Not the gym!
Getting into better shape is a great goal. But it's not easy. No matter how much you tell yourself you're going to keep your New Year's Resolution, it's difficult to fit it in. You spend dozens of dollars every month for a gym membership but with work and family and all the other activities you have going on, finding the time to get your money's worth isn't easy. Even when you do actually go to the gym, unless you want to cough up a lot more moolah, all your workouts are self-guided so you get to guess when you've done enough to work off the biggie-fied meal from lunch. And when you're already exhausted, you might decide you've done enough long before the Calories are really gone. On top of that, it's hard not to feel self-conscious with so many other people working out there with tri-athlete bodies. There's gotta be a better way. And now there is. Say hello to Wii Plus.
No, seriously
Rather than spend hundreds of dollars a year to work out a couple times a month, you can work out at home for a lot less. On top of that, it's like getting the care of a personal trainer with Wii Fit Plus. This great game will help you keep your New Year's Resolution, and get even better results than you hoped for. How does it work? Well, it doesn't take lots of fancy equipment like dumbbells and resistance bands. Instead, you just need the Balance Board that comes with Wii Fit Plus, and the Remote and Nunchuk you already have. Instead of fighting against weight sets, Wii Fit Plus pits you against gravity. That's right, this game is all about what you do with your body. It will provide you with tons of helpful exercises tailored to your personal goals. So, if you're going for a flatter tummy, Wii Fit Plus will design a workout for you to achieve that goal. In this updated edition of the original, you can even choose a wide variety of foods, and Wii Fit Plus will track your workouts until you've burned enough Calories to offset your diet. Plus, it will track your progress long-term so it can help you reach your long-term fitness goals. It's like having a personal trainer whose only client is you. And since it's done at home, it's not such an inconvenience to get a workout in. You can even have Wii Fit Plus design you a workout designed to take a specific amount of time. And, it's a great deal! For this price, you couldn't even get a month with this much personal attention at the gym.
A little bit of cross-training
When most people go to the gym, they have one specific routine they do. Whether it's weights, cardio, yoga, swimming, or a combination of exercises, most peoples' workouts lack variety. That may be more familiar, but it's also not the best way to really improve your body. One key to any fitness regimen is to mix things up, and with Wii Fit Plus, that's a breeze. It includes over 60 different workouts, grouped into five categories: Yoga, Strength, Balance, Aerobics, and Fitness Plus. There are plenty of fun activities under each category, and they make it really easy to get into the exercise, even if you've never done the activity before. Start out with an aerobic warm-up, tone up with some strength exercises, and cool yourself down with yoga. Wii Fit Plus can help you get in a great, balanced work-out to make the most of your exercise time.
Your trainer
One of the biggest things that separates Wii Fit Plus with the Balance Board from many other fitness games is that other games simply tell you what to do. Wii actually creates and tailors custom advice and workouts for you. It helps you learn to exercise right. When you start, you can choose whether you want a male or female trainer. While doing yoga and strength training, your personal trainer will give you advice and tips based on how you're doing. If you're unsure how to do the exercise when you begin, you can watch a 3D demo from multiple angles to help you learn the proper technique. Once you're ready to try it yourself, you can get live feedback during many of the exercises. Then afterwards, based on your performance, many activities will also give you advice for the next time you do that activity. Your score can be compared to other Wii Fit Plus users in your house. If you're not happy about the fact that you didn't beat someone else, you can try the activity again until you get the score you want, burning Calories the whole time. As you perform the same exercise multiple times, it's only normal for you to improve in performance. As you reach certain performance benchmarks, you'll unlock increased difficulty levels, so you can get new twists (sometimes literally) on the same motions. Then, as you spend more time exercising, you earn "credits" that allow you to unlock additional activities. In other words, the game just keeps getting better.
