Wireless ready (no, actually ready)
The Sony KDL-55NX720 1080p LED HDTV is more than just a pretty face. Sure it's got incredible 3D picture capabilities, with bright LED lighting and an X-Reality engine that analyzes every scene to bring out the best in sharpness and contrast. You can certainly add in the 240Hz MotionFlow XR technology, letting you see fast movement and action clearly, and a 55" OptiContrast panel that boosts contrast and brightness for incredible picture quality no matter if you're watching basic cable or the latest Blu-ray mega-blockbuster movie. But what really sets the 55NX720 apart is that it's ready to connect to your home wireless network to give you access to streaming movie services like Netflix, Qriocity, Hulu Plus, YouTube, and more right out of the box. No "adapters required." No "sold separately." Not even a "requires firmware update." It's built-in and ready to connect you to your favorite content from streaming services, or even your own computer thanks to DLNA compatibility. So, while you'll definitely appreciate it's pretty face, the 3D-capable panel, and even the energy saving features that are built right in, we think you'll be appreciating them just a little bit more when you're watching — well, whatever you want to be watching — right out of the box.

Delivery was quicker than I expected and Vanns was very reassuring about ordering such a large item over the internet. Very high marks for courtesy and service. There were no problems out of the box other than learning the hookups to my AVR. I have an older AVR without HDMI hookups, so I had to learn what to do. The Sony picture is great, and I am glad we decided to go larger for us with the 55. 120Hz refresh on this TV is high enough for me for fast action. The speakers are not great, but i knew that going in. Hook it up to an AVR and your good. Although not that important to me, my wife loves the Gorilla glass on this model. The wireless streaminginternet works great and was easy to set up--then again, I am used to this stuff and have a 10Mbps connection. I suggest a wireless access point or router close to the TV to reduce any problems. The Smart TV feature was nice. So nice though, that we decided to go a step further and get a Logitec Revue so we can surf the web on the TV. The Smart TV Widgets are good if you just want to stream movies, but has its limits essentially using a TV remote is an awful way to enter any kind of text. Integration of this sort of technology is probably the next step for TVs. I learned something interesting along the way. If you are confused by the quality you see sometimes on different TVs, you should be. Broadcast networks NBC, etc. use different formats, providers Dish, etc. use compression to send HD signals, store settings to sell TVs are not the same you use in your home, room lighting. The list goes on. Sometimes differences that you see between TVs may have little to do with the TV.... Also, if you are new to HD and have DVDs be prepared to spring for a blu-ray player. A new player improved the look of the old media on the HD TV.
