Latest I/P Converter from Silicon Optix, Inc.
The DVD2930CI uses the latest 10-bit I/P converter "REON-VX" developed through a joint development effort that merged image processing algorithms of Silicon Optix, Inc., and Denon video technology on the foundation of an image processing device. This 10-bit processing offers high conversion performance and dramatically improves motion detection capability. Multi-Directional Diagonal Filter (MDDF) technology, used for the first time in the DVD2930CI, which accurately detects and corrects the directionality of lines on a per-pixel level to avoid "jaggies" that easily appear when video sources are I/P converted, ensuring smooth picture playback.
More Natural Color Correction
The Denon Pixel Image Correction feature that incorporates original Denon enhancement technology and makes high-definition video correction possible, has been advanced to even greater heights in the DVD2930CI. Denon Pixel Image Correction performs detection and correction through 10-bit processing to significantly improve contour correction. This new contour correction circuit uses enhancement processing technology that also considers the influence of pixels surrounding the target pixels. It uses new algorithms to sample and analyze a total of 9 pixels of video data around, and including, each target pixel. Video images are detected and processed in vertical, horizontal, and diagonal directions at a highly detailed per-pixel level to produce contours that are visually more natural and processed to suppress ringing noise and other artifacts that easily occur during enhancement. By performing the type of processing that is most effective for the current video image, the picture is free of degradation and appears more natural.
1080p Output For HDMI
"REON-VX" also works as the high-performance video scaler in the DVD2930CI. This high-precision 10-bit scaler works with HDMI digital video output signals. This scaler executes optimum conversion to suit the output to the independent HDMI transmitters. You can enjoy the best picture quality for your particular applications. This scaler can also output PC resolution VGA/XGA/WXGA and SXGA.
Dual Discrete Video Circuit (DDVC)
The DVD2930CI's video circuit features Denon's own DDVC technology designed to enhance the quality of video signals. The use of dedicated circuits -- one independent block for composite and S-video signals, another block for component signals, and a dual DAC configuration with built-in video encoder -- has made it possible to reproduce detailed video images with greater precision. In order to bring out the maximum quality from both video and audio signals, the DVD2930CI has a discrete configuration in which the video, audio, and digital blocks that comprise this universal player are all completely isolated from each other in terms of their circuit configuration, boards, and power supplies. Denon engineers have used the expertise gained from their development of earlier universal players to design a configuration that thoroughly suppresses mutual interference among the circuits and prevents noise from affecting the video and audio signals.
High-Speed, High-Precision 12-Bit, 216-MHz Video DAC
To ensure that high-grade video signals from the latest high-performance I/P converter are reproduced with utmost fidelity to the original images, the DVD2930CI has an extremely fast and accurate 12-bit, 216-MHz video DAC. Oversampling of 8x for Progressive and 16x for interlaced signals results in sharp, detailed pictures. Composite, S-video and component signals each have their own dedicated video DAC, a design that enhances the reproduction of low-level video signals and reproduces high-definition images that are faithful to the original. In addition, Noise Shaped Video (NSV) technology is used to improve the S/N of video signals and further boost their linearity.
Picture Quality Adjustments
Besides the DPIC feature, a total of 15 picture quality adjustment are possible, including contrast, sharpness, white level, chroma level, noise reduction settings, and gamma. Up to five combinations of settings can also be stored in memory, giving you the freedom to adjust picture quality in considerable detail according to individual preferences.
AL24 Processing
The DVD2930CI employs Advanced AL24 Processing, the ultimate analog wave-form reproduction technology developed by Denon, for use during PCM signal input (during stereo signal processing). In addition to the data expansion of existing AL24 Processing Plus technology, algorithms developed by Denon for use in large-capacity calculation processors such as DSPs and FPGAs are used to interpolate data along the time axis and up-converted sampling is used to achieve natural interpolation without losing original data. Greater optimization in digital filtering has also been achieved for ringing-free pulse response and for music data and attack sounds. This results in more natural reproduction of spacial information such as the delicate nuances in the music, the locations of the performers, and the breadth, height and depth of the concert hall. For multi-channel linear PCM audio playback, AL24 Processing Plus technology works to faithfully reproduce the original sound of recordings.
All Channel Equal 24-Bit, 192-kHz Audio D/A Converter
The DVD2910CI uses a 24-bit, 192-kHz audio D/A converter that is well protected from noise caused by fluctuations in current from the power supply. Since the level of quantization noise within the frequency range is uniform for all frequencies, this D/A converter ensures that all the sound you hear is as clear and noise-free as possible.

