I just love this Panasonic combo player. Its quiet and easy to use. Takes some trial and error to set up initially because the manual doesnt show how to hook up with a surround receiver. Only one time did the unit freeze up, must use the play button to play from recorded home dvds and not the ok button. Records well. Just love it. Easy to purchase from Vanns and the player was delivered when they said it would be.

Not many DVDVCR combo units to choose from anymore it seems. My first choice would have been a Sony as I already own a Sony DVDVCR combo but Sony appears to not make these combo units anymore.
My next choice was the Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK as it appeared similar to the Sony. The Panasonic has had some interesting quirks, such as
1. Not being able to record Digital TV broadcasts to a VCR tape. The manual clearly states this up front. However, by re-hooking up my olde Set Top Box which is one reason I decided to upgrade to this unit anyway I am able to record Digital TV through the Combo units Channel 3. My Sony did not have this issue.....
2. Quirky operation. It has electronically locked up several times and required shut-down and re-start to resume viewing.
3. Finalizing my first DVD locked up the machine also which ultimately required unplugging it and re starting..
Given patience during these quirky times, it does produce acceptable recordings and viewing.
I do like my Sony DVDVCR better however one only can buy whats available on the market and it no longer was....
And its made in China to boot.... but what isnt anymore???

Prior to purchasing the Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK DVD Recorder I read some of the reviews on the item. While some people may have experienced some problems with their recorder I have not. Having a Panasonic DMR-ES40V that I purchased in January 2006 I had very little problems with the instructions to my new DVD recorder. There were a few things different that I had to refer to the instruction manual for guidance but overall they are pretty similar. I purchased this recorder to transfer my tapes to DVDs and so far have had no problems. I hope this recorder will last even longer than my last and provide the same results. Im completely satisfied with this recorder and would recommend it to anyone.

I have always had good luck with Panasonic products which prompted me to purchase this unit once before. The first unit I purchased is a couple years old now and all is fine. I have a blu-ray tied to the same HDTV. I really dont notice any picture quality differences between what I view on the blu-ray unit and this dvdvhs combo unit when playing dvds on either. I collected so many VHS tapes over the years and didnt want to deal with the expense of replacing them so this unit met our needs. I can play old disney VHS tapes for my grandson. This unit is easy to install with the easy set up instructions provided. I recommend this unit to anyone who is considering a combination unit.

I purchased one of these players about three and a half years ago to convert my collection VHS taped movies to DVDs. This machine did exactly what I wanted it to do. I also have used this machine for taping new movies diectly to DVDs. I now have a collection of over 480 movies. The movie collection has been a hobby for a long time. The original setup seemed a little overwhelming at first, but with all the options of what you can do with this recorder, it is time well spent to really read the directions and experiment alittle.
The up conversion made the entire quality better for the VHS transiton To DVD better. This unit is still going strong and on a Tosheba TV. The direct recording of a Tv show or movie is easy with great aquality in the picture and sound..
I purchased this new recorder which is exactly the same because we replaced another Tosheba Tv with a Sony Flat Screen for our rec room to have to another complete system.
I had two Samsung recorders prior to these and got a little over a year out of each one before they bit the dust. Thats when I did my searching on the internet to find these units.
At first I thought the price was a little high, but as it turns out, you get what you pay for. I strongly recommend this unit and would buy another for any replacement needed in the future.

the instruction manual. I usually have no problem in doing so.
The internal turner could be of better quality.
I had purchased several items for my home from Vanns and have had nothing but quality

I have always regarded Panasonic has a top rate company. My 57 year old brother still plays his albums on a Panasonic turn table with Panasonic speakers! I realize that most companies these days are cutting corners where they can in production, resulting in products that do not hold up as well as in the past I sadly believe Panasonic has also fallen to this trend. I will say that this particular product appears to be of more solid construction than others within the same price range I checked out from other manufacturers.
Set-up was as others have stated It is NOT intuitive and quite frankly set-up instructions were difficult to follow.
I was able to resolve the set-up issues by calling Panasonic. The picture quality is not quite as sharp as it was prior to connecting the DVDVHS playerrecorder, but I understand this is true of other units if the TV and DVDVHS playerrecorder are not the same brand.
I may be wrong, but I truly believe the technician I spoke with was actually located here in the USA. Most companies American companies I have had reason to deal with over the past few years seem to be out-sourcing to such locations as the Philippines and India. Its a sad trend.

Recently it froze while I was deleting a program on a DVD. I bought the same machine though because I know how it works. I bought two other recordersplayers and returned them because the menus were so confusing. It is slow to respond when turning on, changing channels, etc. At night we can hear the fan run occasionally. It does copy VCR tapes onto DVDs, which did come in handy. It also has a digital tuner.

