Mix and match your video content
When it comes to recording your own DVD's and VHS, you seek versatility. And versatility depends upon the number of formats that your recorder supports. JVC's DRMV150B DVD-VHS combo player/recorder supports a wide variety of recordable formats, giving you optimal versatility. Supported formats include: DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+RW, and DVD+R. Additionally, the hard discs' Playlist-Based Editing allows you to edit scenes of recorded programs as you like. Finally, DVD/VHS dubbing allows you to dub scenes between the two formats.
Let your picture be the best it can be
Not only does the JVC DRMV150B offer playback for a variety of DVD, VHS, and other video formats, but is also delivers advanced video performance. A powerful 10-bit/54MHz digital-to-analog converter, progressive scanning, and video upconversion to 1080p/720p combine to bring you video that is clear, smooth, and detailed. Supported playback formats include: VHS HI-Fi, DVD-Video, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW/+R/+R (Dual), DC, SVCD/VCD, CD-R/RW, and WMA/MP3/JPEG.
HDMIncredible
Bringing you the absolute best in connectivity, the JVC DRMV150B features one HDMI connection. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the only interface in consumer electronics that can carry both uncompressed high-definition (HD) video and uncompressed multi-channel audio in all HD formats including 720p, 1080i and even 1080p. Your incoming media content comes in a variety of sizes, resolutions and formats, and with that in mind, HDMI systems automatically configure to display that content in the most effective format. Since HDMI carries all channels on video and audio, there is only one cable to plug into any HDMI-enabled source and display device. No more complicated cable set-up when installing your home theater system, and no more ugly cable mess behind your components. HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on this single cable. Also, HDMI is fully backward-compatible with DVI. (Please note that a physical adapter, sold separately, is needed to make the conversion from HDMI to DVI.)
The perfect link for sharing memories
So you've just returned from vacation, your friend's wedding, or your child's soccer game, where you've captured all the action on your digital camcorder. You'd like nothing more than to share this excitement with others. Imagine being able to plug your camcorder into the front of your DVD player/recorder and make DVD copies for everyone you know. That's exactly the kind of convenience the DRMV150B gives you. On the DRMV150B, a DV input i.LINK (IEEE 1394) connection makes it easy to plug in your digital camcorder and burn DVDs or VHS tapes of your latest adventure.
Connectivity
While format versatility, progressive scanning, and video upconversion are all hot-topic words in consumer electronics today, so is "connectivity." Giving you optimal connectivity options for hooking to video sources like a second DVD player, the JVC DR-MV150B has been designed to accept and transmit video and audio via a variety of interface types. Outputs include component video, composite video, S-video, stereo audio, and coaxial and optical digital audio. Inputs include composite video, S-video, and stereo audio.
Your HD lifeline
High Definition Multimedia Interface, or HDMI, is the only home A/V connection that allows for both Full HD 1080p video and 7.1-channel studio-quality audio to be passes along a single cable. In other words, in order to take full advantage of your home theater’s high definition potential, you need to HDMI cabling to link HD-capable components. It’s only natural that you might have questions regarding how best to outfit your personal HD system. Vann’s sales representatives are here to explain all of your options. This was my first purchase from Vanns and it will not be my last. This is a great company not only for product selection and price, but also for service. This DVD PlayerRecorder is my first. Ive been wanting to make the switch from my old VCR for quite some time, but selecting a DVD recorder was more difficult than I initially thought it would be. I greatly appreciated the product reviews on this site. They were instrumental in helping me make my decision. Set-up for this machine is a snap - maybe slightly more complicated than a VCR, but not by much. If you can read and follow directions, you wont have any trouble. Since I do not have cable or satellite service, I was most concerned at how well the built-in tuner would work at pulling in over-the-air stations. In the past I constantly had to readjust the TV antenna every time I changed the channel on my TV. NO MORE! The built-in tuner on this machine is incredible - at least for me. I now receive more stations than I did before with absolutely no adjustment of the antenna when I change stations. I recorded a couple of TV programs last evening and watched them on another DVD player today. The picture quality was wonderful. Im completely in love with this machine. Thank you Vanns.

Its easy to use and has many common sense functions. I like being able to know how long a disc is as well as how far it has gone this feature does not exist for VHS, though. Dubbing, timer recording, play, fast forward They all work in accord with your finger tips. Reproduction is splendid. I hope JVC keeps the same format with updated features. Easy to set, pulls in both analog and digital tvs real good. Highly recommend unit. I purchased extended warranty just to be on the safe side, less expensive than what TigerDirect wants for their warranty.

