Picture this
By this point, HDTVs are nothing new. But not all HDTVs are created equal. For example, the picture you get from LG's 42LV5500 is an incredible improvement over what you'll see on most modern sets. It starts with a Full HD 1920 x 1080p resolution. 120Hz processing ensures that all of your action is smooth and clear, so whether you're watching an action movie, playing a fast-paced game, or checking out the game on Sunday, there's no blur or jitter. But different eyes have different preferences. To ensure that you enjoy your TV as much as possible, there are a wide variety of adjustments you can make, and Picture Wizard II guides you through it all. After you get the screen fine-tuned just the way you like it, an Intelligent Sensor adjusts the picture based on the amount of ambient light in your room. Then there's the technology. The LV5500 uses LED backlighting, so you'll get superior contrast and more vibrant colors than you will with other LCDs. Not only does LED look better, it also allows the TV to be razor-thin and helps you save energy. In fact, this LG LED earned the coveted ENERGY STAR of approval, guaranteeing that it saves natural resources and saves you money. But that's not all that's cool about the 42LV5500. It comes with a Wi-Fi adapter, so if you have a home network, you can start enjoying web-enabled content right away. SmartTV offers a wide variety of instant streaming services from many top providers, while DLNA certification gives you the opportunity to play media from other devices on your home network.

The 42LV5500 is an excellent product. The picture is amazing and simple to adjust with the picture wizard. Using this wizard, you can minimize LED overprocessing and assure that skintones and movement is natural looking. I read several reviews on the poor integration of the LG apps, ealier in 2011, but I think LG has upgraded this area significantly with firmware upgrades to the Smart TV line. I have integrated the DLNA server to my home computer as well as an AV receiver for sound and DVD. My wife is actually able to use the Magic Remote easily and access all content easily - this feat cannot be overemphasized enough! . I ran the Optical Audio output from the LV5500 to my AV receiver and receive everything from the TV in 2.1 sound. I needed to adjust the audio lag after a quick call to the LG customer support line to assure TV audio matched the video. Since my DVD is built into the AV receiver I am able to get 5.1 sound for DVD movies. Great product, highly recommended for any Smart TV customer. After researching extensively the competition in this area, LG is tops in regards to picture quality and Smart TV integration I also have a new Panasonic Viera Plasma to compare.

Ill be honest - I was looking for a Samsung, but because the model I wanted was unavailable, I went to my second choice - the LG. Im so glad I did! The picture is so clear & vivid, and I love the smart TV features - Netflix streaming right to the TV! Also love that the TV senses when I have turned on an additional device and asks if I want to switch to that input. Only downside - I have this TV mounted on the wall & it seems a bit difficult to connect additional devices. Also would love to have seen more redyellowwhite connections. Menu is a bit unintuitive. Only bad thing I can really say about it is that the speakers seem a bit tinny. And I have to crank up the volume when watching Netflix. TV well worth the price!

This is about as perfect a high-def television as youll find. Its the perfect size for most viewing areas, 9 from screen, and has a wonderful picture, free of shimmer and other aberrations. The only thing missing is a simple RCA out to a receiver that doesnt have an optical input. My work-around is to use the headphone out, which works just fine. Still... this omission is all that prevents me from giving the 42LV5500 a perfect 10. Ill give it a 9.5. This is reflected in my score of 4 for Ease of Use below. Other than that, its got plenty of options - 4 HDMI inputs as well as USB and many others. The wireless feature works perfectly with my Apple Airport Express located in another room. I must reiterate that with any high-def TV, its mostly about the picture, and its fabulous. It looks spectacular with Blu-ray DVDs, but excellent with regular DVDs as well. I should also say that the price and speedy service from Vanns was exemplary. All in all, I am very happy with this purchase.

We love our new TV! The picture quality is excellent, and we are enjoying watching movies and sporting events on the larger screen. We are still learning about all of the cool, new features it has, but are looking forward to ordering movies via Netflix. Vanns website provided us with all the information we needed to make our decision.

Brian in Customer Service helped me decide on this Television, as I was pretty undecided he displayed a great deal of patience and his knowledge of Vanns product lines was extremely helpful. All I can say about this TV is it is much more than I expected, fantastic features, very extensive display settings, ample inputs and an incredible picture, compared to the Dynex 32 inch 720p in the bedroom, in 720p this set blows it away, standard def looks great as well, will vary according to the quality of the signal, but unlike other HD sets Ive viewed displaying SD signals this set is perfect, just as good if not better than the SD 36 Sony Wega Trinitron, it replaced. The wireless internet feature works flawlessly with netflix, vudu, web browsing, youtube..no disappointmnts here, wish I could of afforded one of the larger LGs in this series, and Vanns has maybe the best customer service I have encountered over the years.
