I just sit and stare at this beautiful TV! First thing you notice is its massive and then, shortly after you turn it on, you notice what an outstanding picture quality it has. Great black levels and incredible detail. The 1080p is very noticeable in a set this size. Prior to the Pioneer Kuros, the TH-xxPZ700Us were the highest rated of any plasma tvs. And while the Kuros do have a slightly better picture quality, they cost TWICE as much for the same screen size.
Its very easy to set up. Basically, besides connecting the various cables and getting it on the wall, the only thing you have to do is adjust the picture settings which are easy to find. A great starting point for those settings can be found on CNET.com in their review. After I get through the 100 hour break-in period, Ill redo them with a calibration disk. But, the CNET settings looked fantastic on my set.
One complaint some folks have is the TH-58PZ700U has only two HDMI ports. I dont find this any limitation at all. If I want more, Ill get a switch box or upgrade my HT receiver. The other complaint is the lack of picture adjustments for fine tuning the color settings. Again, there is a simple fix, if you need that level of sophistication, have the set calibrated by an ISF technician. They can get to those setting through the service menu.
Bottom line on this set is it has the BEST bang for the buck of any TV on the market today.

When I set out to purchase my new TV, I didnt know a lot, so I spent a couple of months roaming around my local brick-and-mortar stores to see what I could learn, also spending time on the Internet learning what all the terms and features really meant. When it came down to price vs performance - I couldnt find another TV that looked significantly better than this one that didnt cost much much more.
To start - the picture is beautiful. People can argue all day about plasma vs LCD and it really comes down to personal preference. While some people are enticed by the slightly brighter picture of an LC4D, I found myself more attracted to the more realistic tones I found on more plasma sets. Additionally, LCD sets at this size 58 are much pricier, and I knew I wanted something at least as big as my old Hitachi 57 RPTV.
For value - I rated this a 5. Vanns offered a price which was far and away better than my local brick and mortar stores, even after adding special promotion items Blu Ray player and wall mount. This TV is among the elite of those that are often found in your local electronics stores, and the savings realized by buying from Vanns were almost staggering. The lack of sales tax and free shipping were big bonuses. I also must mention that the shipping companies used to get this 200lb monster to my home did a great job finding my home and taking care of the package. I expected a lot less for a free service - kudos to Vanns!
For ease of use I give it a 4 - I have no real gripes, but I would have liked to see some anti-image-retention features like other similar plasmas have. There are a lot of features in the menus of the system, and it will take a few times reading through the manual before you can figure out what exactly you are changing sometimes.
Performance I rate a 5 - My eye is not as well-trained as home theatre professionals might be, but I do know what I like, and I enjoy the picture on this set immensely. CNet and many other online reviewers give this TV very high marks for quality, and my less-trained eye tends to agree. I was wowed when I connected up my HD-Cable box and Blu Ray player. My former TV was an RPTV capable of displaying 1080i, but I didnt expect the Panasonic to provide the wealth of improvements that it has. Plasmas are renowned for their black levels and this one is no exception. The darkest scenes still seem vivid and detailed as those which are fully lit. A true HT aficionado may be able to find things that arent perfect, but I cant say I have a single complaint.
I would recommend this TV to anyone, and Id recommend they buy it from Vanns! |

The picture on this television is fantastic once you take the picture off of the vivid setting. The only problem I initially had, was a choppy image while attempting to watch Directv. After some trial and error with the picture settings I turned on the C.A.T.S setting and the image instantly cleared. Overall I am very happy with everything about my new Panasonic 58 hdtv. |

Wow, what a set! I had just purchased a Panasonic 50 720P for my bedroom a week earlier and I was thrilled with it. After just 2 days of PlasmaHi Def viewing I decided that I couldnt live with my old tube and Standard definition viewing in my Living Room any longer.
I agonized over whether the spend the extra money to get the 1080P rather than another 720P. I opted for the 1080P and I am so glad that I did. The 1080P in 58 is about as nice a Screen as any normal person could possibly ask for. The Panasonic 50 in 720P is great............ but the Panasonic 58 in 1080P is simply STUNNING! I cant reccomend it enough.
The purchase was made Online with Vanns and went flawlessly. They emailed confirmation and shipping info to me and the delivery came in as scheduled. Overall, I would rate the experience as excellent in all categories and I am more than satisfied!! |
