Ive had the Samsung FP-T5084 for a few days now and I have to say my research really paid off. I was nervous about such a large purchase but Im confident my decision was the correct one.
I ordered the TV through Vanns and it was shipped via Fedex to my home. I had previously read some bad reviews related to Fedex but I have no complaints. The box was in good condition, however, there was no Tip-N-Tell attached. The driver stuck around while I checked out the TV.
My first impression of the Samsung was how much larger it looked in my living room, as compared to a store display. The TV itself is very smooth and stylish. I love the silver on each side because I think it really sets this TV off. I just had to marvel at the style of this thing long before I turned it on for the first time.
The overall PQ on my HD channels is phenomenal. The colors are so bright and rich compared to some other TVs within the same price range. I also have to say the standard channels look much better than I expected. I think some people just expect too much out of standard def channels, which contributes to a few bad reviews.
One last bit is Ive got an Xbox 360 Elite running through HDMI on this TV and I love it. There are so many details within my games that Id never been able to see before now. It honestly made me wonder how I ever played games without an HDTV. Right now Im looking forward to playing Halo 3 at full 1080p.
Ive read other complaints about the sound quality of this television but I have none. I think it actually sounds great for standard TV speakers. I wasnt expecting it to sound like a 5.1 surround system or anything. In terms of functionality it does what it is meant to do, and does it well.
I hope my review has helped someone out with their HDTV shopping. I know there is much to consider when making purchase such as this. Ive been there and I think anyone who gets this TV WILL NOT regret it. Definitely the most bang for the buck, in my opinion.
--I would just like to add that Ive seen no instances of ticker problems, judder, or pixelation problems with this TV. I had read of problems with previous models so I wanted to lay that one to rest for this great buy. |

I ordered this TV on a Thursday and received it the following Wednesday. The sales department at Vanns was very helpful and the TV shipped the same day I ordered it.
This TV is awesome, I havent had any true HD source material to play through it yet, only Dish HD and upscaled DVD to 1080p via the samsung DVD-R that I got for free with the TV. The DVDs look a little better but nothing like the Blu-ray or HD DVD discs Ive seen at the stores. The HD feed from my satellite Voom Network stations is awesome on the better channels. Some HD networks arent so great. SD programming looks good on it too but just like the HD stuff it depends on the source network. HD on a good channel will make you never want to watch SD again. I mostly avoid the SD channels now. I got my picture settings from some online websites and that made a big difference in picture quality. Overall this TV is awesome and Im very glad I bought it. I think the picture is just as good or better than TVs that cost 50-100 more. I have noticed no issues with IR or burn in and I havent tried any kind of break in period that some people insist on doing. Samsung says no break in period so I just turned it on and started enjoying it. I cant wait to get Blu-ray or HD-DVD, whenever that gets straightened out. |

I hooked this plasma up and was working in just min. Sound and picture quality is very good even on non-HD channels. This is my first plasma and I research for about 3 months prior to purchase and so far Im very happy.

Before i bought this TV, i was doing some research about the difference in Plasma vs. LCD. I found that LCD has better contrast ratio & life than plasma, but plasma has better resolution. i heard from circuit city people that sony has better lcd and samsung has better plasma.
I was checking the samsung site and i saw this tv and they refer me to Vanns. I liked the physical design of the Samsung much better. The top part of the frame is very narrow and the tv has a very low profile, which makes it look streamlined and unobtrusive. Also, I loved the Samsung stand. The rectangular stand juxtaposed against the rectangular frame is visually appealing. The HD content on the Samsung looked fantastic. I would love to see it running standard definition programming to see how it handles that. the sound is lil bit low but techs make up for it. i am very satisfied with the samsung. and if i run into any problem i will sure mention in the future.

Let me start off by saying that making this purchase with Vanns was one of the best experiences I have had with this type of purchase. I debated for six months whether to buy a TV online because of the fear of what might show up at my house but I am comletley impressed by the Vanns operation. My suggestion is take advantage of the awesome pricing Vanns has, kick back and relax knowing that you got the best deal on whatever you are purchasing and it will arrive in perfect condition.
Now on to the TV. I have been researching true HD plasmas for over a year now,I currently have a 720p plasma and have been looking at this particular TV for about six months. I finally decided to make the big purchase Friday Feb 29 08 and received the TV Tuesday Mar 4 08. Four days from Montana to Houston!! Awesome! I hooked up the TV right away and could immediatly tell the difference between this TV and my non HD plasma. The depth and clarity from watching Blue Ray Pirates of the Carribean makes you feel like you can jump right in to the picture. The blacks are dark and once you play with color settings a little bit everything becomes even more crisp and clear. The sound is just fine but as with any TV it does sound better with a home theater system hooked up. I was planning on putting this TV in the living room and placing the non HD plasma in the bedroom but those plans have changed. I will be purchasing another one of these to put in the bedroom instead.

I researched plasma tvs for a year before deciding on this SamSung TV. It replaces my Panasonic TaU. Recently I was checking out SamSungs Website and they had a link directly to Vanns. I could not believe the price when I saw it. The service from Vanns was fast and friendly. From time of Purchase to Delivery was 5 days. Their anti-fraud department reassured me my information would be protected.
Yellow Freight delivered the new Tv in perfect condition and on time. Great Service Guys!!
Now for the TV!! Wow! I have Digital HD Service from Direct Tv. I cannot believe this picture! Its like looking out a Window. My Kids and I were watching the Pistons the other night and we all felt like we were at the game. The Discovery Channel looks like youre right there. Amazing!! Set up was a breeze.

The 5084 is awesome! Plenty of inputs - I have HD cable. XBOX 360. Modded XBOX. DVD. Hard drive video player all hooked up. The only disappointment was that I couldnt watch cable thru HDMI and play games on the split screen. A simple cable splitter allows me to go split screen with a coax in std def.
This is my first purchase from Vanns, and it was a great experience - from the price to the service. I will check with Vanns for any future electronic purchases. Theyre the best. |