This is the 2nd Panasonic DVDVHS Combo Recorder Unit I have purchased from VANNs over the last few years, and I would like to say that I have received very prompt service from
this company when I have placed an order.
Also the panasonic recorders have been relatively easy to hook-up and use, and the tuner my models have had on them allow
me to record on my DVD while watching something on my VHS side. Also, my
satellite company has made use of the tuner and component input drives when they hooked-up my satellite receiver to the recorder, since it has a tuner, to where I can record a local channel while watching a satellite channel, and vice-versa. I hope that panasonic keeps making these type of models or that some of the companies will continue offering the type models I have used with a tuner in them. I have only used my newest Model DMR-EZ48VK for a short time, but it appears to be operating the same as my previous model that was similar. The DVD recorder on my previous model quit reading the DVDs after 3 years - which means it gave me fairly good service since I used it daily. I just hope I can get at least that much service from the new model, too.
I have heard some complaints about Panasonics customer service from others, but I made use of another companys extended service agreement which has allowed me to bypass Panasonic so far.
However, I have heard that Panasonic will usually exchange a used unit out of warranty with a re-serviced unit for about $160. Obviously, I would buy another unit like this since this is my 2nd unit, and I would recommend it to others, too.

With the lite duty disc recorder in mind, this unit is outstanding for converting a library of VHS tape to disc, providing you approach the process slowly and allow the unit to cool between jobs. The DVD recorder will cease to function if allowed to operate for an overly long period, but with proper treatment, this unit will solve the problem of converting magnetic tape to digital disc media.

This unit is very similar to my old unit DMR-ES45V46V, but is more advanced i.e. digital TV tuner, HDMI and VIERA Link. What is lost are some of the earlier conveniencesuser options. For example, you cant save frequently used title names the ability to copy selected titles from DVD to VHS is a bit tricky you cant switch from playrecord to scheduled programmed record mode without turining the unit off completely.
All in all, a good quality unit at a reasonable price.

While the machine has some quirks, which I can only guess are part of the newer digital technology, when I have called for assistance, you has helped.
I have found that I can not directly record digitally from over the air onto a VHS tape and that is annoying, but other than that and getting used to all the new digital tech, I have liked most features this product offers.
It has given me the most bang for the buck and that is what I was looking for, not to mention the original product recognition name which I trust.

I am so very pleased so far with my purchase. I have many VHS tapes that I needed to convert to DVD. The instructions are very straight forward and easy to interpret. I only had it up and running for a few hours before I burned my first DVD from an old VHS tape. It worked beautifully. I am so very satisfied and look forward to eliminating my huge stack of old bulky VHS tapes. Also, I would highly recommend Vanns for anyone. They shipped the product promptly and have kept in touch to make sure I am satisfied. Thank you !

My recorder has worked flawlessly for these several months. It talks with my new flat screen TV and even seems to read my mind. Perhaps because it does so many things well there is a rather steep learning curve to the operators manual. I still keep it handy and refer to it often, but things are getting better.

This tape recorderdigital disc recorderis is the most satirfactory recording machine I have encountered to date 2-17-10. It does everything it claims to do..Records discs, tapes, copies tapes to discs and discs to tapes. It starts and stops on schcedule, delivers great pictures with optional captions and one-touch copying. It also has features which I have not tried yet the ability to copy from an SD card and a USB source, but I would bet they will work
I have been searching for the perfect video recorder and thought i had found it in the Panasonic DMR-EZ485V a lower priced Panasonic. While this machine worked fairly well, it had a nasty habit of not recording the hours after 12 AM. I was able to find another machine, the Emerson WHF100F which only takes -RRW discs compared to the Pana payer which takes almost any type discs one wishes to feed it. or -. The Emerson also has an 80 Meg VDR a nice feature I have 3 work stations and f of each machine at each one. The Pansonics are my favorites Since I bought them they have never given me a single glitch.

So far I have been very satisfied with my Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK DVD VHS VCR combo recorder with digital tuner. I was also pleased that Vanns delivered it when they said they would. I havent tried all of its functions yet, but I did record a VHS tape successfully to a DVD disk, which is the main reason I bought it. I have the unit hooked up to a 40 Samsung Series 5 TV and it appears to have interfaced correctly and has its own tuner, which is picking up all the stations it should by antenna. Up to this point ,1 month, I would recommend this product to others.

