Using a super sensitive quadifiler helix antenna that tracks up to 12 satellites simultaneously, this rugged and reliable navigator finds your location quickly and easily. Assisted by the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS), the SporTrak is accurate to within 3 meters or better. The intuitive design and large buttons provide easy access to all the amazing power of your new GPS, while the large backlit display makes it easy to see all the info your GPS provides. If you need a little help getting started with your new GPS, check out the built-in help database where all the major functions are described in step-by-step instructions. The SporTrak is also multi-lingual. In addition to English, it also knows French, German, Swedish, Finnish, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch.

Start navigating right away with the extensive, 2MB built-in mapping database of North America that includes valuable details like interstates, highways, major roads, waterways, city locations, airports and more. Increase your mapping detail by downloading street level maps to your SporTrak's 4MB built-in memory. Its rubber armored, impact resistant plastic can withstand outdoor adventuring and its waterproof (IEC-529 IPX7 specifications). It even floats!

Seven customizable graphic navigation displays show a map, compass & speedometer as well as text readouts of heading, bearing, speed, direction, ETA and more. Choose from 12 built-in coordinate systems and 76 datums including Latitude/Longitude, Universal Transverse Mercator and Military Grid Reference System. You can store up to 20 routes, 500 way points and 2,000 track-points to easily find your way back; as often as you would like. The unique Save Track-to-Route feature allows you to convert complicated track files into easy to follow routes. You can quickly and easily save hundreds of routes to your computer using MapSend software from Magellan.
Now that you know where you are
This GPS can provide you with a lot more than just your position. To start with, using Magellan's NorthFinder technology, it can show your direction even when you are standing still. It can show you when the sun will rise and set, as well as the phase of the moon, for any date and location in the world. You can use the satellite status feature to monitor the GPS satellites in view and get information about their status. Want to know when the fish are most likely to be biting? The built-in Fish and Game calculator will help you calculate the best times for your location, further assisting in the success of your excursion.

I am very satisfied with the Magellan SporTrak- Map GPS. It is accurate, graphically clear and readable. The control buttons on the face simplify entry of data. Being waterproof is an advantage since I have had it out in the rain twice with no adverse reactions. The unit is economical in the use of battery power.
One caution the company uses a rebate service which is not very reliable. It denied the rebate on my first Magellan SporTrak not the SporTrak-Map because it would not accept the original receipt. I returned the unit and purchased the SporTrak-Map unit without the rebate just to save the hassle.

I am A first time GPS user,and being new to the use of this technology,I was looking for a unit that would be user friendly without breaking the bank.

We decided we needed a GPS after our last hiking trip. We were told the the Sport GPS by Magellan
was a great choice and we would agree. It makes hiking a pleasure not having to worry about paying such close atttention to your surroundings so as to not get lost.

I received my Magellan Sportrack Map, as expected, on the day UPS quoted originally as the delivery date. My 12V/PC interface cable from my 315 unit previously purchased connected perfectly. We went on a vacation three days later and the Sportrack Map was fantastic. The preloaded US highways were a great help, especially as we did a lot of exploring. What a great purchase! What a great deal, too! I couldn't be happier with my Sportrack Map and I couldn't be happier with Vanns.com.

I got the Magellan SporTrak Map for my husband for his Christmas present. I haven't used it myself, but without reading the instructions on how to use it he took it right out of the box, put the batteries in it and started using it right away without any trouble at all. I recently purchased the Magellan Sportrak GPS from Vanns.
As I have never owned a GPS of any type, nor actually used one, I researched the various types via the web. Not knowing what to expect, I was/am pleasantly surprised with my new unit
A GPS that would work work rather easily right out of the box was my preference and the Magellan Sportrak Map sounded like the one for me (and other members of my family who seem to get lost on a regular basis).
It showed up on time (bought it on-line and had it shipped 2 day air) and ready for a cross country road trip.
The unit surprised me with its compact size (fits easily in your hand), its accuracy (mark the location within feet) & ease of use (my 11 year old set up go-to routes without reading a word of the documentation).
The standard features include a pre-loaded map, intuitive button controls and 7 easy to understand screens. I used it extensively on the drive into strange cities and even caught myself going the wrong direction at one point.
Satellite lock-in times were variable, but dependable. The manual is big, but as it states, it is not necessary to read it before using the GPS.
I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a handheld GPS, especially someone who wants a full function unit at the right price. Although I will use it on the highway, I can see the advantages it would bring a hiker or boater. The price is affordable and it works 'right out of the box' --- batteries were included.
