My husband chose this tv based upon the supposed picture quality and because it was ahead of the technology curve. I was a bit skeptical and concerned as technology can intimidate me.
We received the tv and quickly unpacked it. I was already on the stand and only took a few minutes to hook up. Using and HDMI cable to the cable box and the power cord were the only connections that were necessary. We are waiting for the cost of Blu-ray to drop to add it and a surround sound. The tv quickly was powered up and within 5 minutes we were watching hdtv.
The picture was fantastic right out of the box. We have been amazed at the detail on the expressions and details read wrinkles on the faces of people on tv. The contrast between the brights and the darks is beyond description.
At the same time, the sound out of the tv speakers is surprisingly good. Not to say that you might not want surround sound, but dont feel as though it is necessary to enjoy what this set can provide.
Bottom line, I wish we would have bought this tv sooner. Do not be afraid of the cost or that this set will be too complicated, Sony has done a great job of providing value in this entertainment set. |

Having done extensive web surfing in order to attempt making an informed decision, I arrived at the Sony KDL-46XBR4. What you will read on many websites as of Dec 07, is that this HDTV consistently ranks highly with reviewers and consumers, and that the only real drawback is that it is expensive. When you consider spending a chunk of cash that is more than a few percent of your annual income, it is tough to think that you should take on that extra expense when you see larger flat-panel TVs selling for less. But, after you weigh in the competitive pricing of Vann’s, no sales tax, and free to the curb shipping, you might be swayed to take the risk. I did. I am happy with my choice. No problems yet. Hopefully no problems in the future.
What I like about this Sony HDTV is that it is easy to use, has 120Hz refresh rate, and the smooth motion in 1080p is pretty fun. This is definitely the TV for gamers. As this is my first HDTV purchase, I do not have a frame of reference to compare it to. But, I can say that compared to my original 24” college TV, it is a wonder. I actually get a little motion sick because I’m not used to the size and clarity of the screen. Kind of like being at an IMAX theatre. The 46” was recommended for viewing distances of 10 feet, and I think I just need to get used to it. If you have a little extra cash, this might be the TV for you.