I received this DVDVCR combo last week, as my not so old, cheap Magnavox from Wal-Mart stopped responding to the remote, and playback of recorded shows was all jittery. So far so good. Im not that handy with hooking up electronics, but this was surprisingly easy to set up. The instructions were very clear. Im using an HDMI cable, so the recording, using both tapes and DVD s, is 100 times better than with the Magnavox. Also this has a tuner. I can record and watch something else at the same time. I never knew this was a possibility again, not so smart with the electronics. Anyway, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this DVDVCR.

I ordered this particular model because it had both an analog and digital tuner. I needed to have an analog tuner for my older projection TV.
The unit came in a timely fashion and was in good shape. I installed it without any problems and it works fine. I enjoy having the ability to record shows on DVD and also being able to record from DVD to VHS tape. It is relatively easy to use and understand. I would buy this product again. The only two improvements I would recommend are
1. The ability to set the device to record programs on a daily or weekly basis. As far as I understand, if you want to record a program every day, you have to set it up every day.
2. The placement of the fast forward and reverse buttons on the remote. They are not adjacent to the play and you have to go above to a row with a number of other buttons and feel for them. In the dark, when watching TV, it is easy ot hit the incorrect buttons when you want to fast forward or reverse.
Other than that, I am very satisfied with the unit.

I had a problem which I havent figured out yet recording onto DVD-R discs, but Ive had good sucess with DVD discs that the unit formats to prepare for recording. Saving from VHS to DVD is called dubbing, and it is a really foolproof procedure. The remote is awfully busy and loaded with tiny buttons, but all of the butttons seem to be necessary - the remote is useful, once you get used to it, which didnt take me very long. I am happy with this recorder.

My older JVC VCR, a relatively inexpensive model for its time, did the Big Firework thing and ceased to function, with a circuit board fried beyond repair.
They no longer make standalone VCRs and those that still can be found have useless analog tuners, so it was time to update to a VCR-DVD combo with a digital tuner.
The DVD and tuner functions are excellent. The VCR playback is a little disappointing - I have some old VHS tapes that play poorly on this machine. They played better on the older, cheapie VCR. My guess is that the midrange-quality player mechanisms are no longer manufactured, so this is probably the best option outside the four-figure range.
Generally easy to use, but ergonomics of the remote control leave a little to be desired, and I miss the 2-speed fast forward that used to be standard on most VCRs.

I also dont like that the channel doesnt show up in the display so I have to turn on the TV to be sure I am recording the channel that I entered on the remote.

This is a dying breed, and if you like to record whats on TV -- digital or analog -- this will let you do it on either VHS or a DVD because it has built-in tuners, both digital and analog -- and the digital draws in even more digital channels than my Samsung TV, which brings in more than enough. Its a TV tunerDVDVCR-player AND recorder all rolled into one, and at a very, very good price. There are just a few of these. Some people have a hard time with the menus because its 3 or 4 products in one, but if you could intuitively figure out your VCR, your DVD player and you older analog and newer digital TV, you can figure this out -- just give it a little time. The interfaces are really well designed for anyone with any aptitude for dealing with these things. And if you want to make space by transferring your VHS tapes not copy protected, of course to DVD, this dubs -- in both directions. Works really well, and the timer for timed recording is just like the ones youre used to using. After buying one of these and using it, I got a second one from the open boxclearance part of Vanns -- at 25 less than their usual discount price, with full mfgr. warranty, in case someone else here wants one, or for that day in the future when it has problems and all things eventually do. The HDMI output cuts the number of cables down from 6 or 9 to just ONE. Only drawback a movie on TV may have copy protection encoded, even on PBS, and this would require the other cables -- havent tried it yet. HDMI was developed to help with copy protection and transmits this info where the traditional RCA inputoutputs may not -- but you can select which input to use on your TV -- no problem. I highly recommend this product. Works beautifully give it 20 seconds to warm up to whats on a DVD, just as you would your computer pictures are the best you could hope for, and my research says we wont need anything more sophisticated for a very, very long time. Vanns will help you with any unlikely problems. Just talk to Rick.

It has been a number of years since needing to purchase a VCR for the house. I had two good Sonys go out on me in the last 6 months plus I needed a good VCR to upload video to my computer for editing and archiving. A number of things have changed in the past year with the digital transition. There was much to learn and thankfully we now have the Internet for such things.
I focused on the DR-MV150B mainly because of its video output features, plus I have had some JVC electronics in the past and was fairly pleased with them. However, with ALL of the combo DVDVCR playerrecorders currently on the market there was much uncertainty with reliability.
I do not normally purchase extended warranties. However, with so many reviews discounting the reliability, an extended warranty helped me make the decision. With Vanns great pricing, I was able to purchase the DR-MV150B and then the Square Trade 3-year warranty for just under the list price of the unit. I have a great functioning unit with at least 3-years of peace of mind. I felt like I received a decent deal.
As far as the DVDVCR combo unit goes. It really was not that difficult to learn to use. I read a lot of comments about the directions being difficult to understand. I am not an electronics engineer, but I didnt seem to have any difficulties getting it up and running. I record shows on TV without a problem, with the exception some shows will not allow DVD recording NASCAR and other licensed programs -- the VCR side will still record them however. I prefer to watch these shows where I an fast forward through parts.
Anyway, the unit has now been working since October, 2009 without a hitch. I would recommend this unit and am considering the purchase of a second unit for the house. If you have any qualms about reliability, I would recommend the The Square Trade Warranty. So far I am completely satisfied. If that changes, I have the warranty to lean on.