It has good picture quality, and play functions for DVD and VCR is simple and straightforward.
But, the easy to use interface for recording is still baffling us. I would recommend that you get a some instruction from the folks at the store that are good at it. There is generally at least one guru at each store, find himher and learn. Take the instruction manual in and make notes if needed.

Once you run avi files off the usb drive the unit seems to freeze. Divx files played off the dvd do not fast forward.
Overall not a pleasent experience with the product. I wish the panasonic will remedy the situation in future in terms of firmware.

The Sony was easy to record whereas this unit is extremely difficult to use. I cannot set a schedule for recording from my Tivo there is no way to do it with this unit. The remote is not user friendly and does not have an eject button it. I would not recommend this unit to anyone.

This unit is a great recorder that plays well with others. I have already begun recording all my family archives from tape to DVD. I really like the chapter division and labeling capabilities. With HDMI output I am getting excellent video quality to my Samsung LCD. My family likes the recorders built-in feature that allows one remote to control both the TV and the recorder. There is a delay for some functions but once you get used to this you should have no problems. Some have complained about the unit locking up but I have had no problems with that. This unit has an extensive set of features and a manual to match so take the time to learn it. I am happy with this device and would highly recommend it.

Unquestionably, one of the best VCRDVD playerrecorder combos out there, and one that truly lives up to its overall stellar reviews. A breeze to hook up, set up and perform basic functions, even for technophobes like my mom. the hi-def capability, conversion capabilities, and variety of functions definitely make it a best buy. The only slight drawback is the delay in switching from DVD to VCR to Memory Card, but for all the good times my family has had viewing JPEGs of the blizzards of 2010 were in NYC, who cares?
ordering from Vanns--free shipping, no tax, no schleppingmade the purchase a perfect experience. would highly recommend this unit to everyone, from the novice to the technophile.

I just recently bought the Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK on line from Vanns.com I was a little scared to purchase it on line but decided to do it anyway. This was the best price I had seen and didnt have to pay for shipping or tax. I chose to have it shipped by Fedex ground. They gave me a tracking number so I could check on it everyday. It arrived within four days and was in excellent condition. I have not had it long enough to really tell how good it will be but, I can tell you now so far I am very happy with it. I have tested everything and all works well.
As far as how slow it comes on when you turn on the power doesnt matter to me. When you set it up the first time you have the option to set it where it will start faster. I am so glad I found this web site. I will purchase from this company again if I need anything.
I will give it a five and recommend this site for all.
Thanks for being there for us.

I recently bought a new Panasonic DVR, DMR-EZ48VK, which has a built-in VCR.
This is our second. We have an identical one already in use.
For me, the advantage of the DVRVCR combination is that I can record TV to tape
before the transition as well as record TV to DVD before and after. Also, I have a
backlog of tapes that have yet to be viewed, so I can watch these even as I record
other shows to DVD.
I have tried other recorders but for my needs they have come up short, have poor
interfaces and lack the capabilities of the Panasonic.
There are a couple of small annoyances that come with the territory, like slow
startup, but these become minor after becoming familiar with the units operation.
I hadnt recorded to DVD before my experience with the Panasonic and was
pleasantly surprised to find it possible to record fifteen half-hour shows on one
single layer disc, when picture quality is not an issue. For movies and programs
that call for a better picture, I can go to one, two, or four hours per disc.
I particularly like way that disc contents are displayed on the TV screen so that I
can select a specific episode of a recorded show, go directly to that point and then
by pressing a button on the remote, navigate to the scene I was watching in a
previous session.
Another plus I converted about a dozen music CDs to MP3 and put them all on one
CD-R which I can play complete with index on this machine. Music can alternately
be loaded to a flash drive and played through the USB feature on the front panel
of the unit, making it quite handy. Contents of SD cards can also be displayed.
As pleased as I am with the Panasonic DVDVCR combo, I couldnt have been happier if
it had come with a free puppy.

I just purchased this DVD player at the Vanns store in Hamilton. I was a little hesitant purchasing this model after reading several reviews on other sites. One of the most common complaints is how long it takes to change channels. This unit has a digital tuner which means that it will pick up the new on air digital channels. They are not in HDTV, but they still have a much better picture than the Analog channels. Keep in mind it will also tune the regular channels. Anyhow, this unit takes approximately 2 seconds to change from an analog channel to a digital channel. Its really not all that long and I dont find it to be a problem at all. Everything else seems to be working great. Good options for old and new TVs. Im recording my home videos from my mini DV camera to DVD as I write this. I also purchased the extended warrantee. 3 years for $40 is a great deal. Ive owned several different Panasonic items and Ive always had good luck with them. Good product with all the options. Id recommend it again in a second.
