Bring on the digital
Toshiba's DR570 DVD recorder serves up the functionality of multiple A/V components in one compact unit. Not only does the DR570 record video from multiple sources to DVD, and upconvert standard-definition DVD video to near-HD levels for optimal viewing on your HDTV, but it also sports built-in digital and analog tuners. Integrated NTSC, ATSC, and QAM tuners both allow you to receive digital over-the-air content without a separate DTV converter box — just hook your digital antenna to the DR570 — and to operate the DR570 independent of your TV. You can record TV programming to DVD and still watch another program the TV! The advanced video performance of a DVD recorder and HD video converter and the versatility of multiple digital video components. The DR570 from Toshiba.
Ready . . . Set . . . Record!
It's time to make video work for your lifestyle. With the DR570 DVD player/recorder from Toshiba, you have a powerful tool for recording video to DVD, whether its your favorite TV program, or your family's home videos. Let's say you've got dinner plans, but don't want to miss this week's episode of your favorite show. Simply hook your satellite box up to the DR570's component-video or S-video inputs, set the timer, and you're ready to record. If you're looking to preserve home videos, you can either use the same video inputs to connect your VHS player, or the front DV input to connect your video camera directly to the DR570. This Toshiba DVD recorder records to a variety of DVD formats for optimal versatility.
DVD with a kick
When you buy a standard DVD player, you get a standard DVD picture. But now that you've invested in a high definition TV, you want a DVD picture that does your HDTV justice. Enter the DR570 from Toshiba. Combining its HDMI output with DVD video upconversion to 1080p, the DR570 enhances the video on all your favorite DVDs to near-HD levels for a dramatically improved video experience. Further enhancing your home theater experience are the DR570's advanced video and audio digital-to-analog conversion processors.

Very pleased with this recorder. Has everything I wanted and more. The digital tuner makes it so easy to use plus theres the convience of not having to connect a converter box. I do not have cable or dish so this aspect was an additional bonus for me. The instruction manual which comes with the recorder is very easy to understand and makes programming a breeze. I have already recommended this product to some of my friends and family.

After using a satellite receiverDVR for several years I got frustrated not being able to record to DVDs, so decided to try the Toshiba DR 570. Vanns had a good price and it arrived by ground UPS within a week and was very easy to connect. Ive been using it several weeks and am very pleased with its performance and quality. Im able to record live satellite TV and edit out the commercials, which saves about 33 per cent of disc space. Now I can share some shows with friends who dont receive them. This unit plays a variety of DVDs, CDs and handles MP3, WMA, JPEG and DivX files. Some other nice features include one-touch timer recording, connectability to a surround sound system or virtual surround sound system, internal tuner and intuitive, user-friendly on screen menus. Negatives? None that I can think of, so I would readily recommend this Toshiba DVD recorderplayer.

Early use is wonderful, this may be the best DVD recorder Ive had of 3, but that will depend on how long it lasts. Much better $ value than 15 year ago. One feature is a bit cheezy Rec function with DVDRW discs will not let you re-gain previously recordered space it does officially record but is really expensive, since ultimately it wastes discs! Work around is to use DVD-RW, all good so far.

Its been 4 months that I've had this recorder and I am very pleased with it. The picture quality is excellent, and very good even on the slowest speed. Setup was easy and delivery fast. The quality of the machine itself is solid, not flimsy or cheaply built. I'm not a technical person so cannot comment in depth on those aspects of this DVR. Sorry. The one disappointment I have with it is that the built-n tuners do not pick up very many channels 1 to 20 with just Comcasts cable plugged directly into it. But, with the digital box it gets every channel its supposed to get. I really wish it picked up more channels without having to use the digital box because you can only record the channel to which you set the box. So, Im using it without the box because most of what I really need to record is on the few channels that I get with just the cable. However I would still highly recommend this DVR to family, friends and to you!