I really love this DVD recorder, except I have noticed a flaw in its audio circuit. The first one I got had an periodic chirp that happened every few seconds, where the audio drops out for just long enough to hear. I though it was just a fuke with the first unit I purchased, so I returned it, and promptly ordered another one. Unfortunately, the second brand new unit did the same exact thing! Such a shame - I love everything else about this unit.
Im returning it and will try the Toshiba DVR670 next time. Vanns has been very nice about the whole thing and allowed me to return it with no hassles. They even paid for the shipping!
Before the two JVCs I had bought a Panasonic DMR EZ28K, and it had a freezing problem. What has happened to quality control? I miss the VCR days, when you could usually count on a brand new unit performing correctly right out of the box.

I gave it a 5 rating on all counts. I tried the Panasonic and Sony models and none of them worked with the new Comcast digital box that we were required in order to view the TV digital stations. Although I am not very technical, I found the JVC support staff, especially the women, very knowledgeable and patient no matter how many times I had to call them. So the ease of use was my fault and not the machines.
I purchased 3 of them, one for my daughter and one for my sister back east. Now we are all comfortable in working them. I did not want to go into the monthly expense of a DVR so I chose the JVC. Since my daughter and I live in the same apartment complex we can tape different shows on the unit as the unit has to be on the station in order to record the correct show. That is due to the way Comcast made the box.

I studied DVDVCR combinations for good while before I decided on the JVC DR-MV150B. It had an problem right out of the box. After a good bit of runaround from JVC, I was to send it to service center. They had it several weeks waiting for a part to be manufactured. It had the same problem when it came back. I was to send it back and they declared there was nothing wrong with it - it was my problem. With the help of their local authorized TV service, a friend of mine, we confirmed that the unit did have a problem. JVC wanted me to send it back again, which Ithought was a waste of time. They reluctantly decided to replace the unit still insinuating the problem was mine. After another two weeks, the replacement came and I had a dickens of a time getting it set up with my new sateilite system. After four months, I seem to have a working unit. Customer Service was no help. JVC Customer Service is pathetic as far as I am concerned, extremely slow and not very knowledgeable. Think twice before you buy anything JVC.

This unit does everything it says it will do, and it does everything well. For me, the obstacle was getting it set up. I've owned this unit for 5 days, and I had to read the instruction manual several times. I also had to call the JVC toll-free number for assistance. They were very nice and helpful.
In my location, the tuner brings in 26 regular TV stations. The quality is not as good as my cable stations, but I am thinking of getting rid of cable because it is expensive and I do not like the programs anymore. I can use the JVC tuner for local news and programs, and use the intenet as my main source for news and commentary.
Regarding the dubbing feature most VCR tapes are copyrighted and you cannot copy them. Even my blank tapes are copyrighted and I cannot dub the material I have put on them. For me, the dubbing feature is practically useless. I'm thankful that I still have two analog TV-VCR combos in the bedrooms. I can record anything on those units without a tuner and without copyright problems.
If you are a beginner like me, just be patient and persistent with the set-up process. Study the manual, call for help if needed, and experiment with the remote to learn your way around.
Excellent product if you want a unit that does everything. And, Vanns does a good job of packing the unit in protective wrapping.

Setup was not easy, took several tries to find all channels. Rear panel does not have the three AV RCA out connectors, forced to use HDMI additional $50 to use it. Must have the TV on to select channels since channels are not displayed in front window even when changing channels.
Older models, Sony and Panasonic work better and have auto setup.
Im returning this one!

Have only had this product a short time but am pleased so far. Setup was easy and quick! Most features are user friendly and dont require an IT degree to understand. You will need to purchase an additional HDMI cable for the full High-def experience. I recommend buying the cable online as well. The JVC digital tuner found every station in our area antenna and produced a steady signal. Havent had a chance to dub VHS to DVD but dont expect any problems. Overall, a solid product for the money.
PS Vanns delivery was extremely fast. I ordered the unit late at night and they shipped it the next day! Kudos!!
