My husband and I recently purchased the Panasonic TH-50PZ77U. The picture quality is great. The colors look true to life. Our high def channels are really clear! There are several aspect settings you can choose from to create the look you like -- I like the justify setting.
We have a Panasonic 42 that we purchased in 2003 and have been VERY hapy with. We are equally pleased with this TV.
Drawbacks The speakers do not produce the sound quality that we are used to. Though we had Bose speakers attached to our older TV. My suggestion is to purchase separate speakers for this TV and enjoy the amazing picture quality. |

I really did my homework before purchasing the Panasonic TH-50PZ77U, and it really paid off. You could spend more money and not get the picture quality, the ease of use, and Vanns great service like I did with this unit.
Panasonic is in a sweet spot right now with plasma. Their sets offer rich color and sharp focus in a variety of viewing settings. The overall quality is extremely high, yet the prices are lower than on other brands you might not trust as much. I bought my set on a combo special from Vanns that included a universal wall mount - works great - and a Panasonic Blu-Ray player -sweet picture, both of which I needed. And I paid using the convenience of the Vanns card.
Two points of comparison. First, the Panasonic TH-50PZ700U has gotten great reviews and is in great demand. It costs more and is harder to get a hold of. I went to two stores and compared the 77U with the 700U myself and spoke with sales people in the stores. None of us could make a case for buying the more expensive unit.
Second, I had 5-6 web sites that I checked prices on for about two months, really waiting for a price drop. Right as I was ready to make the purchase, confident that I had done my homework and knowing I could hold out for a great price, Vanns dropped its price. And I jumped at the deal. Patience, and not needing to make an emotional buy really paid off.

recently bought the pz77u and we are thoroughly pleased. did a lot of personal research prior to the purchase originally only considering LCDs $3000 because of 1-size 50 or larger 2-relatively small room, so only flat panel will do to minimize the space it takes up and 3-brightly lit room.
if you have done your research and are considering this set, than you will see that many people prefer it for both quality and price but of those who dont, many say the pz700 just has a better picture. i disagree, and think you will be hard pressed to find a significant difference. the anti-reflective coating on this screen is just amazing. without it, there is no way we could put a plasma in the room we have. but in this plasma, you get no more glare than a good anti-glare LCD flatscreen, and there is no perceptible picture-quality degradation from it unless you are more than about 165 degrees off-center obviously a useless place to be in the room anyway. speakers are not a drawback who would actually rely on speakers included with a tv - i dont even know what they sound like i am pleased that panasonic made them so slender that they blend in extremely well with the frame. only drawback i can perceive is only 2 HDMI inputs which are v1.3a - can get you deep color - perfect, and blacks are not of the pioneer Kuro caliber. but for the picture you do get, and for the price, the blacks are nice and better than many LCDs i saw $3000 IMHO. and this coming from a discerning viewer who can actually notice the difference in many of these black levels from set to set, by far the difference between this sets black level and that of the new pioneers absolutely does not justify the difference in price.