This recorder does a fine job for me and was relatively painless to set up ,I am old tech-old school-over 50. I hooked it up with a cable splitter rather than using cable box so I can watch another channel while recording. This does limit my choices a little -no cable box-no scrambled channels- but so far that is only one channel . Picture&sound quality is very satisfactory with many possible options if you want to experiment. Having all the types of tuners built in covers all the bases of what the cable delivers and I can revert to antenna use if I want or need to escape the cable fee. So far I am pleased with it and pleased with no monthly fee for a DVR!

Bought this after reading all the positive reviews from other users and have been extremely pleased with it. The remote wasnt nearly as bad as I expected from all the negative comments from other users, and you are mostly using only a few of the buttons on a regular basis and pretty easy to remember where they are. I bought this to replace a funky VCR, hooked into my system in exactly the same way - I get cable and tune it directly with my TV and VCR, no cable box - and everything worked right from the get-go. Manual is complete and easy to find what Im looking for, guided me through all questions about connecting, recording, playing back, editing. Very pleased. This unit replaced both my VCR and my previous DVD player, plus it plays CDs as well! Great product. I did buy an extended warranty for it, something I usually dont do, because of the reviews I read of this unit tending to not last more than a year or so.

I receive my TV signal over the air. Because I live near a big city, my reception--especially programs broadcast in HD--is crystal clear. I hooked up the Toshiba DR570 with an HDMI cable, and the quality of my TV picture immediately suffered. So I played a DVD, and the quality of the picture was worse than that of my previous DVD player a $30 unit that I bought from Wal-Mart. I was on the phone three times with Toshiba. The staff were courteous, but they tried to give me some story that the Toshiba unit was trying to upconvert as if thats supposed to make me feel better about watching a poorer quality picture. They told me that it might be a defective unit and that I could ship it to them at my own expense. But after some questioning, the Toshiba agent finally admitted to me that the DR570 will diminish the quality of the TV picture even when it is working perfectly. So I cut my losses and returned it to the seller. Kudos to Vanns for taking it back with no questions asked.

I got this DVD recorder to replace a Panasonic DMR-ES15. The Panasonic DVR had excellent recording features and Im sad to report the Toshiba recording menus and options are very poor in comparison. The Toshiba does not allow you to choose a movie frame for the DVD top menu. You also dont have the option to start the finalized DVD when inserted or go to top menu. At least it will let you rename the title, but it wont let you store a name that you use frequently. You also cant name your title before recording.
Vanns offered to trade this one back for a Panasonic, but Im going to see if this Toshiba lasts longer.
The quality of the recorder seems good. My other recorder lasted about 2-12 yrs and recorded about 400 discs. Time will tell. But Ill probably only own Panasonic DVD recorders after this one.
I rate this one HIGH because it meets my needs. And I strongly suggest you try out the menu recording on any unit before you buy one.

This DVR does a very good job of recording and playing back DVDs made from regular digital cable TV signals over a regular cable set-top box, and provides great value for the purchase price. Be forewarned, however, that it will NOT record or play back any programming, either regular digital or high-definition, from a high-definition TV HDTV cable box. More specifically, it appears to record either regular digital or HDTV programming from an HDTV cable box O.K. but will not play it back--instead posting an error message on the TV screen that the picture is blocked. This, ol course, is not the fault of the DVR, but the fact should be made absolutely clear in the products advertising description.
One, no two, other observations, small criticisms. 1 The DVRs remote control has minuscule buttons that are dimly labeled with tiny tan print that is hard to read against the controls charcoal gray background. 2 The user manual is highly elaborate, reflecting the DVRs sophistication, but contains many function names and abbreviations that are hard for non-techies such as me to understand. The technical verbiage can obscure the simple everyday DVR functions that probably most users are trying to discern.

Ive had this recorder since July and would recommend it in a heartbeat! From the Clear QAM tuner digital cable which is excellent to the recording capabilities. You can record and playback on most dvd players without a hitch. I would recommend buying some dvd rewritables disks however, you can erase what you dont want, rather than have a large stack of recorded shows sitting in your livingroom collecting dust. Most rewritables after you finalize the dvd will play on most dvd players. Clarity from the tuner to the recordings were all excellent!!!
