What a difference the Toshiba XDE500 makes when an older DVD movie is viewed on my 42” 1080p display! My old Sony DVD player used about half of the screen and looked muddy and is much more cumbersome to use. Now the screen is clear and bright and looks to me like true HD. The complete screen is used with the older “standard” view size movie and a “wide screen” size DVD movie has bars only on the top and bottom and with the picture fully across the horizontal screen. The display reports that 1080p is being used in both cases. It takes less than 10 seconds to load a movie on this HD player compared to around 3 minutes for Blue-Ray players.The Toshiba XDE500 is also less than one-third as expensive as the Blue-Ray player. Going HD, at this time, is a no brainer. I hope DVD makers will continue to market the HD type movies. By the way, I’m am completely happy with Vann’s and will continue purchasing products from them.