Work out your way
What are you looking to get out of your workout? Do you want something to tone your tummy? Or are you looking for a relaxing routine before bed? Either way, My Wii Fit Plus has you covered. My Wii Fit Plus has a nice selection of routines ready for your use, placed into four categories: Lifestyle, Health, Youth, and Form. You can even mix and match multiple routines for even better workouts. Start with a warm up, tone your legs, trim your tummy, then cool down for maximum effectiveness. However, if you want a little more control of your routine, you're not out of luck. My Routine lets you put together your own personal mix of strength and yoga exercises. You can move seamlessly from one hand-chosen workout to another once you're done assembling your routine. Of course, My Routine isn't the only way for you to choose your workouts. Let's say you have a few minutes of downtime and want to get in a few quick reps of your favorite activity. In the Favorites section, you can see your top ten most played activities as well as your ten most recently played activities. However, if you're thinking maybe instead of just playing your best activity again you should incorporate a little variety into your fitness routine, you're still covered; My Routine also shows your ten least played activities so you can make sure your exercising stays balanced.
Burn the cookies!
One of the cooler features of Wii Fit Plus is the Calorie Check. This feature allows you to set goals for your workout in terms of Calories. But, it also has Calorie data for many common foods, so that you can make sure that you burn off the chicken from last night, the orange juice for breakfast, or whatever other foods you want gone.
Getting started
One of the things that makes keeping a New Year's Resolution to "shape up" hard is the lack of a progress tracker, or any good way to tell that it's really making a difference. After all, changing takes time. But if you don't see the results right away, it's easy to get discouraged. But not with Wii Fit Plus. The game puts you through some tests the first time you play. It will check your balance and take your weight. It will also ask for your height and age. After this is completed, you will be shown your Body Mass Index (a gauge of your weight compared to your height to determine how healthy your weight is). If you choose, you can also see your weight. Aside from your BMI, you will also be given a Wii Fit Age which accounts for your balance and your performance on the initial tests. When you get these results, it may not be your favorite news. If your BMI says that you're overweight, or close to it, it can be frustrating. But that's Day 1 of the new you. With Wii Fit Plus, you get all the care of a personal trainer. So, you can set goals for the future based on your own schedule.
Forget a roadmap to success . . . this is a GPS
A normal training regimen might claim to be a "roadmap to success," but they've got nothing on Wii Fit Plus. To compare, this is a GPS with turn-by-turn directions, reminders for errands, and driving feedback. As we said, you can set goals for yourself when you use Wii Fit Plus. Those goals will then show up on your calendar. As you do exercise, you can stamp the calendar, and see the deadline approaching. You can also see how often you've been working towards your goal. But it doesn't stop there. Wii Fit Plus lets you see graphs of your progress in BMI, Wii Fit Age, and Fit Credits over the time you've used Wii Fit Plus. These graphs make it easy to see if you're on track to meet your goals. Throughout your progress, Wii Fit Plus will give you reminders and feedback towards achieving your goal. You can even enter exercise time you've achieved outside of Wii Fit Plus. Oh, and one more thing: if you don't want everyone in the house to be able to see your personal info, you can set up a password, making it easy to keep your info private.
What on earth is Fitness Plus?
For many people, doing repetitions of a pre-determined exercise isn't that interesting. It's a lot more fun to workout while playing a game. Well, in Wii Fit Plus, it's easy to turn that idea into a better body. It's called Fitness Plus. This category of exercises has you play a game where your movements are actually exercises. For example, you can flap your wings as a bird, skateboard, or even have a snowball fight! Those are just three of the many games you'll find in Fitness Plus to get you fit while having fun!
Important rating information
Wii Fit Plus received an ESRB Rating of "E" for "Everyone." That means they think it's appropriate for anyone who can hold a controller to play. They did note that it had mild cartoon violence though, because of Training Plus games like snowball fight, so if you don't want your kids exposed to that kind of thing, you should probably check it out first.

I love my new Wii Fit Plus. Ive enjoyed the workouts so far. They are hard, but I enjoy how the mat keeps me focused and forces me to have the correct positions for the exercises. I found Vanns on the web just browsing for a great price. I had to wait for my order to come through back order, but the wait was worth it because I saved about $30.00 off other prices Ive seen at places like Walmart and Target. Thanks for helping me to reach my fitness goals. Im a busy mother, wife, and teacher and being able to workout at home is a Godsend.
