the other hand does not have the range to be a useful tool. When transmitting to another RINO, even line of site range is less than one mile. If you are in any amount of cover, it is further decreased. In some cases, I was not even able to transmit to a friend that was less than .1 miles away. that is just over 500 ft.
Bottom line, I would not recommend this to anyone that was planning on using the radio functionality. |
