Samsung's new UN46B8500 LCD features LED lighting with local dimming. This is a huge improvement over standard LCD and plasma televisions, which use fluorescent or halogen-based backlighting technology. Innovate LED local dimming technology selectively turns blocks of LEDs off to render perfectly true blacks while others are left on to produce more light. The deeper the black level on a television, the more realistic and vibrant the picture will be. As compared to edge-lit LED TV's, local dimming is an even more precise way to generate the appropriate colors and black levels throughout the entire TV, so the picture is more uniform. This TV is everything it was advertised to be. I am completely satisfied with the reception, the quality of the picture, and the features are excellent.

I wish that there was another choice on the Picture in picture feature, though. If you set up the TV to play [programming through the HDTV port, you cannot use the PIP feature, as it will only toggle between the regular TV port and another feature, such as PC or a video machine.

But in all I really love this TV.

The service from Vanns was perfect. I would buy from them again any time.

PRO TV is exceptional in quality and perfrmance. Easy to set up.

Con Pricey.

Samsung support is non-existent and they are not professional to honor committments previously commited to on 4 separate phone calls.

I purchased the 8500 Samsung TV and the BD-P4600 Blu_Ray player from Vanns on the same order as well as other items.

After receiving the items, I hooked the Samsung TV and BLU-RAY to my Entertainment system on 1102010. I opened the Blu-ray Disc Player User Manual for BD-P4600 to page 32 for Wireless Network. Page 32 states
This unit is compatible with Samsungs Wireless LAN Adapter only.
Model Name WIS09ABGN.

I put the Wi-Fi Dongle Part #WIS09ABGN into the Blu-Ray and configured it to connect to my wireless network. The Wi-Fi and internet connection was fine and everything worked correctly.

I then opened the Samsung Series 8 8500 LED TV User Manual to page 33 for Network Connection - Wireless which states
You must use the Samsung Wireless LAN Adapter WIS09ABGN to use a wireless network.

Samsungs Wireless LAN adapter is sold separately.
The WIS09ABGN Wireless LAN adapter is offered by select retailers,ECommerce sites and Samsungparts.com.

I contacted Samsung on 4 occassions and on each I was told they were shipping a LAN dongle free of charge. After watiing 4 weeks I called again to be told by a so-caled manager they would not honor their previous 4 committments.

Samsung support lacks professionalism, honesty, and integrity.

I spent a lot of time looking at flat panel TVs-- and at various ratings for them. This one, an LED model, had the sharpest picture and broadest range of colors moreover, it does not require a PhD to operate it.
Altogether a winner!

This is the 2nd purchase Ive made from Vanns, and also the best one. My first purchase was the Samsung LN-T4671F which at the time was the best picture on the market and I was very pleased with it the two years that I owned it. However, when I started doing my research for a new TV recently and let me tell you, I did my research this new LED based line of Samsungs was the first section I raced to. I looked at other local-dimming LEDs and there were some that were almost as nice as the 8500 series, but they just couldnt match it in picture quality. After owning it for over a month, I couldnt be happier. The improvement from this set over my last is amazing, not to mention the smoothness of everything now with 240 hertz of goodness. All that to say that this is still the best picture on the market, and Vanns is still my number one choice for consumer electronics. Thanks, and I look forward to future business with you guys.

I did re-search myself for a long 1 month or so. I shortlisted two LED TVs
1. Samsung UN-46B8500
2. LG 47SL90

After visiting almost all the South Bay area store and after watching both these models, I went to Samsung UN-468500 and bought it from Vanns.

So far, this LED TV is working as charm and expected. Picture qualityColors etc.. are truely amazing.

Yahoo widgets are working seamless as I have high speed comcast network at home.

I got I wished for and I love this TV.

I upgraded to this set from a Samsung DLP that I had no complaints about after seeing the 55 inch 8500 in-store at a well known retailer. Its a great set, and the only imperfections Ive noticed are slight video processing pixelation and some *very* slight banding during panning shots. Maybe 1-5 percent of people would even notice these things after they were pointed out, but I tend to pick TVs apart. I would definitely recommend this set assuming you can still find one. It was rated as the best LCD ever tested by cnet as of late 2009.. that should say something.

I purchased this tv to replace my old Mitsubishi DLP TV

This was the best thing I could have done this Led tv with local dimming has the best Picture I have seen on a LCD tv yet it does rival plasma in the fact that the cost of the TV was not as much on this site as in My home town.

Easy to Set up I mounted it in an entertainment center where it is hanging Great picture great responce town and the Super bowl was amazing.

I recommend this tv to all those that dont like it go back to your other tv you dont know what you are missing.

Lowest price, awesome customer service, and lightning fast delivery. Everything about my purchase was great. The TV came double boxed with plenty of padding. It was quick and easy to set up and we were watching TV in no time. The 7 million1 contrast ratio and 240Hz refresh rate is definitely noticeable. My cable only goes to 1080i so my cable quality is above average but not stunning Not Vanns or Samsungs fault obviously. Where this TV shines is blue-ray movies. You will not be disappointed at all. Also my energy bill went down. The TV I replaced was so old it guzzled electricity and since these new Samsung LEDs from Vanns are energy star qualified you will see an immediate reduction in your energy bill. No brainer purchase if you ask me and Vanns makes it easy to order and recieve the product quickly. Stop looking and buy from Vanns you just cant go wrong!

We made the right choice buying this model. The LED with local dimming makes the colors really rich. It is worth the extra money for the local dimming and the 240mhz. Also we like the wireless conection to the internet. Samung has excellent products, We have a Samung LCD that is 4 years old and have had not ever had any problems with it.

There is nothing to dislike about this TV. Other flat screens that I had looked at sometimes had an in your face appearance to the picture. The Samsung has a natural, clear and realistic picture that few of the others can approach. The picture quality is the best that I have ever seen--and I did a lot of viewing and research prior to my purchase. It also offers many aspects that can be used to stay up with and expand into future developments. Although it was a little stretch for my pocketbook, it is worth every penny

There is one word for this TV phenomenal. The first time I watched a High Definition movie on HBO, I thought that the movie was filmed in a special way, so I changed channels and all the HD channels looked that way. Beyond clear, it like looking through a window and seeing everything crystal clear. The colors are perfect, the detail perfect. I think I know why Pioneer is not selling anymore Elite plasma TVs, because of Samsungs LED TVs. Who needs to pay 7000.00 for a TV when you can purchase a Samsung TV for 2300.00 and get a better picture. Vanns as usual was a pure pleasure to deal with and I love forward to may more dealings with them.

Fantastic product. We have loved watching bluray and dvds on it- the clarity and color richness is so good as to make it feel like you are there. The thin-ness of the monitor makes it fit nicely against the wall in our limited space, and its an attractive tv in all respects. Mostly its the picture that is so stunning though. No complaints at all. Nice knowing its LED as well, keeps our energy bill from spiking.

In a word fantastic... Real good black, and i didnt have a problem with the off angle. Sounds good too, but a surround sound would make it even better. Only thing I really didnt like was that glossy finish, it tended to reflect any light source and i had to turn off the offending lights. It replaced a 50in Sony LCD projection and it wouldnt be fair to compare the two.

Outstanding picture! Even side angle viewing is good. The only drawback is the sound quality which is understandable with the thin dimension. I plan on adding a sound bar. Other than that I highly recommend this product. Also, I placed the order only a few days before Christmas and Vanns got it to me in only two days! Great customer service. Vanns will get my business again.