This is a great DVD player! Just got an HDTV and I have a huge collection of standard DVDs. First thing I thought when I took it out of the box was, wow this thing is heavy. Build quality on this unit is solid. I was really interested in the REON processor and its ability to make my DVDs look great on my new TV, and it did not disappoint. Others will like its SACD capabilities, but this was not a concern to me. I wanted to put off getting a new receiver to upconvert my movies wanted something better than just letting my TV do it, or a run of the mill player. The pictures look great not quite blu ray and I dont have to worry about trying to replace my collection. At this price its a steal and probably wont be around forever. Check around and you will find out about the REON processor and the price tag of the items that have it. If you need a great upconverting DVD player, get one of these while they are still available. You will not be disappointed.

When I saw the price of this gem I thought it must be a computer glitch. Didnt think twice - I stole it! Muhahaha...
It is heavy. Not a plastic toy. It has metal shielding inside, anti-resonant disk tray. Video specs are amazing and Audio part of it is not just an aftertought.
For me it is the perfect universal player that lets me listen to my CDs, HDCDs, DVD-A and SACD collection. Audio quality is what I was expecting - superlative. AL24 Processing Plus makes a nice difference for CD, DolbyDigital and DTS sources. HDCD sounds crisp and natural but AL24 doesnt work for this format. DVD-A and SACD sound like the Hi-Res surround music should sound - absolutelly amazing.
I am using it with a harman-kardon surround receiver over analog 5.1 and, for comparations, I use the the coaxial digital link too. Is hooked also to a 37 LCD via HDMI - automatically detecting the proper resolution.
It does all the decoding - including DolbyDigital, DTS - and bass management, levels, delay per channels and general between video and audio. It has a bass enhancer function and virtual surround but I dont use them.
Image is absolutelly amazing compared to my other DVD-players - I have three more. The level of video adjustments is unheard of for other DVD-players. It has a buffer memory to avoid those layer-switching pauses. It plays rented scratched DVDs and recorded ones better than my other players.
With a little internet search I managed to play my Region 2 discs too.
DivX - yeah, its there too. Personally dont care too much for it but... its good to know that it is there. mp3, wma, photo... not a main feature for me but it might be for someone out there.
The menus can be confusing sometimes, some options in the HDMI section or Denon Link disable some other ones in the audio section. There where some cases when I needed to read twice the manual.
The power supply is switched-mode, not analogic but I cannot tell if thats a bad thing or not.
OpAmps are JRC NJM2068 for fronts and BA15218 on surrounds, driven by Burr Brown PCM1791 DACs. I think someething like LM4562 where more desirable - not a big extra expense. DSP chip is Texas Instruments TMS320D708 helped by an Altera Max II. AK4101 quad transmitter and LC89057W takes care of digital audio via SPDIF and Denon-Link.
Overall I am very happy with it and Vanns quick shipping.

Here I go again to write a review of the ultimate DVD player. I purchased the 2930CI because I needed 1080P output, and it has replaced my Denon 955S dvd player. Let me start by saying that when I first opened the box the size of this dvd player made me ask myself, what did I do wrong? It is a big dvd player but well worth for its performance.
I have it hooked up to my Denon AVR 2808CI via HDMI and after a few adjustments I tried it and all I can say is that I got goosebumps when the music started playing which was a dvd concert from Roger Waters.
My dvds have changed once again and now I can only imagine what the 3930 or 5910 were like. If you want the best 1080P upconverting player this is it!! The video is breathtaking and so is the sound. My dvds look spectacular. I might buy another one just for the hell of it. Once these are gone, you will never find the best upconverting dvd player, unless you buy a bluray which I also own from Denon, but I use it only for blu, and the 2930CI is for dvds, sacd and dvd-audio.
It sure is the best purchase I have made in years, Thanks to Vanns great service and fast shipping.
Go buy one, and trust me when I say you will NOT be dissapointed no matter what you will throw at it.

I have been running an older Mitsubishi CD player and a Sony progressive scan DVD player --the free one I got with a Plasma TV-- - a few weeks back the CD player gave up - so was using the dvd player for cds and the sound quality was marginal. I have an Onkyo SR 605 --which is fantastic-- driving my 13 year old polk towers and a pair of Kicker comp subs in custom boxes- running Bi-amped from receiver - subs for lows and polks for mids and highs - works great -
I just have to say - the sound quality is so far and above what I had - I am sad I waited so long to get this player - I ran a couple of DVDs and the picture is also so much cleaner and brighter - is like having a whole new DVD collection. The customer service has been great - Thank You
